Gotcha! I sure will. Mainly I needed to understand where everyone was and what the characters had to do with each other. My main interests were:
1) How did Robert become King?
2) Who were Daenery's people?
2.1) How and why did they become exhiled?
2.2) how in the fuck were they in they in a hot dry area while it snowed in other places during the same time period? (this is why I needed a map)
3) What was the deal with the Night Walkers and where did they come from?
4) What was the Stark family story?
4.1) What's the story about the North (this is why I needed a map)
5) What are the family trees?
Wiki got me spun up on all of this to give me a concrete understanding and some more. Maybe a little too much
But I'm good now. I'm just gonna ride this out. There are some characters that I don't quite get yet but once the time comes, I'll ask.
1.Him and Ned rebel against the Mad King aka Daenerys Targaryen father. Her father was like Joffrey but alot worst..
2.Viserys Targaryen was the next person to take his father place but since Robert wanted to kill every single Targaryen,he had to flee to Essos...Dany was a baby(I think) when that happened....Keep in mind that the Targaryen had ruled for generations
4.?
4.1

Just a simple map but in the other Game of Thrones thread their is a better version of it the world.
5.The list is very long but you can check out this site

smoke knows alot more than I do since Im still in the second book but I hope this helps....
1, 2, 2.1 - Ned's sister, the love of Roberts life goes missing and is presumed to have been kidnapped by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. Robert then goes to war and the Targaryens are all killed (Jamie Lannister kills "Mad" King Aerys Targaryen - we'll learn why later) except for young Prince Viserys, his infant sister Daenerys, and Maester Aemon (of the Nights Watch).
2.2 - Westeros is a huge kingdom, and seasons don't change in the same manner there that they do in the real world. Seasons may last a few months to years and years. The North is frozen while the South is not.
3. - All we know about the Walkers and the Others is that they come from the North, beyond the wall. But think about this, the other's have the power of ice, while the dragons have the power of fire. I can see a serious battle coming.
And killing all of Robert's "bastards" isn't to eliminate their claim to the throne, it is to solidify Joffrey's claim. With Ned's letter to Stannis (the older brother of RENLY) telling him that all of Cersei's children are by Jamie and not Robert, and offering Robert's outside children as proof of this, Joffrey would lose the throne and Stannis would be named the next king.
And some may consider the following a SPOILER, so read @ your own risk:
Author George R.R. Martin was asked if he had a resolution or ending to the seemingly endless conflict. He replied that the end would be a cloud of dust or snow being driven by the wind across a vast graveyard full of tombstones.
Damn! That's one hell of an ending!
