Dispelling a Myth: Part 1 - Kobe Bryant is a clutch player

Re: Dispelling a Myth: Part 1 - tobe is a clutch player

BTW, in the spirit of this thread... more evidence of why tobe is steve kerr's clear cut MVP (and supposedly a clutch player)

the last 45 seconds from Q4 against the atlanta hawks tonight;

(0:45) [LAL] Bryant Turnover: Lost Ball (4 TO) Steal: Childress (1 ST)

yeah, right.

[I]whaz up ? I just wanna say I'm a Lakers fan to the end, last or first place. I'm not here to say who is or who is not hitting shot, but I would love to see more W's.[/I]

then you're a GOOD fan. i'd wager that most of your peers couldn't say the same thing...

as a BASKETBALL fan, i would too... i am an admitted fakers hater (being a 76ers fan), but that doesn't mean i don't want to see basketball played the proper way... the fakers should have A LOT more wins than they have now...

with 30 games left, i'd like to see what fakers fans predict the win/loss record will be... are they going to finish over .500?

fakers LOSE...

yeah, tobe's soooooo clutch...

suckers...

:smh:

It's great to know that as savvy as claim to be in matters of basketball, you haven't forgotten exactly who plays for the Lakers, why so few (if any) of those players would be starting on any other team in the league. I mean after all, they were all having fantastic seasons before they came to the Lakers, right?

tobe dribbled out the clock and didn't get a shot off in regulation ON HIS OWN...

don't scapegoat tobe's fakers teammates when tobe HIMSELF is the player who couldn't produce in a critical situation against the grizzlies...

but then, it's easier to blame the 'lesser' players for tobe's faults, because that would be too disturbing...

these unproductive last 45 seconds against the atlanta hawks must've been chris mihm's fault, right?:

I know it was just the All Star game (which is a glorified exhibition) but despite this, the MDP contines to prove me right

(0:16) [EST 122-120] Wade Layup: Made (20 PTS)

Future superstar Dwyane Wade puts the East up following Iverson's miss.

Re: Dispelling a Myth: Part 1 - tobe Bryant is a clutch player

BOSTON ALL STARS 112
FAKERS 111

tobe went 0-3 FGAs in Q4

tobe missed the final shot of the game from 18 feet...

 at the fakers losing at home to the overwhelming 22-33 boston celtics...

it's no wonder tobe couldn't WILL the fakers to victory over such a formidable opponent...

Maybe I should add the Dispelling a Myth Part 2: Kobe Bryant cannot play defense because not only was PP makin' Wobe look like an overwhelmed rookie but he allowed Chris Mihm to get posterized because he played matador D the whole game :smh:

(0:45) Team Timeout: Regular
(0:34) Szczerbiak Layup Shot: Missed Block: Turiaf (2 BLK)

(0:15) [LAL 111-111] Odom Free Throw 1 of 1 (14 PTS)

I couldve sworn that this dude was the reason that the lakers suck so why is he getting And-1s with the game on the line?

(0:15) Team Timeout: Short 0:15
(0:15) Turiaf Substitution replaced by Walton
(0:03) Bryant Foul: Personal (5 PF)

Why would Bryant be trying to foul here? (Fouled PP twice actually) Not enough confidence in your D to force PP to make a tough shot huh?

(0:03) LaFrentz Substitution replaced by Allen
(0:03) [BOS 112-111]Pierce Free Throw 1 of 2 (39 PTS)
(0:03) Cook Substitution replaced by Mihm
(0:03) Pierce Free Throw 2 of 2 missed
(0:01) Walton Rebound (Off:1 Def:2)

If this was the referees at the superbowl, that would have been a 10 yard penalty on Luke for holding... :hmm:

(0:01) Team Timeout: Regular
(0:01) Mihm Substitution replaced by Cook
(0:01) Allen Substitution replaced by LaFrentz

No surprise here. Bryant takes a fade away jumper over 2 people for another loss. Apparently the lakers thought that Odom being wide open under the goal for the easily lay-up to win it wasnt dramatic enough.

:smh: @ anyone who thinks Wobe Bryant is an elite player.

lOOKED LIKE HE WAS CHOKING BIG TIME
I haven't heard too many Jordan comparisons lately...wonder why?

PP got by him on that last play and Kobe tried to get away with a reach around. Great defense.

I was suprised Kobe could jump with all those announcers riding his dick.

SP,

Wobe's defense in that game was terrible. His constant gambles on D for the steal make it 4 on 5 most of the game. The play of the game for the MDP for me though was when he passed the ball backwards to Smush Parker on a 4 on 1 fastbreak resulting in a TO :smh: @ his lack of fundamentals and sound play.

After listening to some people after seeing the lakers go 0-2 in 2 home games this weekend and the fanboys constantly saying 'Well Wobe had 40 so it obviously wasnt his fault they lost, they team just sucks'

This is leading me to believe that there really arent any real lakers fans anymore. I'd say 95% of the 'laker fans' are actually Wobe camp followers and the other 5% are geniune laker fans.

Look here X,

I am a real Lakers fan and I have been for at least 25 years!!!

Kobe is not only the best player on his team but he is the best player in the league right now! I admit that Kobe sometimes tries to do to much, but the team around him sucks! If it were not for Kobe the Lakers would have by far the worst record in the league and probably around 1-3 wins, so why is it that you get off trashing him? (Was that your sister he fucked in Colorado? ) Don't get me wrong I love the whole squad, its my team, shit I'm even friends with a couple of them (and one of them is not Kobe), but the Lakers have a weak team around Kobe right now. But they have a better team than they did last year and I see progress...

Kwame shows flashes (still inconsistent and maybe should try so stick em)
Brian has found his outside shot consistently as of late (and surprise Kobe's assists are up all of sudden - amazing how that happens when your teammates make shots when you pass them the ball vs missing them)
Smush has been a pleasant surprise (and if they can find a real PG next year he will be a very good backup)
Ronny looks like the high energy they've lacked since Horry & Fox left (and when he gets his conditioning back to where it was before surgery he might be dominant, not an All-Star but quality forward who can give them 6-8-2 a night)
I lot of people critisized the Lakers for picking Andrew, but I love the pick and with Kareem teaching him I believe he will have a better career than Shaq! (I know some people think I'm crazy for saying that, but the kid has size, talent, heart, and he is willing to practice and get better and he has a lot of years ahead of him - Shaq was lazy he never improved his game since he came into the league) Note: I believe Shaq was the best Center of his era, and this kid is nowhere near him right now, but I can see the possiblity that Bynum enjoys a better career.

I'm tired of typing...

:smh:

REAL players with REAL talent elevate their teams... example? houston rockets with moses malone 1981...

now compare what moses malone accomplished with his teammates as opposed to what tobe has done in the past 2 seasons without shaquille o'neal...

um, didn't the fakers lose to portland (the WORST team in the west) and charlotte (the WORST team in the east) WITH tobe?

come on, STOP THE SCAPEGOATING...

better team than last year?

record at end of february last year was 28-27 and that INCLUDES 2 weeks without tobe... this year the fakers are 29-28 at the end of february...

better players?

chucky atkins seems to be doing fine in memphis, and caron butler is doing fine in washington... the fakers gave them up to get kwame brown... how's he doing again?

ronny turiaf is a solid player, lamar odom is a solid player, chris mihm is a solid player, william parker is a solid O player (horrible penetration D, though), brian cook is a solid O player (with suspect D)

von wafer sucks, so does sasha vujacic...

andrew bynum is a project with unknown potential...

No matter how much you say, the weak link of the lakers is Wobe. Did you not see how he single handidly lost the game for them against the Celtics last Sunday? I will be the first to admit that I dont see every lakers game because I dont live in California but everytime I watch them, I see the same trash style of play from your boy Wobe. You cant tell me that it is a strange coincidence that everytime I see Wobe, he plays like he's still a freshman in highschool learning the game.

I'm sure you will see the game tonight...Watch how Wobe's lack of D (on the ball and help - not that roaming the passing lane for steals) gives Portland guards easy lay-ups and wide open jumpers. Watch how he struggles to keep up with Steve Blake (which will probably be his matchup because Juan Dixon will torch him on O) and even Martell Webster (Yeah the ALL NBA Defender might actually guard a high school rookie  )

:smh: @ 1-3 wins... Call me crazy but like I've said before, if Wobe gets hurt and misses an extended stretch for the rest of the season, not only will the lakers have a better record with him out but they could probably move up as far as 6th in the Western conference playoff race

And I dont know what you are talking about when you say they had a better team last year. Do you not remember they had Chucky Atkins and Caron Butler on the team last year?

I can gaurantee you right now that Andrew Bynum will not have the career Shaq had. He will be lucky to have a career equal to or slightly better than Eddy Curry. And the reason I say that is a key difference between the 3 and it has everything to do with the what they did before entering the NBA.

well let's see... mehmet okur has the jazz a couple games behind the fakers and their 'world class' baller...

and i think michael redd might have the bucks in at least a good a shape as the fakers...

but why wade through the squalor of the NBA, where the fakers have been residing the last 2 seasons? let's take a look at who's doing MORE for their team than tobe is for the fakers...

chucky atkins has the grizzlies positioned ahead of the fakers...

caron butler has the wizards heading in the right direction...

ROOKIE chris paul has the hornets ahead of the fakers...

oh, what was that you say? the fakers with mighty tobe just lost again to the trailblazers? the squad with the WORST record in the west?

NO. i don't.

CLEARLY caron butler is doing MORE for his team than tobe is for the fakers

mehmet okur is ALMOST doing AS MUCH for his team as tobe is for the fakers

in case you hadn't noticed, the fakers lost 3 games ago AT HOME to a squad whose record is 23-34... WITH your superboy on the floor...

maybe teamwork is tobe's green kryptonite... :smh:

oh, i forgot. the reason the fakers lost against the celtics is because the 'no-talent' bums playing with tobe didn't step up, right?

brian cook 8-16 FGAs
lamar odom 6-11 FGAs
chris mihm 2-5 FGAs
william parker 3-6 FGAs

oh, i guess not... THEY shot 50% FGAs that night. did tobe?

stop the scapegoating and face the FACTS.

You are confusing scoring with greatness.

Some of MJ's best plays were ASSISTS!!!! (The pass to Kerr to win the championship against the Jazz to win the series)...........

Kobe doesn't suck....his game is just very selfish and he doesn't get the idea of team play.

In addition Kobe comes off as an asshole who is so self-centered that he cannot see it. Jordans whole team was somewhat jealous of him and didn't always like him however they RESPECTED him enough to follow his lead. He even had private workouts with Pip and Harper OFF THE COURT. Could you really see Kobe doing things like that?....I can't. Shaq will have the whole team at his house.Shaq was voted by NBA PLAYERS as the teammate they would most like to play with. Kobe doesn't extend himself in that way. That shit that went down with Karl Malone was childish and stupid.

A team leader is a leader on and off the court. Kobe wants the credit when they win and blames his teammates when they lose.

I dont get it. Yall hate Kobe so much, why do yall take the time to look at his stats, copy them, bold them, and then make a thread about it. I would never waste this much time on someone i dont like.

This is a sports talk board and Kobe is being thrust upon us by the media. Here we can dissect the BS between ESPN and REAL. We are also fortunate enough to have a former NBA player to help with this.

Why are you all over Kobe so much? When did you start to think Kobe is the GOAT? Why can't you take a careful analysis of what is being said? These guys at least bring game recaps to sustantiate their points of view.

The problem with the game recaps, is that they fail to mention that all 3 shots were desperation 3 pointers. As far as this former in NBA bench sitter you are talking about helping you dissect games... why don't you try and listen to former NBA players (ones that actually played) like Magic & Jordan that both say Kobe is the best SG in the league right now! You don't have to like Kobe, but to try and say the guy can't play is ridiculous! :smh:

Why am i all over kobe? i didnt start this thread, did I? I didnt go to espn.com or nba.com and copy and paste his stats. And i never said i thought kobe was the GOAT. We all know who the GOAT is. And these analysis are nothing compared to real Analyist who have actually played the game in the NBA, and not in a rucker tournament or the NBDL. But the people who are trying to make their point of view by posting caps, really doesnt matter. Because when its all said and done, kobe will still have his rings, still be in the HOF, and still be ONE of the greatest ever. Me? All over kobe? Dont think so. Im a fan no doubt. But thats about it.

Magic will say anything sometimes........He once said that Larry Bird was the greatest and Magic has always been clearly better than Bird.

Kobe is the selling point for the leauge. This is entertainment and alot of commentators are towing the company line. Talk to them off the record and you will get a whole different story. That is why I appreciate a more inside perspective like you get on here and the insidehoops message board.

Remember, how many games do you think these guys can actually watch anyway? Sometimes they just go off of newspaper reports and highlights. Their on camera opinion of Kobe might be keeping in line with the packaging.
They said the same thing about Jordan...until he won. Why can't Kobe fans let Kobe win before riding him?

Kobe doesn't suck...no way. However his individual play SUCKS and his attitude with his teammates in the press is fucked up so I can only imagine that it's way worse behind the scenes. You ever play ball with someone who shoots all the time then? I have and it sucks...you never know what to expect. He can go 11-30 and get mad at a teammate for missing a shot?

If Magic said Larry Bird is was the best, that is an opinion and one that is valid. Clearly he and Bird were 1 & 2 when thery were in their prime, its not like he said Isiah Thomas was the best! I agree that the league is trying to sell Kobe, but its because he is one of their best players! No sports league promotes middle of the pact players. Furthermore, if his game was not superior, they avoid him like the plague because of his rape trial. Kobe's image has been trashed and clearly he is not the most likeable guy (this board is proof of that), so ask yourself why would the NBA want to sell him? Michael Jordan is not working for the league or any tv station, so he has no reason to toe the company line, he has no reason not to give his honest opinion. Unfortunately, the inside perspective you are seeking here is from people who most likely have no knowledge of the game whatsoever (and just because someone tells you he played in the NBA doesn't make it so - we are all anonymous). As far as how many games former players can watch... well, all of em if they choose. They have the NBA package and don't have regular jobs, I never said anything about the opinions of sportswriters and game broadcasters (who can't watch but so many games and might not have anymore knowledge of that game than you do - I said former players that are in the Hall of Fame, I have to believe they aren't making their opinions off of newspaper reports). As far as on camera, I know several players in the NBA and have talked to them off camera, and while most really don't like the guy I have not personally met one NBA player that doesn't think Kobe is one of the best players ever. What do you mean let Kobe win before riding him??? Just to clear the record, I've never riden Kobe, I have never boasted about Kobe on this board just opposed the silly bashing of him on this board by people who say he sucks! Second, Kobe has three championship rings already. Did you forget? And please don't tell me he has only won with Shaq. Because Shaq hasn't won shit before or after playing with Kobe say that arguement is just silly (without both of them the Lakers would not have won any of those 3). Would you honestly make the statement "how many championships has Magic won without Kareem?" If you agree Kobe doesn't suck, then seperates you from the people you are here to get your inside perspective from since they have said many times that Kobe sucks! So becareful who's opinion you are valuing since you cleary disagree with them. And I agree with you that Kobe's team play definitely needs to improve, but some of the criticism he is taking for selfish play is because of the weak supporting cast around him (although they are stepping up lately). Remember that Kobe was not bashed for selfish play and taking too many shots during those championship runs when he had good players and shooters around him. Also take note that Kobe's assists are up as of late, coinciding with his teammates shooting higher percentages than earlier in season, those same passes he was making to open teammates that they were missing are now hitting. I am not a Kobe fan. I am a Laker fan and therefore carry some bias, but there is no bias when I say that Kobe is one of the best basketball players of all time, a champion, and a first ballot Hall of Famer - so how can people really so much to bash about his game??? There has to be something more to it (jealousy, hatred, ?), I don't know what, but I do know that he is a first ballot Hall of Famer and I don't anybody in the NBA Hall of Fame that sucks!!! ;)

tobe may not have been 'bashed' by some during that time because coach jackson was successfully managing tobe's inordinately STUPID EURO play during those years (1999-2002). incidentally, coach popavich has done a similarly successful job with euros manu ginobili and tony parker.

PROOF:

1999-2000 fakers successful championship playoffs

shaquille o'neal's FGAs: 21.957 per game (making 56.6%)
tobe's FGAs: 17.909 per game (making 44%)

2000-2001 fakers successful championship playoffs

shaquille o'neal's FGAs: 21.5 per game (making 55.5%)
tobe's FGAs: 22.375 per game (making 46.9%)

2001-2002 fakers final successful championship playoffs

shaquille o'neal's FGAs: 20.211 per game (making 52.9%)
tobe's FGAs: 22.684 per game (making 43.4%)

with coach jackson's help on the sidelines, and shaquille o'neal's on-floor leadership, the fakers successfully limited the liability of tobe's presence by keeping his FGAs < 25 FGAs per game AND by ensuring that shaquille o'neal get MORE THAN or ROUGHLY EQUAL AMOUNTS of FGAs. RESULT? 3 CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

BUT WHAT HAPPENED when the deluded euro turd tobe unilaterally decided that he should handle more of the fakers scoring load? let's see.

PROOF:

2002-2003 playoffs (NO rings... wonder why?)

shaquille o'neal's FGAs: 18.833 per game (making 53.5%)
tobe's FGAs: 26.417 per game (making 43.2%)

2003-2004 playoffs (NO rings... wonder why?)

shaquille o'neal's FGAs: 13.955 per game (making 59.3%)
tobe's FGAs: 20.909 per game (making 41.3%)

OH, so in the seasons where tobe CHOSE to shoot 7 MORE TIMES PER GAME than shaquille o'neal, the fakers did NOT win championships. :smh:

game over. END of story. ALL FACTS.

[waits for scapegoaters and excuse makers to huddle]

On tha REAL!!!!

I remember back in the late 80's-early 90's I was a big Michael Jackson fan. The year he won all those grammys was sooooo cool. I barely notices his date was Emmanuel Lewis...basically a kid. The accusations came out and I didn't want to beleive it.

Now I am pretty convinced he is a pervert. I am actually happy that that myth I had established because I liked what he did for the music industry is dead. Now I am more willing to look at things as they are.

This Tim guy sounds very young. He hasn't seen how the media can really trick the hell out of people. He probably thinks Luther Vandross is straight and that the arabs did 9-11. He probably thinks Larry Bird is better than Magic Johnson.
He probably thinks Kobe is the best SG of all time!!!!

whoa, why you calling me out? I never even said Kobe was the greatest. If you read my last post, i said Jordan was the greatest and we all know that. And the media has not tricked me into believing anything. I will admit, that i was not a huge ball fan when magic and bird were going at it. I became a kobe fan back when he won the slam dunk contest, and i have been a fan of his since then. As well as a big NBA fan. I was with the lakers when kobe was throwing up them airballs to when they were getting swept by the spurs and utah. I could care less what he does off the court. Hell no i didnt buy his album. I only support what he does on the court. And i have my opinion of him, just like you have yours Neither one of us are experts and neither one of us knows him personally. I respect your opinion and not once did i say you were wrong. I am not that young at all, im 27. And from watching hardwood classics, i would not assume that bird is better than magic. And from listening to REAL analyst, i wouldnt assume this either. But back to the matter at hand. yeah you pull up a bunch of stats or whatever, but so what. What does it mean. Does it mean that he wont be in the HOF? Does it mean that the lakers wont retire his number? Dont think so. I just think its funny that people hate kobe so much, that they start threads about it. I mean, say for instance i didnt like Shaq, I wouldnt waste a half hour of my life pulling up stats and posting game caps of him, when i can be getting some ass. I just dont see why people waste their time doing this. Fine, you hate him. Now what? Did he take your girl, your spot, your money? No, so whats the problem. Get on with your life. Im pretty sure kobe is not the only guy in the league that yall dont like, why doesnt someone start a thread about those other players.

No problem at all.

I don't hate Kobe at all. I have just seen the HYPE machine destroy alot of young players.

Remember Grant Hill ? he was supposed to be better than Jordan. With all the hype he was getting he got more all star votes than Jordan. Now he is a "Behind the BBall" material.

Vince Carter,McGrady,Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner, shit damn near anybody who could slam and hit 50 or 60 two games a year was "The Air Apparent". They don't see one so they make one up.

Being from Chicago I watched Jordan grow into a legend in the playoffs and the finals. I watched Detroit kick his ass. I saw him make great defensive plays at crucial moments in crucial games. I saw him make 2.3 million per season when players with much less talent made more...waaay more. He overcame that with the marketing of himself. Kobe is not in the same leauge as Jordan..point blank.

Give McGrady or Carter 30 shots a game and they would do the same thig Kobe is doing. Kobe went over the top with his antics for me to even consider him great in the all time sense.

Oh Yeah, he sucks!!!

Name me any player in the league that can even come close to what Kobe has accomplished this season or in their career!

From MSNBC:

...............Up to that point, it had been Kidd who had performed yeoman's work on Bryant, who missed nine of his first 11 shots and finished 9-for-24 with seven turnovers............

New Jersey (36-28) won its fourth straight game and improved to 17-3 in its last 20 home games. Lamar Odom added 18 points for the Lakers (34-33), who shot 25-for-46 (54 percent) if Bryant’s totals were ignored.
