Here's the story that isn't in the media.... their protest got the interim head coach fired yesterday. They still should've shown up to take the bus to the JSU game, especially since it's their homecoming :smh:

The players are angry for several reasons. It's time the whole story came out.

Doug Williams going 0-2 is not the reason Doug was fired. It was a scapegoat, but not the main reason

Doug was getting improvements done to the football facilities through donations and sponsors. Dr. Pogue was furious b/c it wasn't

going through the Black & Gold Foundation. He wanted all donations and sponsors to donate to B&GF and then do the improvements.

This made no sense since the sponsors and donors were ready to install new equipment into the facilities. Doug instead told sponsors not ...

to worry about it for now. Pogue fired Doug for "insubordination", and Doug has too much class to bash Grambling in the media.

The players were pissed of course, but decided to keep playing under Coach Ragsdale. Ragsdale is NOT the greatest coach BTW.

Moving forward, during a home game, Ragsdale and an assistant coach nearly got into a fistfight on the sidelines, demoralizing the team.

The players kept playing though, pushing forward. But, they grew tired. Mold, mildew, and a caving ceiling was angering them further.

After five weeks of waiting for a meeting with the president -- which the coaches postponed, they finally got a meeting with him.

Instead of it being a positive one, the administration and coaches pretty much put the blame all on the players -- or used wording that

insinuated the players had given up. This led to a walkout of the meeting, but not a boycott of playing football.

The players reported to Wed. weight training, and a player decided to voice his frustration to everyone there -- including the coaches.

Coach Ragsdale kicked him off the team, making it the straw that broke the camel's back. They told him if he goes, we go.

Ragsdale told the players, "Get the f--- out then!" They left and thus began the boycott. The players skipped practice and unified.

Now, Ragsdale is out of a job and a new coach is in charge. A game is slated to be played, but it's still a touch situation.

I just saw on a scroll going across the TV, is that the game is cancelled.

Right that's because Grambling players didn't show up for a walkthrough to prep for the game or the bus to JSU. Be interesting if JSU sues Grambling because that's alot of money to lose out on for homecoming

True, very true.. this is interesting

If they sue Grambling they'll just be practicing. They don't have money for teachers, let a lone lawsuits.

this is history fellas. hopefully more student athletes realize the power they have. hbcu been taking these trips for years to play elsewhere against powerhouses or places where hbcus are nonexistant. getting 500k for their school when most of these dudes are on partial scholarships and playing strictly for the love of the game. reading that 160 miles is the distance for the trip to jackson like it's about this trip. gtfoh. no it's about more than that. sucks that gsu really is caught between a rock and a hard place cause most hbcus are struggling across in board budget wise. hard to imagine this turning out well for the university.

Word. At least they did it together. I wonder will player lose scholarships behind this?

We almost pulled this move at WSSU but since I was a walk on players was like "shut yo walk on ass up and sit at the end of the bench."

*holds head down in embarrassment cause that's what I did*

I needed the meal money and groupie bitches. Don't judge me. I was just 18 years old

From the Sports Illustrated expose:

Grambling now buses to games as far away as Kansas City and Indianapolis, 650 and 750 miles away from campus, respectively. For the latter of those trips, the team left campus at 6 p.m. on a Thursday night and did not arrive in Indianapolis until 9 a.m. on Friday. Not surprisingly, the players appeared unprepared and listless in a 48-0 loss to Alcorn State. "It does something to your body, being on the bus that long," Smith says. "We were kinda upset other team got a chance to fly there. It wasn't fair."

Yeah, but that is what my HBCU did to. AD is not trying to get out money for plan tickets. Dude be cramped up on the bus. I hated that shit with a passion.

That's bad enough, but no food either?! Damn, they couldn't at least bag a Spam sammich, a banana, and a lukewarm Capri Sun for a brother?! Not even a can of potted meat and a spork?! And then you want me to play football at a high level too?! :smh:

750 miles on a bus?...fuck is this?...the 50s:lol:

in more ways than one yes, yes it is

fired the coach they liked,

fired another coach who was trash

bus to road games so not only do they have to be on that bus for hundreds of miles round trip they also have to miss more classes than the average school cause that ass gotta be on the bus 3 days in advance and shit

weight room is the same one doug williams practiced in when he was a player there.

professors are asked to teach additional courses FOR FREE.

i support these dudes 100%

we came here and this is what you do?

And they ain't sleeping comfortably either.

Its take a lot of mental toughness and togetherness to overcome all those obstacles alone just to get your ass busted when it finally time to play:smh::lol:

I support this 100% as well, but I don't see much good out of it. If GSU's football program is what bring the money to the AD, then it could possible effect other sport across the board.

The biggest impact could have been from all the sport teams at GSU. It's not just the football team that deal with such fuckery. They are just the one to act on it, but majority of HBCU sports program generate most of their money from football.

They haven't really made any renovations to the weight room etc since I graduated in 03 and my lil cuz says the HC is a real dick, so I totally agree with the decision....

I was going to feel bad for what I am about to write, but as I read more of the thread I figured I am around family, so what the hell.

One word: INTEGRATION.

Before you knee jerk post, just think about it. It is obvious when we are left to our own devices of the overall advancement of our people, segregation kept us where we needed to be from a community standpoint.

Whites made it so bad for blacks in the South that they had our minds think white was "right" or "might".

So 41 Division I schools receive multiple national championships, which includes Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Texas, Nebraska, and California to name a few, when they should have NONE.

If we got what we wanted, which was a true SEPARATE BUT EQUAL, in which we build our economy and they build their economy, your top sports program facilities like Oregon for example, would be replaced with an HBCU getting that sponsorship, those scholarships, tv contracts, player's rights, and a direct feeder system into the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

However, we got bamboozled, or bamboozled ourselves and HBCU's ain't been sh!t since...SINCE, when it comes to sports.

It is no GOT DAMN way all this black talent should be going to white schools, PERIOD. NO WAY! As much as I love football, it makes me sick every f*cking weekend to see all those black kids run for their life, in a sense, dribble for their life, in a sense...putting money into somebody ELSE's community!

I wish, GOD, I wish that I could mount a grassroots, social networking campaign to get top black recruits to go to HBCU's and let the signing days, the practices, the play, the sponsorship, and the tv contracts build the HBCU's out of obscurity, because education alone ain't gon' bring enough prestige.

I know I'm dreamin', but you gotta start at the root. Ultimately, integration i.e. lack of resources, is why those boys did not catch the bus and the overall shittiness of HBCU's just happened to culminate at this HBCU under this president, under this head coach, and under this team.

I feel you man, but it's tough to compete against other schools that gives the kids a higher level of exposure and marketing.

At this point is going to take a HUGE sense of black pride for a blue chip player to want to go play at a HBCU.

It's almost like our fight for equality was a gift and a curse. We want to have the same rights as whites, but at the expense of losing our best athletic players to their schools.

I feel you both. Ryan Stewart wanted to go to SCSU, but he said that they couldn't compete with the facilities at Ga. Tech.

agreed at the integration aspect.
the kool aid says you have to go to these white schools to make it to the pro's that's bullshit. grambling itself has over 100 nfl alumni

but the parents have to tell these kids to go to these schools and the parents aren't really trying to hear all of that

Yes, but the Classic organizers alloted money for Grambling to fly to Indianapolis instead of grinding 15 hours (each way) on a bus. The President of Grambling admits that he took that budgeted money, rented buses, and kept the rest to spend elsewhere. Yet he flew himself and his entire personal entourage to the game. Alcorn got the same payout and they flew - read the SI article I linked earlier.

yea but that's because of the cycle

they got what 30 years of making money off of black athletes to build that up.. and nobody is going to change the tide

if the next 4 classes of athletes which are going to be majority black went to hbcu schools

by the time the 4th class graduated they would have facilities comparable to anybody in the country
