Clippers vs. Grizzlies

cp3 good job.

its not going to get called but i still will mention that blake was holding on the last possession and pushed off as well.

grizzlies what the hell are you going to do for an offense?

tony allen did all he could do on that one. one of those bigs needed to come and block from the weak side. there was no way he could have gotten a good pass off with that amount of time and a score. plus he was off balance too

exactly.. z-bo wasn't even in the game. after the season when everyone is wondering why a coach that just set the franchise record for wins just got fired? (lionel hollins) just look back at these last two games.

If Memphis wants to win this series they have to forcefeed their bigs.

That is literally the only advantage they have on the clippers

1. slow the game down.
2. put both gasol & randolph on the block... do NOT allow them above the FT line.
3. make the clippers take 12+ ft jump shots... and just let crawford throw-up as many as he likes.

do these 3 things and memphis wins easily.

what's killing memphis is conley's & princes INABILITY to make a jumper and randolph's slow ass trying to bully the much more athletic clippers big men.

everybody in the world can see this but the coach

first, zach randolph shouldn't have been in the game on that play.
good call by coach hollins.

second, coach hollins has improved the grizzlies record every season he's been there, and did it while never having the same starting 5 in any season.

M-D,

what's hurting the grizzlies (on O) is their lack of outside threat.

last in the league in 3FGM

last in the league in 3FGA

seventh worst 3FG%

having post offensive threats like marc gasol and zach randolph isn't as effective when the opponent can sag off, pack the paint, and/or double whenever they please

if they want to defeat the clippers, the grizzlies are going to have to pressure the ball and take it out of chris paul's hands.

If Memphis wants to win this series they have to forcefeed their bigs.

trying to force feed the post is why the fakers lost G1. throwing the ball into congestion is never a good idea.

grizzlies have to start marc gasol in the high post, zach randolph in the low post to create some space on the floor.

problem is, nobody outside of keyon dooling is a respectable outside threat to keep the clippers honest.

good call by coach hollins..

so one of the best defensive teams in the league shouldn't play their bigs and let the other team win with a layup

guess what that gets you... bounced out in the first round of the playoffs two years in a row..:smh:

who was zach randolph going to guard?

as it was, you had marc gasol checking matt barnes!

as a grizzlies fan, you should know zach randolph ain't blocking shit anyway.

he had fewer blocked shots than darrell arthur and ed davis.

i know as a fan you're frustrated over the loss, but be reasonable in your criticisms.

so you want to fire a quality Black head coach who has improved his squad every season despite having 1 arm tied behind his back?

:hmm:

Well perhaps I should clarify

I mean that the offense should start there primarily for a reason that you mention from time to time.

Starting the offense from there forces the defense to have to rotate.

It is true that Memphis still has to hit jumpshots but by not going inside out it allows the Clippers defense to better nullify Memphis on the perimeter

for those interested in the discussion over the final play, here is who the clippers put on the floor:

chris paul
chauncey billups
jamal crawford
matt barnes
blake griffin

notice that 4 of the 5 are deep threats and spread the floor.

here is the 5 that the grizzlies put on the floor:

mike conley
tony allen
tayshaun prince
darrell arthur
marc gasol

that's the grizzlies best 5 in that situation, IMO.

you not putting in no zach randolph.

if you want to blame coach hollins' strategy for not doubling chris paul, ok. but his personnel choice was solid.

basic fundamental basketball philosophy. but it's difficult to put that template over the grizzlies.

because as much as people like to point out the size of marc gasol and zach randolph, the unfortunate truth is that the grizzlies are still a very poor shooting team.

10th WORST overall in FG% as a team. :puke:

what's WORSE is that their low post threat (zach randolph) is only a 46% shooter.

:puke:

(see my comments in other thread about marcus camby, rasheed wallace, demarcus cousins)

inside out is a good idea. inside out can still be successful. but FORCING inside out when the opponent D isn't being kept honest is a trap. unfortunately, there are low basketball IQ morons who scream "post, post, post" or suggest "get your ass on the block and don't move till u get it" in spite of what the D shows you.

i agree.

and this is why i'm scratching my head. conley is the most INCONSISTENT point guard in the league shooting the ball... and is too small & too light in the ass to consistently penetrate and challenge the bigs.

they need rudy gay. period.

and why the fuck did they acquire prince... dude can't hit the broad side of a barn with the basketball.

Well 2 reasons

Rudy is inefficient and they did it for money reasons

If the grizzlies had one money shooter they'd be almost impossible to beat.

Just one that you can't leave on the three line...

And defensively they did the best they could do personnel wise

I think you need 2 good shooters on a team to keep defenses honest. The three is too big a weapon these days.

I would post a whole bunch of articles about why this is so and why more teams are emphasizing it going forward

but dudes arent going to read it so I aint even bothering

I think you both are right ...finding two and keeping them would be hard to do. Just look at what okc had to do in the off season

well there is talk that they might look to trade Randolph or Tony Allen.

but I am not one to espouse trading for trading sake. A trade should fulfill a need and Memphis' immediate concern apparently seems to be shedding payroll ahead of the new CBA
