This is the gift and the curse of greatness. Dave feels connected with Elon because Elon is great at what he does. It is almost impossible to be great and not feel like you are special. You begin to feel like you should be praised and admired for who you are not just for what you do. You believe your greatness comes from who you are.

It's seems like it's almost impossible for the public not to conflate the two so that's why our greats always conflate the two.
