Dave Chappelle brings his "good friend" Elon Musk to his show. Elon gets Booed.

Whose alias is this bruh? Is this mit_dropout?

Lmao @ "use your brain!"... take your own advice champ. You'd have to be the biggest fucking rube in the world to suggest that Elon is actually interested in the Libertarian fantasy of "free speech" (especially given his insanely transparent right wing grift). I'd also suggest that you probably don't really understand what "free speech" entails from a legal standpoint. Hit the books and stop lecturing folks who know better.

Goddamn, it's wild and embarrassing how quickly plebe type niggas will cape up for billionaires. Musk ain't gonna whisk you away from your dreary ass life on some "Pretty Woman" type shit playboi.... put the pom poms down and take a breath
An entire generation that wants to be an influencer for a bag. Explain why some $100 million comedian is groveling for billionaire? And don’t say he was doing for Talib either.

So to be more in touch, you have to not make jokes about trannies and say nothing of Jewish people?
Dave has always poked fun of his audience. I would have been more surprised if he didn't talk shit about both Elon and the audience. Some of the these comments sound brand new AF.

Full disclosure. I'm a Dave stan. He's been my comedy GOAT for a long, long time. His comedic sensibility, incredible insight into the human condition, ability to riff, curiosity about history and it's import in our current context (among other things), and just overal hilariousness has made me hang on his every word for decades. I really love the guy. But lately he's just been kind of a crotchety old dude with not much interesting to say comedically imo. His trans stuff is incredibly boring and pantomimes classic conservative nonsense. His "Jew" stuff is also incredibly boring and draws on well worn tropes that are literally thousands of years old... LITERALLY. It was yeoman medieval farmers cracking the same jokes and bumping up against "the Jewish question" by candlelight before most of the world was mapped. How this would be interesting for anyone in 2022 is a fucking mystery of the highest order imo.

Of course, because he's David Fucking Chappelle even his worst takes have the scent of genius. I'd be remiss to dismiss him out of hand like I do Kanye at this point. But I'd be lying if I said my man wasn't losing some of his luster. When I think of another comedy legend like George Carlin (who similarly dabbled more in philosophy and spoken word more than pure "jokes" as he got older) the contrast is clear. Carlin was speaking truth to power and fixing our eyes on the real systemic and institutional issues we faced in a truly interesting way. Watching Dave buddy up with this fucking ghoul Elon is pretty sad tbh. Here's hoping he finds his way out this fucked up echochamber and back to the funny again soon.

Dave comes from an upper middle class black family in DC where all of his family members have degrees, multiple degrees but him but he's rich and set out at the age of 14yrs old to make himself who he is, learning from Giants that were underdogs in the business.

I believe Dave is who he is and he gives people tidbits of himself cause that's all we could handle cause there might be some things we might not like or want to accept about him; Granted this can be said for all.

How did they become friends, who knows, but Elon knows that money and influence can and will open doors for him and the people he associates with.

Dave is from Ohio. He came up poor with poor white people.

There's this thing online where ppl pretend there's some equivalence between the "far right" and the "far left" in terms of basic reality (BGOL traffics in this a lot too, being an online space)... it's wild that this dude bought Twitter for billions of dollars (ostensibly out of concern for the integrity of the "public town square" )only to traffic in the most retarded right wing bullshit. As always, I'm shocked at how many folks seem to have fallen off the turnip truck just yesterday:

The more great grands and grands we lose, the more these goofy ass new niggas think history is a TV show.

I ain't never been allowed (by society or family) to forget who I am and who white folks are. These new niggas really rejecting historical education in favor of sidling up to crackas in an effort to get some security.

Niggas is hoes.

When I see Dave perform, to me, he is a combination of George Carlin, Paul Mooney, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and a sprinkle of Rodney Dangerfield. Loved his Netflix body of work. All six releases. Dave has spoken historic and current hard truths about American society, both within his standup work and outside (speaking engagements, interviews, etc.).

That said, I found the nonchalant manner in which Dave introduced Elon to the crowd then saying "controversy, buddy", while Elon awkwardly looks upon the sea of boos, to be hilarious AF  Dave quieting the jeers to get a few more jokes in and to close out the performance shows professionalism for his craft in addition to possibly keeping Elon off of suicide watch. Prolonged boos may literally send that fool off a cliff. Elon comes off as very brittle and unstable concerning the rationale he gave for purchasing twitter.

Philosophically, Dave and Elon don't seem to have much in common but some of Dave's friends are from various walks of life.

I feel you bruh. Dave did choose to bring this goblin up on stage and it's part and parcel of a broader alignment with this weird "alt light" community online (Rogan being the chief "gateway drug" so to speak). Because Dave is who is he was able to get some good jokes off during a tense situation but it begs the question.... Why did he think bringing Elon up was a good idea in the first place? I propose it's because he's totally out of touch. He's alluded to the fact that his enormous wealth has alienated him from erstwhile friends while introducing him to new circles. Couple this with Elon's popularity in the online grifter community (ie the extended Rogan Universe set) it's not hard to understand how he's arrived where he is. Literally clowning his own audience for booing a parasitic billionaire and suggesting that they're mad bc they're poor lol. That shit is tragic... for Dave.

Dave joked it was part of some deal to get his rapper buddies unbanned from twitter. Not sure how true that is, though. You're right, the social circles tend to change as the tax bracket climbs up with classism. Question, did you mean "Alt Right", fam?

Great question bruh: The Alt Right is the obvious front for nazi bullshit here on Earth in 2022 going on 2023... the "Alt Light" is the portion of the movement that will pretend to be outraged by the suggestion that the far right is basically the KKK/Southern Greivance movement in a contemporary context. They'll bristle about being called on their bullshit but make no mistake they're the same folks. Kind of like how former Congressman Steve King (an obvious Nazi) always feigned outrage at being identified as such but who joined the board of the premiere "Suit and Tie" Nazi publication in our country immediately on retirement.

The difference is just a degree of honesty. Your average Republican person who thinks we're animals has like 90%+ fidelity with these Nazi fucks in terms of core beliefs. But they won't admit it... hence the distinction fam.

I have to admit, I'm confused by Dave sharing the stage with Elon at this point and with all the turmoil swirling around Musk. I don't think dave did his self any favors, but who knows if there will be any long term consequences for him. It could be that as has been mentioned his wealth has isolated him from the people that can't remove themselves from the danger Elon's antics pose for us. If Elon is successful in helping to swing government back into the hands of the GOP we can't leave the country like he can to avoid erosion of civil rights, further environmental damage, more police brutality, on and on.

Class usually beats race unfortunately

Y'all believe this church stuff too much, they do it to calm you down.

The problem is the GOP is having right now is younger people are way more open minded, and can see passed their bullshit (They found out during the midterm election) Also, their core base is dying rapidly. Hell, Elon is not the richest man in the world anymore. He is losing a lot of fucking money being an asshole. I said this a few months ago, but the board of Tesla may have to bump him out of the company.

Great early morning reading.

Yeah but he has some other connection with Ohio...remember reading once that he would go there for summer or some shit when he was younger

His father, William David Chappelle III, was a Professor of music and a Civil Rights Organizer in OH. His father was also a Dean at Antioch College (established in 1850 then reopened in 2011) located in Yellow Springs, OH (where Dave currently resides) Dave graduated from Antioch College and is an Alumni.

So, I stand corrected, he moved back to OH in 2006. Yea, his family roots are OH.

His Mom lived in Silver Spring and his Dad lived in Ohio.

To my knowledge he'd spend summers and visit his Dad in Ohio and lived the rest of the time in Silver Spring.

Yea, his childhood was split between both locations:

"Chappelle’s childhood was split between Silver Spring, Maryland, where his mother taught at various local colleges and universities, and Yellow Springs, Ohio, where his father taught at Antioch University. He started performing stand-up comedy in the Washington area at age 14, and, after graduating from the distinguished Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington in 1991, he moved to New York City to pursue comedy full-time."

Damn! I am almost sad I came on BGOL just now and saw this post. ALMOST. Dave is one of the all time great comedians but he don't know S---T about politics. This is the second time he's connected himself to some right leaning facist type. Remember when Dump won he was on SNL talking about that 'give the man a chance' crap. But he did rebound nicely after that. But now this?? Once I can excuse. Twice will have me wondering out loud if you fake.

Boy gonna learn not to bite the hand that feeds you.....BLACK FOLKS are the reason why he has those hundreds of millions. (If those millions are real)

Black folks didn’t write him a $60 million dollar check. The Jews from Netflix did. Just like his friend Kanye, maybe he feels this relationship has be all that it can be.
