This is why I don't believe most of these articles."ESPN writer says young NBA players are depressed being drafted to cities they dont want to live"
...... as with the majority of jobs in the real world .... you gotta work your way to the top .... who gives two fux if they're sad or depressed ...... maybe they'd be happier making $30k a year .... or worse ......
.
We are talking about kids man. Kids. Not men. Not grown men. Not men, kids.
First, grow up poor, bad area, and dream of a nice crib for you and your family, money and the good life. You’re already moving to a new city at fucking 19 or 20! Who the fuck ever did that without college being the reason? Now you leave the mean streets of Chicago or NYC, only to have millions of dollars in racist ass Portland or Memphis, goddamn boring ass Seattle-with millions!?!?
Most of y’all must never have moved across country before. I took the spot in atlanta but was an adult and new altanta well. I wasn’t 19 and rich, with the weight of playing in the league on my shoulders. If my job offered me a big race to take the Uma, Arizona job; I’m probably not gonna be excited about going-even with a raise and new title. I’ve done it. It sucks. New friends, you miss old ones, gotta end a relationship if you’re in one. Gotta find all new everything. And all those are cool if you go where you want to be. None of y’all would be happy with a million dollars in Shoestring County, Idaho.

Let’s list all the “bad” cities to be young and rich in:
-Salt Lake City
-Portland
-Indianapolis
-Cleveland
-San Antonio
-Boston
-OKC
-Sacramento
-Orlando
That’s 9 of 30, so roughly 33% of the L has to live somewhere on a part-time basis where it ain’t always crackin but you’re on the road so much that it really should matter THAT much.
Now on the flip side; the NFL, THOSE dudes have to stay in two of those cities (Indianapolis and Cleveland) for at least half the year (training camp and season and maybe playoffs) with nothing but flat ass land and weather that goes from hot to ok to cold as hell. Then you add in Buffalo, Green Bay, Jacksonville, and Cincinnati......football players get a much bigger end of the shitty city stick and for less money and non-guaranteed contracts to boot.
Boston and Portland not that bad imo but you left out Milwaukee, Detroit, Charlotte, Minneapolis
I’ve kicked in all those cities and agree on Milwaukee but the other three were cool.
Few sistas in Minneapolis but some good to bad ass white women (not my preference per se) between 22-30, enough to keep an NBA player occupied for those cold winters.
That's why you know this article is bullshit.Depressed. FOH!
For $22 million over 3 years, ALL OF IT GUARANTEED, I’d happily go take a job in the most hick, backwater, racist hillybilly town in inbred America.
Over 40% of the season they’re going to be out of town and on the road.
4 months out of the year, they’ll be in the off seasons and can go wherever they want.

Orlando isn't so bad except for the large trump supporter population.
Only appeal of Orlando to me would be no state income tax and a quick flight on the jet to miami
Well it is a little different though....cause in the job market at large, most companies are not part of an organization that sets rules on how many newcomers each underling company can hire and how much they can pay them and how many years out of high school the newcomers have to be. Google isnt awarded the rights to anyone's labor unless that person chooses to work for them and if that person wants to go elsewhere instead, there is no commissioner saying nope, you can't, cause Google had your pick.
....now all that said and done, it's still hard to find a way around it. Breaking it all up and moving towards that european soccer model may sound ok, but it would undoubtably affect TV contracts, etc and thus affect team and league $$$$$. Money talks.
I think rookie contracts should maybe be be changed to not lock them in as long, etc.
Haven't read everyone responses but I think someone pointed out that this article wouldn't exist if New York or LA got the number 1 pick.
This is one of those things in where with "great power comes great responsibility "...in other words, you cant have everything go your way. I coach high level AAU and I tell kids to use basketball, dont let basketball use you. They know what they sign up for when they make the decision to one day be a pro basketball player. Its part of the game for now.
Orlando is cool, pretty much any store or restaurant you can think of is there, good job market, good night life, beaches, not country.
Fuck all that shit! I wanna see bad exotic bitches shaking their ass everyday on my face! *co-signed by every young man that just entered the NBA and is now a millionaire*No fault of the young kids they haven't lived long enough to appreciate the finer things in life. Salt Lake City with it's mountain views. Or Cleveland's lakefront skyline. And especially these crap cities low cost of living. Every city has redeeming qualities.
