I was listening to an MMA podcast earlier and they were saying that he's probably holding out for the Diaz trilogy fight, or Floyd rematch. Both guaranteed big money earners for all parties involved. Too many risks at 155 and 170lbs collectively (Masvidal, Usman, Felder, Nurmagomedov, Burns, Gaethje) at the moment. They don't have as much name value as Diaz / Mayweather and could all beat him. Plus, the empty venues presently. His events earn big gate $ for the attendance (Vegas, NY, etc), and larger PPV buys (and the buyrate incentive clauses involved).
Can't have the big event feel without the major crowd.

I agree with you at 170, that ass-whipping from Usman may be life-damaging, I can imagine Conor doesn't want any serious punishment (MMA) hence why he's considering some boxing and he's not that old 32 I think.
UFC ass whipping ain't worth it for the pay, boxing is better and he got the attention of Oscar also which is a good thing.
What if Conor leaves MMA and just have a short boxing career and is a decent, not great fighter and can pull 7-10 mil a fight? I think he would like that.

Lots of the media and fans were saying the Fertitta brothers, former matchmaker Joe Silva, and others were smart to depart when they did after the WME-IMG (or Endeavor) buyout some years back at 4 or 4.2 billion. Everyone got paid, but Dana chose to stay on for several more years.

Look at how much better received by fighters, fans & media alike others are with other organizations. Guys like Scott Coker, Chatri Sityodtong, Victor Cui, Shannon Knapp, and more. Fighters speak favourably of them.

Conor would definitely need plenty of favorable match-ups in boxing. Needs to work on his cardio too. It's unfortunate that his fight with Cerrone was so quick (less than 1 minute). I wanted to see that one go 15 - 25 mins. Especially as it doesn't tell you much about either fighter, win or lose, when it ends so quickly (and Cerrone's already on a current losing streak - against tough guys like Gaethje, Ferguson, and recently Pettis).
Not sure how much Oscar would offer him in a co-promotion.
I want to see Masvidal get paid though. He paid his dues for many years before cashing better checks within the past year. All those years with the UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, Bodog, and AFC.
