Developing story........

Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a U.S. Capitol Police officer today after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector, HOTLINE reports... The entire incident is on tape. The cop is pressing charges and the USCP are waiting until Congress adjourns to arrest her.

I like this part of cynthia's statement at Firday's press release:

... this whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and
stopping of ME, A BLACK, FEMALE CONGRESSWOMAN ...

I find i rather peculiar that being this is a "black" site that when the "crew" is so eager to thrash blacks...and so much in the defense of whites :hmm: btw without all the facts, and another thing isn't it innocent until proven guilty Q, you did say you are a lawyer RIGHT?
Ignorance abundant right up in this black board against its own

She has a previous record for the same type of behavior, but at the same time, what was your argument about the cookie jar about again?

Who has the pattern and practice ??? Cynthia or the police ???
Certainly, we have the same complainant as before, but is the
officer involved the "same" officer as before ??? She didn't say
he was.

Does Cynthia experience this and other bothersome conduct
frequently ??? We know about an incident during Clinton's
term -- but we haven't heard about others. If there have
been, I'm sure we're about to find out.

You're right though, I don't have the facts here, but so far I'm not
impressed by whats being said. An officer taps her on the
shoulder, because she ignored calls for her to stop, and she
turns and hits him with her cell phone.

Without knowing more, I can assume she was startled by the
tap and, as a defensive reflex, lashed out, albeit with a cell
phone, to ward off the unknown.

If thats all we have here, why are we breaking out the
racism card??? Not every triffling incident between Black and
white involves racism.

As to whether the officer should have recognized her:

- Isn't that why they have badges? - so that the officers will know
who the 435-some-odd members of Congress are ???

- If the officers had face recognition with all of them, there wouldn't be
much need for the badges, would there???

- Oh, the badges are not because they don't know who they are, they're just
decoration - security issues nothwithstanding;

- Cynthia is so unique that it is impossible for anyone to look-like-her -- so
whenever you see what looks like Cynthia, you know its Cynthia, right ???

- Are any other Black members of Congress having this problem ???
In my opinion, there are number of "Reasonable" reasons why she was stopped
and they doon't involve racism. If Cynthia is/has been the focus of improper
treatment, I would hope as a Congresswoman she would have a better idea
as to how to build a convincing case against the perpetrators.

Given, however, what we understand to be the facts at this point, sounds
silly to me. Maybe thats why Danny and Harry were just there for emotional
support as well.

And, before you start saying stupid shit, I'm waiting for what "they say" are
the facts to come out. In other words, my judgment is reserved, but again,
it looks silly to me. More like making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Your "Judgement" is reserved to this type of pre-ejaculatory commentary

Capital Police Issue Arrest Warrant for Cynthia McKinney
WSBTV | March 29, 2006
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Capitol Hill police plan to issue an arrest warrant today for Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.).

The warrant is related to the incident Wednesday when McKinney allegedly slapped a Capitol Hill police officer.

Charges could range from assault on a police officer, which is a felony carrying a possible five year prison term, to simple assault, which is a misdeamenor.

McKinney has canceled a news conference that she had scheduled for this morning to discuss the incident.

McKinney issued a statement yesterday saying she "deeply regrets" the confrontation with the police officer.

The six-term congresswoman apparently struck a Capitol Police officer when he tried to stop her from entering a House office building without going through a metal detector. Members of Congress wear identifying lapel pins and routinely are waved into buildings without undergoing security checks. The officer apparently did not recognize McKinney, she said in a statement.

Asked on-camera Thursday by Channel 2 Action News whether she intended to apologize, McKinney refused to comment.

"I know that Capitol Hill Police are securing our safety, and I appreciate the work that they do. I have demonstrated my support for them in the past and I continue to support them now," she said in the statement on her Web site.

Democrats and Republicans, meanwhile, engaged in a rhetorical scuffle over the incident.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday labeled it "a mistake, an unfortunate lack of recognition of a member of Congress." She added that the police officer was not at fault.

"I would not make a big deal of this," said Pelosi, D-Calif.

Ron Bonjean, spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., responded: "How many officers would have to be punched before it becomes a big deal?"

The dustup is the latest in a series of tangles for the roughly 1,200-officer Capitol Police department.

The department faces a difficult task -- protecting 535 members of Congress and the vast Capitol complex in an atmosphere thick with politics and privilege.

The safety of its members became a sensitive issue after a gunman in 1998 killed two officers outside the office of then-Republican Whip Tom DeLay of Texas.

More recently, police obeyed an order by an angry House Ways and Means Committee chairman, Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Calif., to remove Democrats from a hearing room. Thomas later tearfully apologized on the House floor.

This year, during President Bush's State of the Union address, police drew criticism for first kicking antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan out of the House gallery, and then for evicting the wife of Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla.

Merle Black, a professor of politics at Emory University, says that while the scuffle was rare for an elected politician, it's unlikely to cost McKinney more than a few votes. Black says McKinney is in damage control -- cutting her losses by not insisting on right or wrong.

It sure as hell doesn't. Her lawyer told her to shut the fuck up but she couldn't help play the race card anyway.

We all know us black folks have such bad atittudes
Especially them uppity ones that talk back when massa
says show yo papers, you damn sure better sho yo
papers

I know ALL about the false accusations that officers
will make against people of color. Whenever it's a case
of "your word against mine" white cops always know
how to steal the pot

I don't doubt for ONE MINUTE that this is all bullshit....
Why would this sista, who spent SO MUCH TIME trying
to get back into this job, do anything to put herself
in jeopardy of losing it?? We should all know better
than that......

Obviously building up a case of popular opinion against
the sista to discredit her. Come on people

*Also take note that the last posted news report carefully balanced the comments/opinion along party lines!? You have to read between the lines.

yo man she is full of sh!t! i used to work up on the Hill and I know the guy that stopped her. She has always had an attitude with everyone...black and white about people around her. This isnt the first time she has had a run in with Capitol Police. I had a run in with her and Im black about year ago. But im sure not much will happen to her since she is a Member of Congress. besides USCP facial recognition "rule" is BS. How the hell can you remember 512 peoples faces that wont take new photos. some of those MFers have photos that are over 20 yrs old. WTF the funny thing about her having a press conference at Howard Univ is that her Chief of Staff made those signs and paid students to hold them for her in the background. Completely BS i tell you.

I used to work on the Hill for USCP, I can tell you that other black members of Congress dont have an issue with being recognized because they have been there for quite some time... about 2 yrs there was in incident with Rep. Albert Wynn but that was due to a new officer working the post when he came entered the building, but was allowed to pass... and nothing became of the situation. Rep. Mckinney has broken rules set my the House Sgt. Of Arms William Livingood since she has been re-elected to office and when someone calls her on her infractions in a professional manner she trips out. Making the situation more inflated than it has to be. She tries to get the officer in trouble, she makes a big scene out of nothing. And when I read the report about her making this a race issue.... I couldnt believe that she is willing to go that far. The white officer in question that stopped her works with a with a black officer and they are buddies. And both men are good friend of mine. His stop was not based on racism.

I'm saying that the article was written with a subtle lean towards making this a political issue. And to answer about the black and proud video reference, no i'm not blind and no i'm not all black either.

I am no fan of McKinney but If she would be more tactful about what she does this would have been kept under wraps. She is only going to have to answer to her district. Let her people judge the truth as is comes out. But because she is so loud with her comments things like this is going to happen.

 Is that it? All them muthafukkkas misuse taxpayers money, each and everday, admit it and they still in office. Let's see what happens to her though. :hmm:

No, NONE of them other bastards MISuse taxpayer money
because that would imply that they actually use it for something
besides themselves, when nothing could be further from the
truth

She is alledgely MISusing funds, but at least she is USING them
at all, instead of fattening their cronies pockets like the rest
of them do

Who can do what with what is the question here. But that is
way beyond the point. I guarantee this story only came out
because of the events of the past week

She is not a good negro. Therefore, she has a bad attitude

Dam its funny how when someone black that is in congress cries wolf we are ready to jump on there side but when Amado Dialo was shot 41 times no black person in congress even her was there to rally for him or stand up for him now if your ass was stopped bye a cop and you got your ass kicked would she stand up for you? :smh:

If you know anything about her father you know where she gets her attitude from. Her father is an ex-cop turned local politician, and plays the race card more than Kobe scores points.

Shuffling the Race Card

Pandagon on America's favorite card game:

I love the myth of the Race Card. According to racists, being non-white is a free pass that will get you any and everything your heart desires. By their reckoning, therefore, black people, who can have everything they could possibly want, live in poverty at higher rates, have less political power, and a shorter life span. But they get to make white people feel guilty, which white racists can only do by being horribly racist assholes and make the rest of us have guilt by association. And that’s the only power the racists apparently want.

McKinney apologizes for scuffle with officer
Grand jury to hear testimony on incident, sources say

Thursday, April 6, 2006; Posted: 2:20 p.m. EDT (18:20 GMT)

ASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Cynthia McKinney apologized on the House floor Thursday for a confrontation with a Capitol Police officer last week.

"There should not have been any physical contact in this incident," McKinney said.

"I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all, and I regret its escalation and I apologize," she said surrounded by colleagues on the House floor.

She said she would vote for a resolution expressing support for the efforts of Capitol Police. (Full story)

McKinney, 51, represents Georgia's 4th Congressional District, a majority-black, Democratic district on the east side of metro Atlanta.

First elected in 1992, she was defeated in a 2002 Democratic primary but made a comeback in 2004, winning her old seat after the candidate who had defeated her two years earlier decided to run for the U.S. Senate.

CNN's Deirdre Walsh and Terry Frieden contributed to this report.

She should have smacked her hair dresser for letting her out of the shop looking like that. That's the real crime here. I'll never understand why blacks women go the hair dresser, come home with a fucked up hair do and expect their man to lie and say the shit looks good. Everytime my girls goes to the hair dresser i get in trouble. if the hair do is nice i keep my lip shut. but she will always ask and i'll always tell the truth, it looks like you just came out of new orleans after hurricane katrina.
