If you the Lakers yeah fuck the picks but that’s the only way to get better is with cheap assets and hitting on those picks. Warriors for the most part are homegrown except KD and Iggy. If you can get a superstar then that’s the way to go but you have to be one of the teams they want to play for.

The Pelicans have assets and can use it on potential. They could bring him along slowly. I do agree you can trade down to get him though.
Talent in the front office comes into play. You've got to fill your roster with quality role players. You can get cheap assets in terms of vets, but your front office gotta identify them. You can get quality second round guys too. A lot of the older players get frowned upon, but end up having nice careers long term.

People don't fully appreciate what happened yet. Durant was likely going to end his career as a top 10 player of all-time. They ruined him letting him go out there on an injured "calf". No one comes back the same from an achilles injury and this guy was just going into his prime. We've never seem a player like Durant and we might not seem him again.. a 7 footer that can shoot from anywhere but handle the rock like a PG + defend the perimeter.
It's hard for me to understand Melo not having a place at all in the NBA.
