Dave Chappelle– “Black Lives Matter is the Worst Slogan I’ve Ever Heard”

It's like some BGOLers *want* to find a reason to shit on Dave Chappelle and are like "fuck common logic". A full hour plus long COMEDY show and y'all don't think Roger Friedman's cherry-picked headline was intentional? His proud "claim to fame" is that he "single-handedly took down Michael Jackson". WAKE THE FUCK UP!

Once again, before attacking Dave I *STRONGLY* suggest you consider the "source" - just take 30 seconds to look at his wiki page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Friedman

amd_roger_friedman.jpg

Friedman worked for Fox News as a journalist for ten years, starting Fox News's website and creating the popular Fox411 column. Among his many successes was his coverage of Michael Jackson's child molestation and conspiracy trial in 2005.

In April 2009, Friedman was fired by Foxnews.com after he reviewed the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine based on viewing a bootlegged copy of the movie online. In June 2009, Friedman filed a lawsuit against Fox News Network L.L.C., NewsCorp America, Twentieth Century Fox, and Rupert Murdoch, claiming wrongful termination, tortious interference with his employment contract, and defamation based on statements Fox News and 20th Century Fox made after his firing.

Friedman joined The Hollywood Reporter as a senior correspondent in May 2009. He was fired in March 2010. He started the Showbiz 411 column during his time at The Hollywood Reporter. The website has become independent since he was fired. Friedman regularly writes about Michael Jackson and complications surrounding his death and estate. Showbiz411 frequently breaks entertainment news stories and is often highlighted on the Drudge Report.

Okay so he boot legged a movie and writes about wacko jacko :dunno: your purnt?what does any of that have to do with the article, i see none of the bullshit you claim in that wiki link. I think we all been fired from at least one job soooooooooooo........... :dunno:

I like David but this the dude that walked away from a contract worth $50+ million? A contract that allowed him to do what he loved....comedy?

David's opinion is just that an opinion nothing more. On this issue I personally question his judgement and integrity. Maybe since he doesn't like the phrase he should come up with a better one to replace the present phrase.

IMO the phrase captured what many people were thinking and feeling. Those killed by the police have no voice. Those families and friends of those victims affected also felt they had no voice. Like it or now Black Lives Matter worked, its stays in the news.

Had the BLM movement been titled "Colored Lives Matter" there wouldn't have been a problem. This same shit happened in the late 60s when the phrase Black Power came to be. White people lost their minds.

There's a lesson here we can use. Since whites can't seem to hear or notice our cries, next time we need something done make sure we add "black" to the title. Black People United watch whites react then try and shut it down. Why? Because whites fear the word black.

David is one of those with an actual voice that would get attention, if he were to use it in a constructive manner. I expect better from him.

well said.

I don't think some of yall read the OP. Dave saying BLM is a bad slogan, that they should have chosen something like "enough is enough" is not attacking the organization for protesting or the work as they are doing, it's almost like saying BLM isn't confrontational enough. I'm not sure if that was his exact intent or if he simply means it should be more straight forward, but the info presented doesn't indicate he disparaged them with his jokes.

I agree with you BLM is not the greatest phrase/slogan but it got attention. At that time that is what was needed.

Y'all realize this was a bit in a stand-up act right?

And even if you're too dense to remember that.. this is the same guy who walked away from the most popular sketch show ever and 50+million in cash at the height of his popularity in protest of racism.

Still should be discussed.

The first step in weakening any Black Unity movement is to include other races or religions. Fuck all them muthafucahs. This is not about them climbing on the train without a ticket as usual. This is about BLACK people. And it must remain about Black people. Let other people who aren't getting their young men murdered in the street by so-called public servants start their own movement. All these people calling for inclusion are history-blind. Look at history. They do this every single time. It's not about them and it can never be about them. I don't know the context of Dave's statement but we must be vigilant, we must be unwavering, we cannot accept any variance no matter how small or inconsequential it seems. Yes, I know it's hard but that is the only way. Too many times we begin unified and then scatter because of outside distractions, the low hanging fruit, the shiny object. Awareness, patience, steadfastness.

I been saying that black lives matter is a double entendre that is polarized in the lines of race.
To blacks it can be seen as enough is enough and that we too are people who lives matter...
But to many whites it can be seen as us black being selfish and feeling as if only our opinions and lives matter..
It is a slick slogan designed to be promoted by many pro blacks while cleverly painting us as the villains.

easy
its a bad slogan from a comedic point of view
has nothing to do with what it stands for.
What it stands for us blacks and what it stands for many white people are two different things...
It's almost like, a mostly white, group decides to call themselves the Master Race, explaining that there is only one race, the race of mankind and anyone who realises this is a master of his own mind... Now this may sound good if you live in a vacuum but in the real world no one will buy that bullshit..

Only if we're discussing how silly it is to take a line from a stand up bit out of context and debate it.

Talk about silly, you've locked into the most insignificant fact of this entire discussion. Its not about where the line came from. The line speaks to a present day crisis that's presently affecting the quality of life within black communities.

The fact is David felt what he was saying. Chappelle gave his opinion and regardless of where he was or what he was doing, it still doesn't diminish what he said.

As I said earlier, David is someone with the voice that would get attention. What I'm saying now is he needs to use that voice in a constructive manner. BLM and everything tied to it at best is using poor judgement. Its not a funny issue especially considering what led up to BLM coming into existence.

When white cops stop murdering black people maybe then the silly aspects of what was said will reveal itself to me.

You're missing the point. The entire discussion is insignificant. Its a distraction you fell for the moment you entertained it as worthy of discourse. It was a 10 second bit in a 2 hour comedy standup, purposely taken out of context by a provocateur, with the purpose of causing confusion. You lost the moment you took it as a serious topic of discussion.

Further, Chapelles track record speaks for itself. Dont let some fat jew bigot pull your strings so easily.

What kind of work are they doing? I don't see black on black crime being tackled. Or does black lives matter only matters when other races do blacks wrong?

We? You ain't African or African American. You're "Bi-Racial" by your own classification remember. And fuck off with that what about Black on Black crime fuckery. Crime is crime. We live is segregated communities in the USA. 83% of the crimes committed against white people are done by white people. So go worry about white on white crime fight for you white mamma.

Divide and conquer. Conquer and divide. It frightens me how easily so many of us get distracted by cherry picked shiny objects. Its no wonder why Donald Trump is literally one step away from becoming the next leader of the free world.

Excuse me Fruity Bob, Dave saying "all lives matter" really helps black folk huh? lol proving his mettle would be addressing the truth that black men are hunted down everyday. he was real vocal about not resigning for his show. Use Your Platform to tell the truth and speak on the real.

With that platform you don't shit on a struggle, a movement. You expound on it to bring clarity. He didn't need to say that. I lightweight saw the name as begging but I never said that shit until now. If he wants to focus on the title, he's missing the point. The title was born out of hurt, agnst, anger and sorrow. And this M&M faced ninja wanna shit on it for a punchline. To quote that from the guy who, on a Jew owned networked did a sketch saying ****** more times than in Django, then did ANOTHER coon sketch called The ****** family. Nigga is half baked and all wrong for this shit. He was coon long before he took off for Africa and nobody black second guessed that shit, did we? Not his reason or his method. #FIF

I would tell brother Dave that he should work on getting that movement started. There is no universal solution for our problems.

I don't find the phrase BLM submissive at all. I understand the points others have made elsewhere about it but the fact that it brings out such vitriol in people can be very useful. That someone, black or white, reacts negatively to affirming black life says a lot about their motives and mind set, consciously or unconsciously. People who let a phrase stop them were never going to be committed to your cause anyway.

welp he surely had enough money, and lyrical influence that he could have got in on the ground floor a few years ago to improve on the product.

Slogan is not perfect, but that group is doing WORK. I'm pretty sure they would have an open door policy for him to offer any suggestions on improvement.

Who started and funded it?

I said "they" meaning black lives matter people. I'm not apart of black lives matter. That's what I meant by "they".
