yeah mybackup pro is probably the best app to pay for out of all the ones on the market... especially if you flash roms all the time..

*never use it to backup contacts !!! gmail backs up contacts for you automatically.. if you back up contacts using mybackup pro and restore them, you can cause a conflict with gmail contacts and lose all of your contacts once it syncs online...

i agree My Backup Pro is the bomb! the only reason i was lookn for g-backup was because to me it's the best at syncing sms, and mms to my gmail account. I have all kinds of business text, that I like to save there, just for extra protection, just in case I need to bring it back up. But, when it comes to flashing different roms I love My Backup Pro, it not only brings back all sms, mms, but also call logs, and apps!

thanks playa! i did the beta Cyanogogen, it lagged off top, so i did a restore and said i'll wait til the bugs r fixed. If u insist on stickn with the beta, dl camera pro, that'll fix the camcorder issues. Thx for the myfavs, i saw a release for rooters but I like this contacts widget a lil better since i think i think it looks better, just something different i guess. I have the unlimited talk so myfavs isn't a big issue. I didn't know about the overclock widget, guess i'll try it out in the morning. I havent' found the g-back apk yet so yes i'm using My Backup Pro which is turning out fine. Every time I flash a new OS, I use My Backup Pro which is turning out fine. Wish I would've understood it 2 weeks ago. Every time I flash a new OS, I use it and it restores my sms, mms, and call logs. Zei if u need My backup pro, let me know I have it. Or if you need any other app. holla, i'll try and find it if i don't have it.

I appreciate the offer bro, but i acually went out and paid for it a while back...lol. But that contact widget you got would sure come in handy, i get sick of scrollin through my damn contacts all the time.

I normally keep my sync off just to save battery juice and manually update my gmail contacts from time to time.

CYANOGEN! Unless something has changed, bluetooth doesn't work in hero. cyanogen does allow bluetooth! i'm using cyanogen 4.0.4! I use camera pro but they have several different camera enhancement programs, i just don't use my cam to much but it's great to have. For volume, audiohack, it increases the volume on your speakers, bluetooth, and headsets!

Well now he's on 4.1.11.1 and he's about 1 more release from it being stable but its mostly done now. This version has the 1.6 donut software in it as well as the new marketplace. The speed is off the chain without the use of a overclocking widget/app. He's currently fixing the A2DP problem and it should be done with by now...but other than that...bottom line...shit is just off the fucking chain

DrizzyDrake is okay I guess. This is my 1st installed ROM so I don't have much to compare it to. I'm not sure if it has bluetooth, but my reception has turned to SHIT since installing it. I love the Hero OS, I just need a more stable ROM. I have heard little complains about Cyanogen. I think I'll install that in the morning.

And besides full multitouch, the market and a few tweaks he added on his own. Thats pretty much it. But then again i havent really had enough time to explore it all since i been so busy at work.

i thought it came with the cupcake update or possibly the phone. If not it's definitely in Cyanogen, but I do think it was available with the cupcake update. Go to edit contact, scroll all the way down and u should see it. It's a great tool, with google voice u can do that or set it to when certain people call, it'll tell them the number is disconnected!!!

G1s come with a 1 year warranty. Me and my roomate both have G1's. He called and said that his "S" button doesnt recognize sometimes. They walked him through a hard reset and whatnot, he still said it wasnt working. They mailed him a refurbed phone (Looks brand new though, no scratches, mew screen etc). I did the same thing with the same results. Ive had mine since it was 1st released last year, so it had been thru it. So now, instead of buying a new MyTouch, I got a new G1. Now I can hold out for another 6 months! Make sure to say that your button works SOMETIMES, that way they cant say youre lying when they get the phone back.

yeah tmo is real good! I called complaining about my 3g coverage and the girl was like, let's send u a replacement g1. They had already did the replacement thing twice when the phone first came out in 08. Replacements, new sim---non of that shyt fixed my 3g problem, so I declined this latest offer nearly a year later for a new g1, nothing wrong with this one. Ever since I rooted my 3g has improved a lot, don't know if it's new towers or better reception after rooting.......

I know several people who have got replacement g1's from tmobile only having to pay shipping. Tmobile has been excellent to me for over 2 years, i don't plan on going to any other carriers right now.

I was reluctant to make this post. Not because I have allegiances or loyalties, but because it is a touchy legal situation that I have only heard about… I don’t have first hand details. Before I write an article like this, where I really WANT to voice my opinion, I want to have my facts straight. There is nothing worse than going off on a huge rant only to find out that the very facts on which your arguments are based on… are flawed.

For the reasons outlined above, this is the objective, summarized version:

At this moment in time, Cyanogen is the #1 Android OS Modder on the planet. For people that “root” their phone, he is the hero that brings them the awesome stuff to install. If you’re wondering what the reasons are to root your phone, half of the reasons are so you can install stuff this guy builds (for free) for the community. He recently started a website to showcase his mods and help people install them with FAQ, videos, ROM updates, etc… It is at CyanogenMod.com.

Last night I got a tip from a reader, asking me urgently to please visit a petition thread on XDA-Devs about Cyanogen. The thread is directly associated with an article by Taylor Wimberly of AndroidAndMe that says Cyanogen received a Cease & Desist letter from Google, telling him he must stop distributing his custom ROMs because they include distribution of closed source apps like Android Market, GTalk, Gmail, YouTube and others.

I’m assuming Google has every right to do this and if they push, Cyanogen will legally be forced to obey their commands. But the real issue is… why is Google doing this? They have SO much more to lose than gain. You know that whole “Android is open” feeling the world has as we look down upon iPhoners? This could be the first step to eroding that mutual trust Google has built with the Android Community.

But let me stop here – I said I would withhold my opinion until more solid details were released. I can’t say I’m eager to get the details because to be honest, it doesn’t look good. I’m hoping Google’s legal team kind of slinks back and decides to shy away from the issue. Of course this is about much more than Google. This is about all of the members of the Open Handset Alliance. This is about the core values and foundation of Android.

By the way, the petition on XDA-Devs asked “Should Google leave Cyanogen alone?” and the results:

* Yes (97.58% with 1,091 votes)
* No (1.61% with 18 votes)
* Wait and see (.81% with 9 votes)

That last option wasn’t added until VERY late in the thread and you’re dealing with devs so there is an obvious bias. But aren’t these devs a big part of what make Android awesome? Just sayin…

Needless to say, I'm PISSED!!! Google is supposed to be open for all including developer. If nothing positive comes from this I may say "Fuck Google and Android" and go else where!!!

I have bought 4 smart phones in the past 3 years, they get old to me real quick, Before the g1 I had never had a smart phone for longer than a year. Me rooting the phone and going to Cyanogen is the only reason this will be my first smart phone that I held on to for a year.

I am upset by google's decision, it sucks, but from a business view I do understand. Cyanogen was releasing shyt that wasn't suppose to be released until 2010 on different phones, lol. Google's decision has scared Cyanogen and several others at xda. I don't blame him taking down his links and shyt, who wants to tussle with google's big time lawyers........ I do wish they can come to an agreement where he will be able to release roms with all the current google apps---u know an agreement where he just can't release unreleased google apps.

Today I flashed Cyanogen 4.1.11.1 so far it's running like a charm. The new Market is dope and fast, i know Cyanogen putting that out before google/tmobile pissed them off. As i said i've been dropping $300 and $400 on smart phones for the past 3 years. Cyanogen has kept me with the g1 for going on a year. Everytime I flash, I usually add some new apps, wallpaper and clean my phone to trick myself into thinking I just bought a new phone. That is sad, but I have an addiction to new phones. I hope the g1 party isn't over, hope Cyanogen comes back.

A few more apps I recommend

Sim Checker!!!!! i got it a week ago, forgot i had it, for some reason when i flashed today I got an email from simchecker, i opened it and it told me the exact address i was at, that's some crazy shyt. So if yor phone ever gets lost, stolen, or if somebody removes your sim card, u will be notified. I know they also have programs to shut the phone down, erase data, etc.....

atakephone is dope, it gives a new dialer look, call log is dope makes me think i'm lookn at cnbc or some shyt. Scrolln through your contacts is a lil weird caz half of the screen is takn up by the dialer. It also has 10 one touch spots for your favorites.

i'm using touchpal's virtual keyboard, I went into settings calibrated (it's like a 1 or 2 minute test) with my thumb, but i type with my index finger. I was thinking by doing the test with my thumb it'll give a lil more space. Anyways, i can now type fast with error using the virtual keyboard.

With Cyanogen 4.1.11.1 i'm using Enoch's Theme, I actually prefer Ted's Hero Theme better only because it has the applications button on the bottom of the home screen, in this theme there is no sign, u just slide your finger. Ted's hero theme doesn't work with Cyanogen 4.1.11.1

Well with Cyanogen we've been gettn updates every other week, let's see how things go, we need to keep each other posted on new updates and shyt. I didn't even know Cyanogen was under attack until i saw it on bgol. I don't check xda everyday. Anyways hope Cyanogen comes up with a master plan and isn't too shook, i wont blame him if he is, but hopefully he'll come up with something.

Pretty much. Google has no beef with Modders just don't use the closed apps...I'm pretty sure if modders create the blur theme b4 moto launches their phones they would get one from moto...hell they got one from palm for creating a web os theme.
Google likely doesn't give a fuck about google apps but its the info that comes from other sources that google has to cover.

Hell they released the ANDROID OS code so if you wanted to u could make ur own android and port it to a phone u want only problem is u won;t have google apps. Thats y the market has maps and other stuff. U could create a google phone without any google products and google wouldnt care.

folks need to relax on the fuck google and fuck android shit, the modder in question even agrees based on stuff i read u can mod just dont use google apps b/c they are closed and were never included in the OS code release.
