Herschel Walker: One Meal a Day, 750 to 1,500 push-ups/ 2,000 sit-ups.

@BigDaddyBuk: I'm interested in knowing how you got around to da point to where you can do 600 push-ups a day or 200 push-ups a hour. I slacked off big time in regards to workin' out & I'm finna get back in da gym to be in tip top shape so by da time I finally enlist in da Navy I'll be good. Especially seein' as how da PST for da rating that I'm interested in is a bitch and da training is as intense as intense can get it I get da contract (which I have every intention on getting when I enlist). It's cardio that I need to work on more than anything else though.

i started doing 10 push ups, resting three minutes, then doing ten more. at that time i could only do about 3 sets of ten before i just got tuckered out, but i would continue to do as many as i could, 3, 4 or 5 push ups until i reached total failure. after a week or two i could do about 5 sets of ten with 3 minutes of rest between each set.

well, a few months later i could do 20 push ups per set, rest 6 minutes, then do 20 more. i could do that for 10 sets, which gives you the ability to do 200 push ups in an hour. later i added more, until i was doing it twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, doing 30 reps per set for 10 sets.

somebody that hasnt been working out might not even be able to do 20+10.

shit i took months off and im surprised at how bad i fell off. didnt put on alot of weight or anything but upperbody strength just fell way off after i stopped fucking with the pullup bar every day.
 
Tuesday and Thursday I do 2 Mile run, 50 diamond push ups, 50 military push ups as well as Ab work in the gym for 2 hours. Then 1 hour of aerobics and 1 hour of pilates all back to back. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday its 2 Mile run, push ups, sit ups, and Ab work for 2 hours or more. Breakfast is plain oatmeal and a banana or a banana and two oranges. Through the day it's fruit and tuna. Dinner baked or grilled chicken.

The seemingly excessive number (200+ push-ups - 500+ sit ups) really isn't that hard to reach. Let's take for example you have a day off and nothing to do with it. Now I play Xbox/Ps3 some when I have a free half hr before everything else that needs doing. Take for example you play Black Ops. Inbetween matches you have roughly 50 seconds. Imagine if you get down and do push-ups until the next map launches, you could realistically knock down like 25-30 during that time. Multiply that with the four games you might sneak in and you have 100-120 push ups easy. Now if you alternate that between push-ups and sit-ups you could have like 50-60 push-ups and 60-75 crunches done in merely a half hr. Now if a man who is a professional athlete who is dedicated to his craft claims those numbers - I believe it. Any one of us here can do - let's say half - of those numbers.

200-300 push-ups is alot different than 750 to 1,500 push-ups.

However on the nutrition angle, there is lots of conflicting information, some of which is counterintuitive.

Furthermore there is no approach that fits everybody. So for any author to claim that their way is the "right" way is highly disingenuous.

Furthermore what may work at one phase of your fitness will not work at another.

Be willing to try things, try to quantify what worked for you and try to refine it and also be prepared to throw it out if it stops giving you results after a while.

Be sensible. Some people will tell you veganism is the way, some will tell you atkins, some will tell you dont eat this, dont eat that. Just use caution.

Some of the people who write "health" articles have agendas other than fitness.

Stay active and be sensible.

I'm sure that he can. Herschel was on this push up/sit up regimen way back before entering the NFL.
I (before my back injury) would do 250 push ups per day easily and won a lot of bets by doing so at the drop of a dime so for someone like him who never quit i'm sure that it's easy.

200-300 push-ups is alot different than 750 to 1,500 push-ups.

there's no doubt he worked himself up to that amount... for perspective, the late, great Jack Lalanne set a world record 1033 push-ups in 23 minutes :itsawrap:... no reason to not believe an athlete couldnt do 1500 a day.

Word fam. Because I do game when not doing things I bust out some dips on the sofa and those push-ups/crunches while playing. Some dudes claim to be too busy to make it to a gym. That is fair and sometimes even true. But while doing something recreational and some might view as non-productive such as gaming or watching tv, just get some calisthenics in. Do pushups/crunches until failure during commercial breaks or that Black Ops example I gave, trust you will see defintion in your body almost for free and without much effort. Spring and Summer are months away - get on it!

One Meal A Day

1 Eat one meal a day or one meal every other day, and it will prolong your life. Do not think that you will starve. On the contrary. you will be treating yourself to life, and a life filled with sickless days. You can hardly get sick eating this way. I know because I have this experience. If you eat the proper food -- which I have given to you from Allah (in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad to Whom be praise forever) in this book-- you will hardly ever have a headache.

2 In eating once a day or once every other day, you must not eat between meals. And, you should try to eat at the same hour tomorrow as you eat today. Do not change your meal hours if you can help it. That causes your stomach to react to various hours of the day for a meal, and will set up gas on the stomach. Do not even drink juices, milk, or soft drinks between meals.

3 And, do not eat candies or fruits between meals. You are welcome to drink water, but I know you will not want too much water between meals since your stomach will not call for it. You may drink coffee between meals, but do not fill your cup with half sugar and half cream and pour coffee on top of that. (smile) This (that I am trying to teach you) is the way that He (Almighty Allah) has taught me for you. I have given to you in this book the type of food that you should eat as Allah has given it to me.

4 Again I say, many vegetables are good to eat; also many fruits. But the vegetables you have been warned against eating such as collard greens, turnip salads, black -eyed peas, field peas, lima beans, butter beans and soy beans - Should not be eaten. Be sure that you do not eat the large size navy bean, eat the small size navy bean.

5 Surely Sugar diabetes can be controlled and driven out with your abstinence from eating sugar and Starchy foods. And, with your corrected way of eating once a day or once every other day (if started in time), you will become negative of Sugar in your blood. If you are a victim of sugar diabetes, you should not eat white or sweet potatoes. And even if you are not a victim of diabetes, you should not eat too much of any starchy food (such as potatoes), and positively no sweet potatoes. You Should be careful of eating this type of food.

Eat one good meal of food a day for good health. One meal a day or every two days could spell the end of much medicine, doctor bills and the building of hospitals if we would eat the proper food and eat it only when it is necessary to eat it.

There are a lot of people who think their appetite is their god; but we, by nature, have been made to control ourselves if we want to. I have much self-experience in the way of eating. I am often experimenting as I teach you, so that I will know what happens if you go contrary to the Teachings of “How To Eat To Live.” Eat one meal a day and eat the proper food in that meal, and do not eat between meals (a little of this and a little of that). I repeat, you will not be sick (only once in a great long time).

Every meal that we put in our bodies has some poison in it. And some of our food, as I have said in this book, takes 36 hours to digest. If we do not wait until our previous meal has been digested and add a new meal to the previous meal, we have new poison in its full strength to aid the dying poison of the previous meal or to help it to revive in strength; and we will continue to be sick.

This, I have experienced. I suffered sickness a lot of times through experimenting, so that you will not come and give me the wrong answer to the Teachings of “How To Eat To Live.” I have self-experimented. I will know whether you are telling me the truth or not. But, I will put my life on it; that if you make a habit of eating one meal every day or every two days and of eating the right food, you will not be sick (only one day out of the year or out of every two years); and some of the complaints that you have now will completely disappear.

By eating one meal a day, some chronic diseases will vanish in a few years as they fail to get the poison that will keep them alive. Sometimes, they vanish within a few months, if you eat the right foods and eat only one meal a day or every two days. Try it for yourselves.

So how would I go about being lean and healthy with out looking cracked out. Since Ive gone to mainly eatin fish and salads and working out 4 times a week Ive dropped from 198 to 168 in 8 mos. with 15% bodyfat. I want to be at 10% Body fat and 178-180LBS

Just got done with my 3 hour workout. 2 mile run, squats/bench press combo, military push up, diamond push ups, sit ups, crunches high knees, dive bombers, and aerobics. I feel great.
 
Only thing that gets me is how he maintains that weight with only one meal. Closest thing I have seen to this is the warrior diet that you can only eat for 2 hrs in the evening.

I also dont see how he gets all that development upper body with only push ups. Not saying its not possible but he has excellent shoulder development and without some type of handstand pushups I dont see how that can be attained. But of course I dont know everything so could someone enlighten me. Glad he is healthy and in shape.
 
I did my usual 100 this morning....read this thread and just knocked a 100 more...thread just inspired me to see if i can do 300 hundred a day..any of yall still on the perfect pushup??
 
Here is how it breaks down:

Does not train with free-weights

Uses bodyweight exercises, calisthenics, and conditioning, as well as martial arts training

Performs 750-1,000 push-ups daily

2,000+ sit-ups daily

Skips breakfast

Trains for martial arts which includes wrestling, kickboxing, sparring and jujitsu

Dinner is the only meal consumed which consists of salad, soup, and bread

He is a vegetarian

Sleeps four hours a night

I know that everyones body is different and everyones body is capable of adpating..but look at his body and read his regimie and please explian it to me cause i dont get and i also think he's lying about some things.



i remember back in the days while he was playing football .he mainly focused on pushups or at least it was part of his discipline. i believe he was doing like 500 and situps too or more. one meal a day well
1.he is older so slower metablolism
2. when your body does not get food mush. your body programs itself to store fat or some shit like that. someone can better explain this. anyways its believable given his track record in maintaining his shape.

well like i said i was meditating everyday while doing this....the main reason i started in the first place was because you develop quicker spiritually by fasting...i reached a plateau in my meditation practice and decided that doing it everyday wasnt needed anymore...now i just do it once or twice a week

I water fasted once a month last year for a while ... feels good but after a while the feeling wore off ... same thing with meditation ... it just turns into another thing on my to do list

50/75/100 a clip whenever I want to as have been doing pushups since the 90s since on line
wide, fists, fingertips, tight side grip, diamonds, whatever; back then, had an older Bruh bust out 100 straight right in front of us just showing off his focus, so always put that mindset to work when doing em - in the bathroom, while cooking, feet elevated off of the bed, elevated up on a wall on some 60/70or so degrees shit for a few for upper chest, dive downs off of steps, whatever;

becomes a stamina & discipline thing of course to move up;
busted out 75 as waiting for some eggs to finish boiling;
I want to know what he uses to brace his feet as need like a perfect push up bar to brace so can get that slow burn & control in the situps;

& fuck a pull up bar, need a mofucking indoor, portable type scaffold type bar like they have all over NY during construction so can pull up to the waist for that full range of motion $ getting.

Maintain a +/- 200 lb frame over the last 20 yrs doing so;
Get Busy, Y'all & Do what works for You the best!
The only contest u should have is against oneself, based on how You live.

Push ups will get you ripped. To the cat who said it's unbelievable to do 700 push ups a day, trust me it can be done. I used to do 500 push ups a day with ease and plus I went to the the gym. Man I was in the best physical shape of my life. I have friends who were locked up and they told me they would do over a 1000 push ups a day. Both these cats were skinny as hell and they came out with more mass but ripped at the same time.

I think I'm going to get back on the push up regiment and stop fucking with the weights at the gym. You will definitely see results in your upper body.
