G1 Owners Unite! The Official G1/Android Thread..News/Apps/Features All In Here

After rooting your phone and adding one of these new roms, when a new update comes out like 2.0, will you be able to get the over the air update or will you have to manually search and install it??
you will have to install it manually to get the 2.0 updates.. or say forget root and go with the OEM rom from Android/Google.
word..that's wat I want to know too. can anybody answer this?
manually
no the G1 goes End of Life in the fall no OTA's for to get 2.0 u'd need to get a new phone. Reason is the fall phones will be using either snapdragon or nvidia chipsets and 2.0 will work better. Thats y flash is coming in oct when the newer phones are out. Granted the Galaxy, the Hauwei and mytouch will all likely still work n get OTA's but the G1 won't.
the G1 will not see the end of any road.. the G1 can handle most of the new stuff that will be in the new update..
The G1 cant handle the Hero rom properly cause its made for another device..
if you have evidence of the 2.0 update not being to be supported by the G1, please post it... thats something new if u have it

android users we now have visual vm thats totally customizable. in the android market its called youmail

i should clarify.
tmobile which pushes out the OTA's won't push them for G1 users unless they decide to follow the apple approach but that falls on google.
now i'm sure google will make it so users can get it on the G1 but Tmo will only ota it to new models.
perhaps they will provide a manual link for G1 users.
If u look up the tmo walmart roadmap the G1 has an EOL next to it.
Edit here it is

Its like how some linus distros support an OS fully til the new OS comes out then it becomes a community thing.

Tmobile isnt responsible for the OTA update.. spoke to a rep a few months before the cupcake update was released, and asked if they knew when cupcake would be release, tmobile rep on the phone said its not up to tmobile to send out the OTA its google/android dev team to send it out.. Tmobile is basically just selling the device, and providing cell and data service..

I'm going to assume that this hero OS is not the EXACT same as the rom that we've been discussing in this thread, correct???

kinda sorta i would assume the official one from htc has more functional goodies in it.

What do you mean "functional goodies"?

Also, are any of you aware if the wifi and bluetooth issues in the previous Hero rom have been corrected.

Actually, tell me this. Which is the better rom, Rosie or Hero and what are the differences??

Sorry, I'm just on an android information binge right now.

I dig the Hero lol it has flash lol...

I have clue about the goodies I remember reading that the ported version was early and didnt have EVERYTHING htc has in Hero what those are I dunno...

I'm on a binge myself I'm considering downloading the android source code n building my own android n porting it to a phone...my coding skills r rusty but this might b fun...gotta get a book on android coding.

So can some one tell me which rom is the best with the least glitches right now. I'm partial to the Hero rombased on its look but is there something out there as sexy with no issues??

I guess this thread died already but one thing that niccuhs ddin't even mention one time in this joint is tethering.

Does anyone know if the G1 can tether? If so, how do you do it??

I really want to try an android phone... the HTC magic looks like the next new one to come out. Is T-mobile's data coverage really that bad? Price wise all of the carriers seem to have the same deal on data packages, but why pay if the system is noticeably sub par? I don't know how much longer I can hold out tho... my current phone is over 2 years old, and I have no idea when Verizon is going to have an Android phone.

It should be. call customer service. for some reason their real nice about help with that. they'll probably even tell how long you have to wait if you can't do it now.....................

How are you guys able to navigate through xda developer? I've been trying to find the most recent Hero ROM with Flash Player 10 and keep getting bullshit. This shit is just ridiculous.

Can I get some help??

My MAN Disavowed.

Since your attentive at right now, let me ask you some other questions. Questions mind you that I posted to xda but have not gotten an answer as of yet.

If I ROM my phone its going to downgrade me to the RC29 firm where. Does that Mean that I will have to or can upgrade to the 1.5 cupcake update to use the virtual keyboard or should that be addressed in the most recent ROM??

Also, I'm concerned with speed. Will saving apps to my sd card and increasing the processing speed on my phone be standard features that I can find in settings or will it be something that I will have to work for to get to??

Thanks in advance my dude.
