The waiter was wrong for putting the owner in a compromising position between the team and his/her business. Honestly, he's lucky to get anything for a pick up order. Most don't tip anything
for that.
Personally, if I'm dining in, I have no problem tipping about 20% for ok/decent service and tip like 50% or more for great service. I had this younger waitress busting her ass quickly taking/moving orders to a number of tables while keeping a pretty smile on her face and making the other waitresses look a bit handicapped compared to her energy. I was impressed. Gave her a nice tip for that alone.

I consider myself a good tipper (subconsciously trying to dispel the stereotype that we dont til well)
but its money and he doesn't owe you a tip. sucks for the waiter but that's the industry he is in
also we have NO IDEA about the QUALITY of the service the young man received...
