Perhaps we are looking at it from different points if view.
If by "carried the film" you mean help sell it, then yes.
However Cranston did not carry the movie in that his character was not all that important to the story, especially with having him die within the first 20 minutes.
They used Cranston in the commercials to sell the film same as they used Robert Downey Jr. in Spider-Man Homecoming because Iron Man was in all the trailers (even in scenes that never made it in the film).
My understanding of "carrying the film" is having those characters these actors played being central the story and plot.
In that sense, Downey Jr. and Cranston did not carry those films. They were certainly used to sell the films though.
Cranston was gone in Godzilla before the movie even had a chance to get into motion.
Sidenote, Godzilla 2014 was one disappointing ass film.

They could have saved a ton of money doing this for a fuckin third of the movie. Who signed off on that CG mouth? Did the deadline pass?
Blame the Warner executive that rushed the movie so he can get his bonus before AT&T bought Warner.....
They could of easily had Superman as the villian for Justice League 2 or Man of Steel 2...but they fucked it up.
Your commentary on the uses of Cranston and Downey in the commercials for their respective movies is on-point. Past that, we simply have differing definitions on what 'carrying a film' means. What you consider 'carrying the film' to me is 'forwarding the plot '. It might seem like I'm splitting hairs here, but it does make a difference: one takes place after the movie, whereas one takes place within the movie. If we use your definition, then everything said by you makes sense.
Using my definition, Cranston carries the film by being the best actor, talentwise. The performance we all remember from the film, after the fact.
EDIT: are you going to give the next few films in this world a chance? Next up will be their intro to Rodan, Ghidorah, Mothra, etc.
Eventually, they'll tie in the Kong from the most recent movie.

I'll check damn near any Godzilla film, I'm a huge fan of the series. Hoping the intro of Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah makes up for the first.

Black Panther wasn't a Known commodity ... in the Marvel verse.. Yet Marvel took a chance on Minor character and Turned the King into a Cultural event.

Dude... they still have three other movies coming out.. In their franchise. You don’t do this type of switch while in the middle of the franchise. Again it would be a disservice to Michael B.
His version of Johnny storm was a complete reboot. It was separate from the previous films.. If and I mean if micheal b was hired... his movie would likely have to be added as either part of this universe or some else world story like the two joker movies. The reason that it would have be part of the Dv universe is that we know we have another Wonder Woman and a Shazam coming out.. If Wonder Woman does numbers.... . DC will drop another Sequel for it... same thing for Aquaman. They want to Add Shazam into the untitled Black Adam movie.. and they still talk about Flash... All of these movies are in the same universe.
How are you going to add Michael B... without straight up insulting your audience.

But you can do that if you... have him play another version of Superman. He doesn’t have to be Clark Kent to be Superman. There are tons of Supermen. Hell... you could actually.. make a legit argument for him being Superboy. Since Lex took some of his DNA. Superboy would work here.

I'm looking at in the same sense as black women supporting black panther. They didn't know shit about him other than that he's black. So they saw it on the strength of that. Let us try to rally and come together for a movie where a black actor known for dating white women, is saving a white women... Not gonna happen. It won't do half as good as BP. Only people that will go see it is black men.

i go see all comic book movies. all of them. even when i hear they are bad. paid full price for the last Fantastic Four. I am done with DC. fck them. for real. I am done and will not just blindly go to support the comic genre if this is true. The have ruined everything.
