No story really, I've been in IT for many years, have a computer background. Quit the 9-5 IT Admin "career" about 5 yrs ago because I've been doing freelance graphic design and was very profitable in NY. But I fell into online marketing, cause have always heard of it, but never knew wtf it was really. So I found this site called Wealthy Affiliate and learned from them the foundation of doing stuff online. Then I fell into Black Hat type marketing. It's basically doing things considered immoral to make a quick buck online. "White Hat" is considered more ethical and long standing income.

I do every and anything I find basically, but for many months I was reading and reading, "acquiring" every guru's ebooks or courses. I will tell you guys, don't buy into those things. You can easily DL them or find them somewhere, and the majority of them are re-hashed info. They basically take someone's techniques about online marketing and reword an entire course and sell them and make a bag of money.

As for me I have had some stellar months making 7-8k and then some dismal making nothing, because I was doing alot of Black Hatting. I make the money for now, but never doing anything that would substantially sustain a long term. I'm more focusing on that.

I have had ebooks written on topics that I researched in specific niches and put them out there, but I'm not the greatest at SEO or the best at marketing. If I was I would be clearing a shitload of loot everyday. Some days I cleared $200, others did $800. It's not constant and it is something you have to really treat as a daily business. I get sidetracked because I have to still do design work as that is my main source of income until I can say this fully replaces my income.

One way i make money which I spoke of in other threads is CPA marketing. It means Cost Per Action. Basically where you see ads online or even on TV, the person promoting that product can be "me" or "you". You get people to sign up or purchase XYZ and you get paid. For some things anywhere from $1 to $150. On average some companies pay $20-25 a sale for something. You make 4 sales you're looking at $100. Multiply those efforts and make $200, $500, $1000.

But some of the guys I know have moved from making sales online to pushing the products offline. As in printing up flyers or newspaper ads for whatever it is.

Some of you may be like this is bull, it really isnt. What do you think Enzyte started from? That shit aint no wonder drug, but online marketing kicked it off, was just a simple "wonder" pill. No they reach more and more people thru tv ads.

You ever see those commercials for "fix your computer" or "Free Credit Report", ever see those numbers in the website? That's some internet guy that took out that ad promoting the company. When you click that link, he gets paid...

I started there as a foundation to learning. Like $360 a year. You can truly find alot of courses or instruction on how to do this online but that site is where I knew nothing and learned.

As for freelance design, I wouldnt suggest anyone dive into it. But I have been doing it for over 15yrs on the side. When I quit corporate america, I left it cause i was making multiples of my salary from home.

And which direction to take in online marketing, for now, my personal experience is CPA. But need to know its not because someone clicks and you get paid, its Cost Per Action cause someone buys or signs up after they click.

You can get people to sign up for a free offer or trial of something and get paid. Black Hatting is deceptively doing that.

I can give you an example in what's called e-whoring online. Where you say you're a chick online and get guys to sign up to "verify" with a credit card to a trial site like AdultFriendFinder. They will pay you anywhere from $50-$150 for a signup as an affiliate.

I don't do this kind of marketing but there are alot of techniques to doing online stuff. It's best you create ideas when you learn all about what it is. By time you read about a technique online, rest assured its saturated with many doing the exact same thing. Then the gullible person will be less willing to sign up if they see a few emails pitching basically the same thing over and over.

Some of the things I've done are free trials for diet pills, credit reports, skin creams, bank accounts, money loans, acai. I could go on and on. The point is to find a niche that is hot and that people are looking for. My biggest mistake in the beginning is putting out what I thought was missing in the market or online. If people arent searching for XYZ then no one's gonna find what you wanna promote.

Its simple business, give people what they want and are looking for, not what you think they need...

I am now in the process of setting up my forum but I have a few questions about the forum process. I want to do a lifestyle forum geared towards younger men & women (in their 20's to 30's) that covers a variety of topics such as dating to finances. Example would be like ask men.com or something to that nature. Do you think that this will be profitable??

And if I do create this forum, I know I will need to hire posters to start posting. Can you refer me to some posters who post for cheap?

1) Your question is very good because it raises the issue of SPECIFICITY. Like in any other hustle, the MORE SPECIFIC you are the smaller your market/traffic flow. That's just the nature of the beast. However, that is offset by the NORMALLY higher payout per conversion/click due to the specificity. THis is NOT always the case but normally the better the targeting the better the pay.

This can be done with ANYTHING--women's forum, animal/pets forum, religion, society, anything. MACRO up top, MICRO at the core.

Your question raises a SOLUTION to the specificity problem by putting MANY smaller niches under one roof--example, how to hook up, dating tips, men's health etc under one general men's forum heading. YES, this can be done and would work BUT you have to develop each small niche stream so it carries its own weight and brings traffic to the main site as well. This "aggregation" approach would be profitable but so would the MICRONICHE or specific niche approach. I'd say start small first then ramp up.

No, bruh. In this thread, I used ADWORDS TOOL at hxxps://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to get the search Traffic volume for keywords

This gives me an idea as to which keywords to hit

I then create an account at Adwords to PRICE OUT the keywords to make sure they make good money--price out = find the price.


Once I know which keywords make good money, I put them on my forum and add adsense. The keywords pull up the MONEY adsense ads.

Let me know if this is clear.

Torrents are a BAD IDEA if you are using ADSENSE. They will ban you. There are other sponsors that don't give a fuck. Many dating sites don't give a damn. Just look at any porn tube site and see who their dating sponsors are. Those are the most liberal when it comes to content tolerance.

I don't use godaddy hosting. For cheap domains try namecheap or you can try a .info name. Godaddy sells those for dirt cheap.

Vbulletin sends out pings and searches for unregistered vbulletin installs on the regular. Not a good idea to run a cracked version.

There's tons of free shit out there--SMF and PHPBB

The only downside is getting a mofo to mod that shit so Search engines can find your threads.

D-Town after trying the code to add the adsense before or after posts in the thread, I came across this instead of altering the postbit in the template. that may of been for older versions of vBulletin...

Go to your admin cp > styles and templates >> edit templates >> Ad Location Templates >> ad_showthread_beforeqr then paste your Adsense Code in there and click Save


Makes things alot simpler...

First of all I wanna give D Town props for starting this thread. I have several blogs ... some are monetizing and some are not.

Regardless, D Town always drops the heat. I'm going to resign myself to get on the ball and get with this advice and actually apply the stuff I haven't applied.

I'm working on my business books tonight and while I'm tallying expenses I'm realizing I spent about $600 in domain names. I didn't do the income portion yet but I better have made a profit. Regardless in 2010 I'll be on some D Town Red shit.

I suggest you check out CPA/tax info sites online, they break down what are legitimate costs/expenses and how they impact your payment. The key is to avoid drama by playing by the rules--just like any regular business. Whether your business is online or offline, the same rules apply.

The content all depends on your traffic flow and target market. The more specific your market is and the more relevant your content, you will get clicks but make sure it is COMMERCIAL IN NATURE. If the topic is just info for info's sake, tehre may not be enough "upsell ability to get clicks. As for "call to action" types of lines like "Prada 50% off" you have to put that in the BODY of the content and it must be relevant or it might get tagged as inappropriate/misleading.

Although forum SEO/marketing is easier than blogging, this is not a quick and easy hustle to get cash. SEO/search engine traffic takes a while to get and takes effort.

For faster results, see my earlier thread regarding adsense/contextual ad arbitrage. that is faster because you BUY cheap traffic, have it trigger more expensive ads and make money on the spread.

The only "catch" is people have to put in the effort--not just physical but also mental because keyword and niche research takes some concentration and focus.
