Does anyone know of a study about black businesses in non black communities vs non black businesses in black communities?

Non-black businesses in black communities?

What I mean is it seem to me that if you go thru a black neighborhood you will see various non-black-owned or run entrepreneurial business (mom and pop stores, clothing stores, shoe store, restaurants, etc) run by greeks, Hispanics, Asians, Indians (dot) Jews, what have you.

But ride thru THOSE neighborhoods (Indian, Asian, Jewish, Hispanic, etc) and you almost never if EVER see a black-owned or operated business.

I have never been in an all white neighborhood, walked into a store, and saw nothing but black people running the place.

Does anyone know if they did a study on that?

THREAD IS TEN YEARS OLD HAS THERE BEEN ANY PROGRESS???

Every black own biz is not openly known as a black own biz.. as I said b4 on here I know a multi-millionaire that owns several lounges/restaurants/ bars in predominantly white areas in a few states.. nobody knows the owner is black, he isn’t all up in the spot wearing an h.n.i.c shirt.. but he does own and makes lot of money off of cacs.. he’s not the only biz like that and won’t be the last

I doubt any study has been done on it.

Usually predominantly White areas will copy what they see from non-white areas and put their own spin on it.

One example is the “burrito” from Latino communities. White folks renamed it a “wrap”. Along with coming up with their own restaurant chains like “Taco Bell”, “Del Taco” and “Chipotle”

I have heard, but haven’t seen it myself, “Chicken N Waffle” joints opening up in predominantly white areas under different names and making slight changes to the traditional style of preparing it.

I also have heard of Black Soul Food restaurants that are open in predominantly white areas around the country. Curious to know if they are Black owned.

Just discovered this thread.
Great Topic.

I used to live in/around Portland, Oregon.
I still keep in touch with quite a few peeps and news outlets online.

Caught a story a week ago on News Station KGW's site featuring a young Brother who started a Coffee Shop in Downtown Portland.
According to some friends, there are quite a few Black businesses of that variety doing the Coffee/Pastry thing in PDX these days.

I'll see if I can find that particular KGW Video.
But here's a current list of Portland's Black Businesses...

Portland Black Businesses

And that's just amongst a few throughout Oregon

Add those Habibi ass mfkrs to the list too.....

I do not patronize "sand kneegro" businesses
this is one of those things that we CANT have a legit conversation about because people will give 1 of 2 reactions to it.

1. Deflect and make about smething she's NOT talking about

2. Ignore....just pretend it doesn't exist.

because to acknowledge it is to acknowledge something about american society that one side of the country has denied since the civil war.

She's right tho......

Asians love them some "urban" locations

There's 5 Chinese restaurants within a 1.5-2 mile radius where I used to work.....hood suburb avg household income $50k

Where I work now, ultra white suburb

Avg household income about $200k.....

2 in a 5 mile radius.....

Never seen a habibi hair store in a neighborhood like this.....

There were 6 in my old work location

I think its more they get in where they can fit in. The bigger issue is can black businesses be established in THEIR neighborhoods??

With reparations, they peel off $5 million dollars, the first thing some of you will do is go out and setup businesses or pool you money to make major investments. This contradicts what they have been slowly setting up with Asians and Indians for decades. Governor Newsom can be put on a death list with WS and taken out quietly.

Why do they have it setup this way? My guess is to mask racist consumer buying patterns. They could be taking our business ownership opportunities to bolster their trade relationship with these countries. Limiting us to expansion teams and committing terrorism when a Historically White Corporation is being sought contradicts bolstering trade relationship.

I ran across this bizarre behavior, causing me to rethink whether I wanted to remain in the U.S. long term.

1. I have been doing research into these practices since I will be stuck here for awhile, it looks like some type of masking of racist consumer behavior. Let say you are a lifetime Redskins fan, than the ownership switches to Brian Davis, which upsets you. You stop buying season tickets, since there was a long term track record of revenue for the team, it would be easy to prove that the black ownership was the reason. This is why they freak out when you buy one of their companies

This is why black owners are put on expansion teams.

2. They also don't want you sharing suppliers like what Apple did with Intel, making it hard for the consumer to justify not purchasing your product.

3. Sometimes they will put these Indian and Asian businesses in place of us, to avoid being exposed.

4. Politics, most presidential candidates have Senator or Governor backgrounds which many black candidates lack until recently, this helps mask racist voting patterns.

Same thing in SF/bay area.

My first residence was playing at a Black owned CAC biker bar in Castro Valley.

Yes, but they wont support it. Why should they? They have people that look like them providing the same products & services.

Black people support everyone & own nothing. Wont work together & too worried about how much the next man is making.

I just ran into a West Indian pop up food truck called jam rock jerk yesterday that was outside the Trader Joe’s on 59 st.. they say they out there every sat 11:30am-8pm.. if you notice all the locations they basically pop up at is heavily populated white traffic areas. Why cause you can overcharge and white people don’t know how to cook and will easily buy their food. Plus take pics share it with their friends, tell their friends, order multiple plates for others.. it’s been this way for decades when it comes to certain black bizz genres like food. I been saying this on this board for over a decade. If you in the culinary bizz get some white customers and overcharge they will be happy to pay and support

Same thing my ex father in law does. Moved out to Penticton, a town of 35,000 people. Maybe 10 or 20 of them might be Black. Opened up the only Jamaican restaurant in town. Now he's setting up a second location.

Probably varies from region to region. In Ohio, generally speaking there wasn't any need for whites to copy shit from non-white areas(white areas still got different vibes up here like places that sell a dozen donuts for damn near $30). Came up in a white area. As you know, whites have different ethnicities/nationalities.

There was a Chinese restaurant and that was it. Outside of that, everything was nationality/ethnic. Italian bakeries, eastern euros selling perogies(sp), etc.

I've seen white neighborhoods turn black(like the one I came up in). Arabs/Asians came in THEN black businesses with the day cares, barbershops, hair salons, car washes, bars(that have to be shut down). But arabs quickly got the delis/corner stores and gas stations once the black population hit a certain percentage. Seems to happen in every area. Arabs/Asians come in with black residents. :smh:

Sadly, black businesses can't even dominate black communities. Wasn't the case before the 1960s. Can't worry about white areas when we can't even lock down our own communities.

The brother who owns that lives around the corner from me. He parked his truck in his driveway for years, we got some new neighbors two months ago and mysteriously his truck was broken into. He caught the sons on camera
