Cam Newton is a Tier 3 QB - barely "startable".

:smh:

In Dallas Dak gets no credit because the same OL that went 4-12 last year is the reason he only has 4 interceptions, meanwhile Cam is out here carrying a group of fucking bums (10 bums a down) and he's the reason for the fall off. Naw, the GM should quit taking DL with their first 3 picks every got damn year and go get him some legitimate weapons. A more reliable guy to stretch the field than Ginn, tackles that can keep him upright, a RB than can stay healthy or stable of guys when one goes down. How about hiring a more innovative OC and a QB coach that's willing to make Cam put in the work to improve his footwork.

No. instead of fixing it just draft taller receivers LOL
No, ignore the 4k yards in the pro style offense.. abandon it. Use him on dive plays on 3rd and 7 from your own 25 yard line.
Don't invest in offensive line.
Wilson bout to play a playoff game this weekend with a dude who never played lt before in his life lol
they traded their best center for jimmy graham like that would help the offense when the line can't protect long enough to get him the ball
teddy had a shitty line and got them to the playoffs last year
bradford had a better line than teddy did and they sitting home but he earned the right to start...after 1 year
could you imagine if bellichek said matt cassell earned the right to start after going 11-5 after brady tore his acl? would never happen
and bradford didn't even have a winning record!

Oh Garcon is gone. I actually think Garcon is one of the most underrated WRs in the league. He might not be a burner but he catches everything, can run routes and dude runs like a fucking big RB after he makes the catch. I actually think in the right offense he can get your 1200 and 8 consistently.
Yea.. and dude is tough as fuck too. He likes the city but hates the QB situation.. so he can be bribed to stay for a big check i think... But hes gone if they dont overpay.

That argument is so crazy to me considering we have a sample from the fucking previous season. It's crazy. Romo went down, plugged in Cassell behind that same offensive line that team wins 4 fucking games all season.

Man. He's probably the hardest WR to tackle in the NFL. I don't mean in terms of actually wrapping him up.. i mean in terms of what it's going to take to get him down. He's going to get all into your chest. It's like tackling a fullback. That dude runs hard as fuck.

Dak is getting royally screwed in MVP consideration... They even try to throw Zeke and the "vote split" fuckery in the mix to excuse the bullshit.. As if we didnt see DMC and Murray look all world behind the same line the last two seasons...

or the fact that they cannot stack the box because dak is too good for them to stack the box and stop the run.

Yep. Anything to take credit from him.

DMC didn't even play in 4 games (cause the coach is an idiot) and still had 1200 yards behind this line.

:smh::smh::smh::smh:

The only team willing to do that is the only team to beat us when it counted. Garrett can't fuck with Spagnuolo who's owned his ass since the 07 playoff game.

So it begins. No words on Palmer and Rivers (who led the NFL is turnovers this year though).

Cam should have kept dabbing and shit...you can't do shit for them to "love" you, boss.

http://www.espn.com/blog/carolina-p...t-a-tier-1-quarterback-and-now-hes-not-tier-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- I argued in August that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton should be a Tier 1 quarterback.

I said it was ridiculous that the reigning NFL MVP, coming off a career-best 35 touchdown passes to go with 10 rushing touchdowns, should be Tier 2 when ESPN released its rankings compiled in a survey of 42 league insiders.

I said the player known for his “Superman'' celebrations should be ranked up there with Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

I reminded that Hall of Famer Steve Young said Newton reached “rare air'' last season.

I was wrong.

Newton proved me wrong with statistically his worst season in most major categories. He proved me wrong by being unable to carry the Panthers, as banged up as they got on the offensive line, and win because of him.

Now I'm not certain if Newton is a Tier 2 quarterback based on the way the tiers are determined.

  • Tier 1: Can carry his team each week. Team wins because of him.

  • Tier 2: Can carry team sometimes but not as consistently.

  • Tier 3: Legit starter but needs heavy run game/defense to win.

  • Tier 4: Might not want this guy starting all 16 games.

  • Tier 5: Do not think this guy should be starting.
Based on this 6-10 season, Newton is closer to a third tier quarterback than a No. 2. With the exception of a Week 2 win against a bad San Francisco 49ers team in which he threw four touchdown passes, it's hard to argue Newton carried the Panthers in a game all season.

San Francisco 49ers team in which he threw four touchdown passes, it's hard to argue Newton carried the Panthers in a game all season.

His three interceptions in a Week 3 loss against the Minnesota Vikings were costly. So were the three, including a pick-6, he threw in Sunday's 17-16 season finale at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He threw two or more touchdowns only four times and had one or fewer 11 times.

His completion percentage dipped to a career-low 52.9 percent and his passer rating fell to a career-low 75.8. He threw only 19 touchdowns, tied for the second fewest of his career.

That's not good enough for Tier 1 or 2.

Newton's not even in the top two in the NFC South, for certain trailing Atlanta Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints.

One could argue he's fallen to No. 4 in the division behind the Bucs' Jameis Winston.

Heck, he has fallen to No. 4.

According to ESPN's Total Quarterback Rating, Ryan was No. 1 in the NFL with a rating of 83.4, Brees No. 6 at 72.1, Winston No. 12 at 64.9 and Newton No. 26 at 53.1.

Even during his MVP season of a year ago Newton (No. 12, 65.5) was third in the division in Total QBR behind Brees (No. 8, 69.9), Ryan (No. 9, 67.2).

Ranking behind them is nothing to be ashamed about, mind you. The South arguably is the top quarterback division in the NFL.

But if you're going to rise from last place in the division back to first as the Panthers aim to do in 2017, Newton has to perform at least at a Tier 2 level. The other quarterbacks will only be more dangerous as their defenses get better.

General manager Dave Gettleman still insists Newton is the player that can lead Carolina to the “Promised Land.'' He referred to the “Chicken Little'' story and said the sky is not falling.

But Newton fell hard this season, enough so that coach Ron Rivera said the first pick of the 2011 draft and the offense around him have to evolve in large part for the long-term health of his quarterback.

Newton finished this season with a sore shoulder that contributed to a dreadful 47.85 passer rating in the final two games. All season he couldn't escape pressure as easily as he has in past years.

Rivera has suggested less read-option and more play action to lessen the pounding on his quarterback, which he reminded isn't as “nimble'' as he approaches 28.

But Newton's threat as a runner was a big reason he was Tier 2 and why I argued he should be Tier 1. The combination of throwing and running made him lethal and harder to defend than arguably any quarterback in the league.

Take away his running, without a major improvement in completion percentage, and he's Tier 3. And Newton's completion percentage never has been stellar with only one in six seasons above 60 percent, that in 2013 when he completed 61.7 percent of his passes.

Brees, by the way, completed 70 percent of his passes this season. Ryan was at 69.9 percent.

So you can see why Newton says he needs a sabbatical, time to get completely away from football to heal physically and mentally from a rough season.

What kind of quarterback he'll be when he returns for the 2017 season remains to be seen.

But I can guarantee he won't be Tier 1.
With Black QBs there's always an excuse. They say the reason Dak is good is because he has a great offensive line and Zeke. However, if he was throwing to trash like Cam Newton and his numbers reflected the trash he's throwing to then the critics will say he's not starting quality.

Honestly these teams are stupid and that's not a diss to Dak.
I'm doubling dez. stacking the box and making terrence williams beat me

fantasy wise he killed me this yr, other qbs sucked too but cam was the 1st qb picked in most of my leagues and didnt even crack top 20 qb

Man fuck these CAC's. Cam had a bad year for him. As an Atlanta fan, I have watched bum ass Matt Ryan have 3 bad seasons prior to this one, and he never was considered a tier 3 qb. Cam has a top flight tight end and a bunch of average receivers. He has no o-line, no running backs...... Black QB's have to do more with less. Kap balled out with garbage, he gets no credit. Tyrod played better than most of the qb's in the league who are not top tier, and Buffalo is trying to get rid of him. Cam had a bad year, it happens. He is still one of the top 5-10 qb's in the league.

Like I was telling that dumb ass above, Cam was their QB and their RB. You can't run an offense with your QB having 300 fewer yards than your top RB. They run him way too much... Like straight up designed runs between the tackles :smh:

If they don't draft at least two OLs with their first 4 picks, they still haven't figured it out.

Tripped me out watching him play. He was literally handing the ball off to himself and getting killed. That game he got a con concussion made no damn sense.

Cam Newton is definitely better than plenty of starting quarterbacks

Soon-to-be-free-agent quarterback Cam Newton recently declared that there aren’t 32 quarterbacks better than him. He’s right.

On Tuesday’s PFT Live, Simms and I went through all 32 teams and identified several starting (for now) quarterbacks who aren’t as good, in our view, as Newton.

Check out the attached video for the full discussion. Or keep reading. (Or both.)

This isn’t about potential destinations or fit or whatever. It’s a simple yes-or-no, up-or-down look at whether Newton is better or not better than the quarterback in question.

Newton is better than, in our view: Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham, Jaguars quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Mike Glennon, Broncos quarterback Drew Lock, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, Washington quarterbacks Alex Smith and Taylor Heinicke (and Kyle Allen, whom we didn’t specifically mention), Bears quarterbacks Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky, Lions quarterback Jared Goff, Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

We flagged two as toss-ups: Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Here’s the part where I invite you to agree or disagree in the comments. Here’s the part where I acknowledge that you need no express invitation to do that.
