Discussion: FARGO on FX @10pm Update: Season 5 w/ John Hamm

Never heard of it. I will check it out.

Inside Llewyn Davis (/ˈluːɪn/) is a 2013 black comedy-drama film written, directed, produced, and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen. Set in 1961, the film follows one week in the life of Llewyn Davis, played by Oscar Isaac in his breakthrough role, a folk singer struggling to achieve musical success while keeping his life in order. The supporting cast includes Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham, Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver.

Though Davis is a fictional character, the story was partly inspired by folk singer Dave Van Ronk's autobiography.[5] Most of the folk songs performed in the film are sung in full and recorded live. T Bone Burnett was the executive music producer. Principal photography took place in early 2012, primarily in New York City. The film, a international co-production between companies in France, the United Kingdom and the United States, was financed by StudioCanal before it received an American distributor.

Inside Llewyn Davis premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2013, where it won the Grand Prix. The film was theatrically released in France on November 6, 2013, and in the United Kingdom on January 24, 2014, by StudioCanal. It was given a limited release by CBS Films in the United States on December 6, 2013, before opening in a wide release on January 10, 2014. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing) and three Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy (Isaac), and Best Original Song. Inside Llewyn Davis has been held in high critical esteem since its release, being voted the 11th-best film released since 2000 in both a 2016 BBC Culture poll and a 2017 The New York Times list.[6][7]

Well said. And in the end he’s left dead with eyes open sitiing on the ground against the wall staring at his shooter. Mr. OCD-PTSD himself. Meanwhile there’s a trail of innocent bodies below on ground level, and instead of apprehending the 2 outlaw women alive, one was shot in the forehead and the other ran away. I hope Zelmare fucks some people up as payback for taking out her sidekick Swanee.

Hell, in a perfect world I’d like to see Ethelrida again foil nurse Mayflower. Set her up (Mayflower) to get arrested or killed for all her past actions at the hospital.

I really really hope she don't end up killing Loy

I don't need any serious black v black

She can murk the ocd dude I'm cool with that.

@Helico-pterFunk now I'm thinking

Everyone under established ocd cop

I mean ok Loy doesn't cause he wouldn't have given him the order if he thought different

But i could see him going forward using his ocd as a mask so everyone thinks he 8s incapable

Agreed. If I recall correctly, Cannon's crew helped Zelmare/Swanee escape to safety ... and he noted no harm would come to them. Though he tipped off Deafy as to where they'd be headed. Zelmare might piece that together as him only knowing where they were headed, and telling Deafy thereafter. Like you said, I hope things don't end badly between Zelmare & Loy Cannon.

Good point about a potential excuse / cover. Being "incapable" of such violence. Wouldn't it be something if Zelmare later turns herself in, and flat-out says - "He killed my partner-in-crime and Deafy in front of me ... go after him!"

I'm liking how the season is playing out. The stakes have been high in recent episodes, and there have been serious consequences. People paying with their lives.

Agreed. Really loved the acting from Senator in those diner scenes. Sound voice of reason.

Have appreciated Rock's role over the course of the season too.

As my dad has said - "Occasionally his unique voice and cadence was noticeable earlier in the season, but he fits the role well now. Tough to do when you have established yourself for 30-some years in comedic performances."

I hope we get a 5th season in the future. Hawley has said he doesn’t force the issue with the series. Only does them when the concept’s fully fleshed out. Hence the 3-year gap between seasons 3 and 4. Fans weren’t sure it would be returning. But it’s nice having the anthology format for this show and others on TV. You never know what you’ll get cast-wise, and it’s usually more hit than miss. Which is why we return as viewers. Good to see FX / FXX doing well with their hits over time. Fargo, Sunny, Atlanta, Americans, Shadows, Sons, Mayans, etc.

Atlanta getting 2 more seasons

I have not seen Shadows yet

Mayans was becoming my favorite

That’s great to hear re: Atlanta! One of the best shows on TV!

What We Do in the Shadows is funny. Not LOL, but lots of quirky dialogue and scenarios. It had me smiling @ the absurdity quite a bit.

My dad’s gf said she wants to see Sons from the start. I told her to start soon as she’ll probably want to see Mayans as well!

I laughed out loud a few times at him hastily using napkins (or tissue / toilet paper) for that serious wound on his face. Blood everywhere ... what a mess.

This podcast has been an interesting listen the past month. The 2 co-hosts think this season is a modern take / loose interpretation on the Wizard of Oz, of sorts with dad Thurman mentioning reading it with Ethelrida in that 1st or 2nd ep ...

- Ethelrida = Dorothy
- Oraetta Mayflower = Wicked Witch
- Wizard of Oz = America (pulling the strings)
- They are still piecing together Scarecrow, Tinman, and Cowardly Lion ... but they are thinking Rabbi Milligan & Odis Weff ... and so on ...

Very interesting. Here's a preview for tonight's episode ... and the commenters on Youtube (referencing the podcast I mentioned earlier in the thread)! Did they call it at the start of the season? If so ... damn!

Is the next episode going to be in full Black & White? If so, I'm excited. I really want to find out what happens to Rabbi.

The OG movie was a classic. Been watching this season. My girl thinks the mortician's daughter is really Cannon's daughter. The Marshall was cocky as fuck. This thread got me wanting to watch the whole series now. Good stuff.

Very interesting. Ethelrida as Cannon's daughter, and Satchel eventually becoming Mike Milligan, from what people have been discussing.

Definitely check out the full series, GJ. The first season pays plenty of homage to the original movie. The 2nd season is widely regarded as the best. 3rd's pretty good ... especially with some of the cat & mouse tactics amongst some of the characters.
