Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke
Fine!
If you think I'm bullshitting you, then ask someone that grew up in Atlanta in the 70s & 80s, ask them did Atlanta have Street Gangs like they do now, I can guarantee you that Atlanta DID NOT have a "Gang Problem" UNTIL GANGSTA RAP went Nationwide starting in the late 80s to early 90s.
And there was very little YOUNG (16-26) Black on Black Murder back in the 70s & 80s in Atlanta, ATLANTA was nothing like LA, DC, Philly, Detroit, New York; Atlanta had a very "Cosmopolitan/suburban feel" to it, even though you had your poor Areas, it was nothing like poor areas in those places I listed above. Atlanta had a real clean, middle class "vibe" that a lot of Big Cities didn't have back then.
Historically, Atlanta was one of the few Southern cities that didn't have race riots and violent confrontations like other Southern Cities, so by the time the 70s hit, Atlanta was one of the few Southern Cities that had a good reputation, and because of that a lot of Fortune 500 Companies chose Atlanta as the place for their Regional/SE Operations and the resulting job market created a lot of opportunities for BOTH Blacks & Whites, combine that with the AUC and the density of Black Colleges in the South that are driving distance to Atlanta, made the city a destination for Educated Blacks, the kind that don't commit stupid ass crimes.
That what made Atlanta what it was for Blacks after the Civil Rights movements of the 60s; Atlanta has never been like those other Cities for Blacks for those reasons, UNTIL RECENTLY, this new generation of Ni66as has fucked up my city horribly. Almost all the folks I grew with in SW Atl, now live out in Cobb Co. or Fayette Co, or Gwinnett Co., hoping that the "transplanted thugs" from other places don't find them.
I'm not the only person from Atl that will tell you this.
well i guess ATL and LA just traded murder stats then.
cuz while shit was peachy (no pun intended) over in atlanta in the 80s,
young black males were getting killed in an ALARMING rate on LA.
the years from 86-89 were the absolute fuckin worst.
the mixture of gangbangers and the drug trade was when LA went staight to hell in a handbasket.
i know first hand,
cuz thats when my moms shipped me down south so i wouldnt get killed in some senseless bullshit like ALOT of my friends did.
and white suburbia wasnt safe either.
gang killings where happening in places like westwood and beverly hills damn near every weekend.
that dope money brought gangstas out the hood,
so they can come to whiteytown and act a fool up there too.
that could be why the murder game in ATL has increased.
the 2nd generation of knuckleheads who defected from LA and NY
are down there been doin their best to be as ni99erish as
possible.
