"Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Keys

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Gangsta rap is complete bullshit. It is some white sociopaths invention and sadly a lot of our people STILL buyin into the bullshit. The image is so powerful that it had half of you muh fuckas expecting us to be killin and fightin each other at the Million Man March .....well did we???:smh: No we didn't but some of us clearly are, and are the unwitting puppets of those who would like to destroy us. YT knows that art has the power to subliminally implant images and ideas into peoples minds. Only the ignorant believe that humans can watch hours upon hours of violent video games and listen to gansta rap and not have that shit twist yo fuckin wig. Muh fuckas can recite some bullshit gansta shit but don't know who Malcolm X is. And you think that shit is not by design?? gansta rap don't represent a reality any more then it creates that reality. It is the mill in which the fodder is made to allow 1 in 9 of us between 18-34 to be locked away in the dungeons of amerikkka. AN ENTIRE CULTURE has been manufactured for us through this bullshit - a twisted culture of death, hatred, violence, poverty, hopelessness and ignorance. fuck all these so called black record "moguls" who sold their companies, their souls and our children down the river for a dollar. fuck'em. bitches walkin around pushin some faggoty argyle clothes made in Taiwan.

For an oppressed people Art is a means of liberation not a way to make a dollar.

As for Alicia Keys....love that sistar.:yes:

Preach!!

c/s

A lot of the the younger, and or less observant folks fail to see or remember. The change wasn't gradual from socially conscious jams to hard core "just kill that ni$&^$" songs, it was abrupt! Same folks supplied & encouraged people like Rick Ross (the real guy), supplied and encouraged cripin' bloodin' and the music to dry by.

One day the whole hood was bumping EPMD (which was considered hard at the time) the next, NWA (Huge difference!!). It was an about face. Face it they got a whole generation cosigning random violence, and defending stupid behavior.

Read Monster, I read it in 1995 pretty much clarified for me what the architects were attempting to do to the community throughout the rest of the country. I think Alicia got ballz of steel for saying this.

Absolutely.

The point that jumps out at me is how quickly everyone is eager to point out that inner city violence has existed prior to gangsta rap's existence. I don't believe that is part of the argument. Rather it is suggesting rightly that the social instability that was already in place may have been supplemented by a mutually exclusive but correlated cultural stimulus. Gangs and drugs have always had a presence but to argue the explosive increases in the late 70's-mid 80's as a factor of chance or in a word "dumb n*ggas' own mistakes" only plays into the mindset that we deserve the attributed misery since we so obviously created and maintain it. As previously mentioned a lot of the turmoil of the 80's was the backlash of the attack on the black solidarity of the 70's (brilliantly exposed on HBO's "Bastards of the Party). If you want to commit arson on a structure that is already a fire hazard it doesn't take much creativity to introduce elements that can produce "relatively" spontaneous combustion. So many of you who are programmed to think one dimensionally fail to realize that white folks have been socially engineering us in this country likely before slavery. So for some of us if we don't see a match and gas can we look elsewhere....usually inwards.

"The game they're running on you they developed on your daddy and me. Y'all are just the next phase."

Props to Ms. Keys. Not many mainstream artists will even attempt to address the issue and when they do are often dismissed as immature and personally ridiculed as shown here. Such a shame.

half black/white bitches/niggas always talk like this. I knew I was gonna see when I saw her selection of only DARK ASS niggas to date/fuck with. what the fuck did you think was going to happen??????

Whats this supposed to mean you color struck coon.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Reading it again, you're actually right.

Just Ice was calling himself the gangsta of rap back in the mid 80's however. It wasn't an invented term and something they just gave us. I don't think gangsta rap was created for us to kill ourselves, we were doing that before. The government didn't force Scarface in to black households. It was used in a way they could profit from it, either through magazine ads or record sales. Sort of how we use pitbulls. You like to fight, well let me make some money off it.

The AK-47 shit was bullshit :dunno:
Killing the next black leader. I assume that was Tupac :dunno: I think young black people make make him more of a martyr than he really was. I don't think he was on the governments radar. :smh:

LOL!

I got to agree with you on Tupac.
Before that dude died he was a silly little dancing rapper. Running around in his boxers jumping over tennis court nets.

The AK for many symboilizes anti American establishment. When 3rd world countries would fight against the US, they could only get weapons for the soviets.

At the end of the day though, I dont think an intelligent person should wear a gun around their neck, in my opinion.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

This is what happens when you read 1 or 2 books... A little knowledge can be VERY dangerous... If she is going to pretend to understand the history of violence in America, she must start from the beginning, before she can credibly start quoting facts.

Actually, her statements make her sound kinda "Forest Gumpish"...STUPID! :smh::smh::smh:

I'd still HIT IT!!!! :yes::yes::yes:

as ignorant as this might sound to some. what he is saying is actually true. i was about to come here and say that what she said was typical type of stuff that a bi-racial person would say. bi-racial people seem like as if they always got to go the extra mile and say some off the wall wild conspiracy shit just to prove they blackness. barack is an exception

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Why is it that some bi-racial folk can be some of the most blindly militant people you could ever encounter?

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

bullshit..
niggas was killing each other long before N.W.A started rapping about it...
them niggas was only rapping about what was going on in cali..
at the time...

But they weren't killing each other as frequently and at as YOUNG AN AGE as they do in 2008.

Keys might not be 100% correct, but she ain't 100% wrong either.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Y'all so fulla shit. Right or wrong, she's sayin' this when she has the motivation to shut up and smile for the cameras.

Why do we as a people get mad soooo damn easy at each other? And half of y'all just dissin' her because she got a white mom. So who's the racist?

So you don't agree. Fuck it. I don't agree with a lot of shit people I respect say. Spike, Cosby, Chuck D. Respect the hell outta all of 'em but sometimes, you gotta look at what people say, disagree, and realize that the world will keep turnin'.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Because they got the most to prove. Like these suspect ninjas who love ackin' homophobic.

Bi Racial is a retarded ass backwards bullshit term. All black americans are Bi, Tri, and Quad Racial. In America Alicia Keyes is a BLACK WOMAN. Don't matter that her mom looks like the Stay Puft Marshmello. Don't nobody give a fuck about that. She's black. I've seen Niggas who have jet black parents come out lighter than Alicia Keys. I know just as many "Dark Skinned" blacks just as militant. What is it with you Color Struck Coons. As if the color of your skin justifies how much you can complain about. Fuckin simps. I guess Malcolm X should have shut the fuck up. COON ASS NIGGAS

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Props to her. She is doing this while her career is ACTIVE and her voice still MEANS SOMETHING. Unlike Mr. Cosby, who had a good point but hadn't been on the air in years. Hopefully she has banked enough to survive on just in case she gets black balled by the media in a similar way that they black balled the Dixie Chicks.

co-sign this is America and there is nothing wrong with her stating her oppinion on such a subject.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

I'm trippin that cats are really mad. granted yeah we have had issue before gangsta rap. But now because she speaks on it. She is lesser of a person.

Niggas in this thread are suspect.

I teach highschool in ATL. ANd i see lil cats striving to be steretypes.
Get mad at them, and/or their parents.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

I said the same thing on this and the political board 2 yrs ago. Compare Pac, BIG to Jay whose life would you want to live, what about the mindset. Gangsta rap caught on about the same time crack hit the streets. Been down hill ever since.

Re: "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other." - Alicia Ke

Please go look at the murder rates in Atlanta in the 80's.

Muthafucka I grew up in ATLANTA!

Other than the ATLANTA Child Murders, it was fucking UNHEARD OF for a Black TEEN to get killed in the 80s, MORE IMPORTANTLY you RARELY heard News Reports of one BLACK TEEN killing another Black TEEN, that shit is commonplace now in DeKalb & Clayton Counties.

Don't talk about shit you know nothing about, back in the 80's the METRO POPULATION of the ATL Area was around 1 Million to 1.5 Million people, now Atlanta is 5 Million to 5.5 Million people, so because the booming Population, of which many that live in the Burbs, makes it SEEM like the Murder Rate is much lower, but for Blacks, the Murder rate of YOUNG (16-26) BLACK-ON-BLACK MURDER is much higher than it was in the 80s.

well i guess ATL and LA just traded murder stats then.

cuz while shit was peachy (no pun intended) over in atlanta in the 80s,
young black males were getting killed in an ALARMING rate on LA.
the years from 86-89 were the absolute fuckin worst.
the mixture of gangbangers and the drug trade was when LA went staight to hell in a handbasket.
i know first hand,
cuz thats when my moms shipped me down south so i wouldnt get killed in some senseless bullshit like ALOT of my friends did.

and white suburbia wasnt safe either.
gang killings where happening in places like westwood and beverly hills damn near every weekend.
that dope money brought gangstas out the hood,
so they can come to whiteytown and act a fool up there too.

that could be why the murder game in ATL has increased.
the 2nd generation of knuckleheads who defected from LA and NY
are down there been doin their best to be as ni99erish as
possible. :smh:

nwa?

Them dudes was from middle class households, bordering on upper middle class except for maybe Ez

it was all an act.

dudes was/is entertainers talking about killing black people

not to argue with u homie,
cuz i do agree NWA was an act (and a very good one at that).
the fuckouttahere.
from the sound of it,
u are OBVIOUSLY not from LA.

cuz if u were,
u would know THERE ARE NO upper middle class neighborhoods in Compton,
black, white, or brown.
the only upper black middle class area in LA PERIOD is Baldwin, Windsor Hills, and View Park [which is STILL surrounded by the hood from every angle].
hell, even Ladera aint really black,
since its more populated by interracial families than anything.

we get it mayne. they werent hardcore gangstas.
but stop tryin to make them out to be like they were NSYNC or something. :smh:

Speak Truth To Power

that sheit wasn't truth. it was lack of understanding and history. 'gangsta' rap had nothing to do with killing each other on a national scale (originally). if u listen to it, it was talking about how poorer brothers were being taken advantage of on a regular basis

pREACH brotha, yep cost of living and low crime was the reason blacks looked at the A is a mecca.

When dream chasers AKA transplants moved from NY,LA,DETROIT etc with their gang culture is when we started to see a sudden increase in crime. ATL had their share of gangs but they were more like cliques.
