The waiter was wrong for putting the owner in a compromising position between the team and his/her business. Honestly, he's lucky to get anything for a pick up order. Most don't tip anything
for that.

Personally, if I'm dining in, I have no problem tipping about 20% for ok/decent service and tip like 50% or more for great service. I had this younger waitress busting her ass quickly taking/moving orders to a number of tables while keeping a pretty smile on her face and making the other waitresses look a bit handicapped compared to her energy. I was impressed. Gave her a nice tip for that alone.

Then I would speak specifically about how entitled servers shouldn't get a good tip JUST because they're servers and speak about how his service was subpar.

THEN I would pose the question to the restaurant about how they feel about their servers and their policy regarding privacy of their patrons.

I hear you. Medium well is definite improvement over well done. I usually go with Medium because if the steak is a good piece of meat it should be juicy have enough flavor that I don't need to add anything to it. If I have to ask for A1 that shit is probably dry and to overcooked for me.

I don't think I'm going to ever try for medium rare or rare though. There's too much risk that they didn't let it stand at the required temperature for long enough to ensure that all nasty microorganism are killed.

side note any kind of ground meat needs to be served at medium well or higher due to higher chance of nasties being introduced during the grinding process

I'm not a difficult customer experience either

I'm not changing orders mid cook I'm not adding tons of extra I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary

If the service is good I tip good

If the service is trash I'm not tipping good it's easy


The person who gets my order right and is attentive but not annoying gets the same tip as the server who gets my drink wrong forgets I ordered food as I watch tables next to me get theirs then has to make it over again cause it got cold leaves us sitting there with dirty plates and doesn't offer to refill ask us if we need anything and brings us the check after the 3rd pass and we have to hail them like a cab?
