I wanted to add something.

Claiming asylum is not easy. You have to understand why it is so hard to claim and why most asylum cases get denied (yes, a great deal of asylees get denied asylum).

By definition you can claim asylum if you have been persecuted or may be persecuted for,

• Race
• Religion
• Nationality
• Membership in a particular social group
• Political opinion

You simply can't say that you claim asylum because nobody is hiring in the town you came from and you want a chance to get a job. Most of the Central American migrants are doing it for economic reasons which is not a reason for asylum.

He did make a point and he did answer her question. The problem is she (or other people) wanted him to say specifically the memo was about family separation. But he stated the memo is about recommendations on protecting the border and zero tolerance is included. And the problem with zero tolerance is that it can be exploited. That is not not what the Border Patrol does. They do not work at the Port of Entry. The Border Patrol patrols the areas in between the Ports like a police department. The Office of Field Operations works at the Ports. The immigrants should be able to go to the Port and request Political Asylum but the Trump administration has limited it to only 40 applicants a day. Instead of waiting in dangerous Mexican border towns, the aliens are just walking down the road and crossing into the United States. They're not running or hiding, they're turning themselves into the first Border Patrol Agent they see.

For the people who don't think this effects them, understand this: This is all about you! If someone doesn't like Brown people, they definitely do no like you. The war on immigrants is just a proxy for the war on Us. It's like in the Cold War, fighting in Vietnam, not directly against the Russians. This is all about Us. White GOP racism thrives on plausible denial. They can claim that they don't hate Brown people, they just want them to follow the law and come here legally. Even though their own ancestors just showed up at Ellis Island without papers.

I hear what you are saying and it's a shame those people have had to turn their lives upside down because their country isn't worth the real estate it sits on.
