For former LSU cornerback Donte Jackson, let's hope what happened can be written off as "rookie mistake" for the first-year player of the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

Jackson, also a former Riverdale High standout, was called out Sunday on Twitter by a waiter at a New Orleans restaurant after Jackson tipped him just $5 on a $120 bill.

The waiter tweeted, "You can't even tip 10%. I just wanna know if my service was bad honestly. You childish for the smiley faces too."

Jackson, who signed a 4-year, $4.8 million deal, tweeted back a reaction that he should have let somebody read before he hit the send button.

He tweeted, "You got 5 more dollars then you had be grateful."

The Tweet has apparently been removed from Jackson's Twitter feed.

Apparently, not being a generous or even fair tipper is part of Jackson's DNA, according to one of his tweets from June.

Jackson, for the most part, got grilled on Twitter for being cheap.

Cornell Jackson, who hasn't been confirmed as a family member, came to Donte Jackson's defense.

Louisiana is doesn't require that servers be paid minimum wage regardless of tips. Tipped employees in Louisiana are paid $2.13 an hour and are expected to make up that income in tips.

Federal labor laws supposedly require the employer to make up for the difference between tip income and the $7.25 federal minimum wage. But it rarely happens.

Service industry workers have it hard but there is something not right about calling somebody out on twitter for getting a small tip, you are one of countless service workers in the Greater New Orleans area and you ain't the only one to get stiffed and you only made yourself look even worse.

No way would I go to that place now, I personally wonder about the handling of the food now.

Nah gotta call it like I see it. The ball player is wrong in this instance, if everything was good with service that is.

And I know this is an unpopular opinion here on BGOL smh. But fuck it lol

I gotta ask, would you be ok if a service worker looked you up on twitter and called you on social media for a small tip?

We look past that because Donte' Jackson is an athlete but if he was just regularl 9 to 5 Donte' who wanted to eat out or go on a date or something?

i've learned that if you treat service people right, especially on the first encounter you will be remembered and treated even better on subsequent encounters
hell if i can't afford a good tip i'm not doing it

Dude should've tipped better, but fuck that CAC for calling him out. Most places will fire you for doing that.

Did the waiter get fired? Anybody know the name of the restaurant?

The good ol’ US of A is basically the only country in the first world where service workers don’t receive a decent wage from the business they work for and have to rely on the generosity of others. I tip generously—-when I like you. If I don’t appreciate the service—-I don’t tip!!! Pick a different job or get a second one if you want to make more money.

The waiter is male, yall.

And I'm curious as to this waiter's opinions of fast food workers who want $15 an hour.

No reason to leave that kind of tip unless the server was just a complete and utter asshole and then I wouldn't be leaving shit. Dude seems to get off on being cheap, but it ain't about that. We know waiters make less than minimum because they get tips so at the bare minimum you should be tipping 10% even it was so-so service. Unless I hear dude respond with some type of fucked up service from that waiter, he played himself. Lets not start getting butthurt about people getting exposed on social media, that's just a way of life now. If people get fired for someone else putting them on blast on social media cause they did some fucked up shit then a public figure like a football player should've known. Just my 2 cents.

But he wasn't an average joe. Plus he was being an asshole with adding the smiley face to the low tip. . His response didn't indicate bad service, so why was he being a dick in the first place?

if you know you work off of your tips,
then your service should be off the CHAIN!
with that being said,
I'm not SHAQ!
Shaq be asking mofos how much should they get
LOLOL

keep your money rook,
they love you today, rich!

Nobody on this board was in the restaurant when he was eating, so none of us can really say why he acted that way.

I’m a shitty tipper. Very shitty.

And it’s not personal. I’m just a cheap person.

Every cent matters to me.

You not one of these people that put change on the table are you? I've been with people before that have done that and I'm like..."just dont leave a tip"..lol
