I've seen a few setup and they all failed. We don't support black businesses in our own neighborhoods. Do you really expect whites to support us?![]()
since when have white people ever done anything based on how black people have done it??
seriously

Is anybody from Detroit in this thread?
Reading these defeatist attitudes about black people makes me wonder how bad it is in the rest of the country.
Is it really that bad outside Detroit? What about Atlanta, Houston, New York, LA, San Francisco, Miami, and DC which are supposedly so superior and better to Detroit.
Surely Detroit has to be worse for black people than those places.

Bingo
like I said before black American don't control shit.
but what is stopping us? Nothing but us. I am not so much concerned about non black neighborhoods as I am the predominantly black neighborhood. first we take care of where we live, and then we branch out incrementally as to not over extend ourselves.I've got a great idea but no capital to start with.I am tired of all these businesses in the black neighborhood that are not black owned. do you think that we would support our own if we were able to move them out?
but thats the thing koreans don't open stores in their neighborhhod first then after a few decades incrementally branch out they get off the boat or plane and open up a 40 oz and weave selling stop and go in the deepest darkest black neighborhood they can get permits and licenses for.
Whats stopping us from doing that in their neighborhood?? or a jewish neighborhood or a indian hood?
I know what they do, there is little resistance to them coming up and setting up shop. However, there is resistance to us.
this the crux of the issue right here..this is what needs to be confronted and exposed.
Marcus Garvey was one of the greatest black leaders we ever had. He said that black people will never be successful depending on whites or other races of people, he said that as black people we must come together and do for self. I’m going to list some of Marcus Garvey’s achievements.
1. Marcus Garvey built factories, where he made black dolls for black kids to play with.
2. He built a hotel.
3. He built a chain of grocery stores.
4. His organization had their own trucking company.
5. He built schools.
6. He built restaurants.
7. His organization had their own printing press.
8. He started 3 newspapers.
9. His main newspaper was called the Negro World, and that newspaper was published in Spanish and French.
10. His organization bought 5 ships and they started practicing international trade and commerce.
11. Marcus Garvey’s organization owned office buildings.
12. They also bought an auditorium in New York, and that’s where he mainly spoke and this place was called Liberty Hall.
13. By 1922 Marcus Garvey organization had 6 million members.
14. They had branches in 40 countries.
15. Marcus Garvey also started his own political party, and he named it The Peoples Political Party.
Marcus Garvey did all of that without help from white people or the Government, and he did it with an 8th grade education.
REAL REVOLUTIONARY…THAT’S WHY THEY IMPRISONED HIM AND SHIPPED HIM BACK TO JAMAICA….IF OUR LEADERS AREN’T BEING ARRESTED, THAT JUST MEANS THEY ARE NOT REVOLUTIONARY ENOUGH!!
I dont know who you are, or what you do, but DAMN!!!Just found this thread.
I'll answer yes. I've seen mainly Caribbean restaurants and hair salons. Some night spots and pastry shops too. However, they usually START in a mixed neighborhood and then get OVERTAKEN by gentrification and wind up in a white (read: affluent white) area. You see this in Brooklyn in Prospect Heights, Flatbush, Crown Heights, Ft. Greene, Williamsburg (read North Bushwick).
The ones that go out of business (most) usually do so for these reasons (IMHO):
(a) can't keep up with the new rent (did not purchase building when had opportunity)
(b) poor service (running out of rice and beans or curry chicken at 5pm every day, stylists not showing up)
(c) inability to integrate with new culture (stylists don't cut 'white' hair or do so poorly, presentation of food is poor - no price increase to improve facilities and food presentation)
(d) bad marketing (storefront dirty, windows dirty and poorly lit, staff rude/scary - need retraining, no coordination with neighboring businesses to achieve synergies)
(e) no delivery service / catering (owner too fatigued to properly 'work' the new environment)
(f) poor space utilization (vestiges of 'hood' mentality cause layout to be poor and uninviting, not enough ROI per sq ft. when rent increases)
However, a few business I've seen have survived by taking some of these elements into account or focusing on parts of the business that provide the most revenue.
(a) pastry shop focuses on signature foods and implements home delivery and wedding specialty catering services.
(b) hair salon becomes a 'hair studio' and seriously retails 'white' haircare products, along with an interior redesign and maximization of store frontage.
(c) Caribbean restaurant redesigns (new tables, new signage, etc) gets good looking wait staff and focuses on staff development and customer experience. Also modifies menu and increases prices to improve quality. Hours of business become rock-solid. Catering. Brunch menu added. Etc.
If black people aint doing the hiring, we will always be last hired, first fired. It is a sad state of affairs when you see the lack of black businesses when the population is predominantly black. This has contributed to the high unemployment rate.
