Board and Server update coming - details inside - ongoing

Using vbulletin is a non starter, we tried that already and it was a miserable failure. The main reason it took
so long to make these changes is because I wanted to get away from Vbulletin, they came under new ownership
about 4-5 years ago and it has been all down hill since then. The Xenforo team are the original Vbulletin coders.

A cloud solution would not work for BGOL, we are not what we use to be but it still takes a lot of computing
power to run this board, we are currently running on 2 servers, we have the main sever and a database server. I
am going to upgrade both servers. It will cost more, but prices have dropped over the years. Plus there is
nothing magic about the cloud, the cloud is nothing more than a server, but it probably is a shared server which is a definite no go.

Lastly my server host is an Adult hosting company, they will not shut me down until they give me every chance
in the world to remove any objectionable content or copyright violations. This is huge.

They are using the same vBulletin, it's just that it's probably a plug in and the latest version 5 of vBulletin.

My suggestion, least of headaches is to move this server to their vBulletin Cloud feature.

It would upgrade this from 3.8.5 to version 5, they would host it within their cloud and would be a lot simpler/cheaper than your own paid server monthly and would be a lot more responsive as it's in the cloud being accessed anywhere globally.

::two cents::

If you move this to Xenforo, you're gonna be met with a flurry of whining ass mofo's complaining about the change and where is this and that. Upgrading to vBulletin, having them do it into the cloud to me seems simplest. Can test it on a backend link prior to releasing it to the link for the actual forum, then just switch the redirection back to the main board.

I get that as far as move to vBulletin upgrade, but then the question is how that site Vixens handling their load. And I get the VPS solution over the cloud, just thought the cloud would serve more of a load balanced solution. But you know what you're doing, so carry on...

But isn't that racist? :smh:
Can whiteness be confirmed as well?

Bgol should be a equal opportunity site and should be free of charge and racism for all races, creeds, cultures, posters and trolls.

Share the love and stop the hate.

Your whiteness has already been confirmed :yes::lol::yes:

You should have bought that Cray desktop I suggested a few years back but I think you needed gov't clearance.

I prefer Blunt over Kogalee. At least Blunt offered good movie picks. Kogalee is worst than MCBrasil.

I can always change my ip and convert to a TOR. Dumb ass. :smh:
I am still here because I haven't broken any rules. I do have 129 free screen names sir. :hmm:
Whiten up and Stop being so damned butthurt over a troll. :D

Why don't you quit bitching and just put me on ignore? Do I really have THAT much control over you? Damn! :smh:

How about you ban redmerchants ip, that fag posted a tranny yesterday and got no ban.

Today he post vids of a guy havin his ass licked. And puts it in the thread title.

I know you make money off this faggot, if you want money from faggots just make a gay forum for them.

I already have 5+ subscriptions and 125 FREE screen names. So it wouldn't make business sense.
And what you are suggesting is an unethical business practice and would violate accounting, business law, contract law and international law. I would have to get interpol involved if this happened. Plus there is always the TOR I can use in case of an IP ban. :hmm:

Even if they ban my KNOWN screen names, I am here lurking and posting under many other screen names. Some of them known trolls. The cokely character is just my favorite to use and troll under. If you think that is the only one i have then you are a moron.

I ain't going no where mane! :D

Just put me on ignore and call it a day. Idiot. :hmm:

:smh::puke::smh::puke:

I don't normally agree with SamSnitch but shit like that NEEDS to be banned! :smh:

I do post stupid shit from time to time but I don't post no damned faggotry!

Even SamSimp needs to be "banned" for suggesting the promotion of faggotry. :smh:

I have a suggestion too. Instead of banning people, just simply take away access to post for a time, while they can still view the main board. This way you can still make money off the shit without them posting if they break certain rules. This place would be pretty damned boring if not for the trolls, idiots, fools, joke posters, roasts, beefs, and ocks.

But just outright banning people where they can't view the main board at all is pretty much pointless, it is throwing away money.

Just use the following policy. It works just the same without throwing a way $$$

This way they can be voted to have their posting privileges took away for a time and they can still be charged.

When I buy bgol, this will be my policy on banning. Banning would mean means that while you can still view all boards if you are a paying member, but just can't post. It's just matter of making changes to some programming code.

These goddam crybaby ass faggots and fuckboys begging for trolls to be banned, are pathetic as hell, and their cries are borderline moist. If you don't like a certain poster, that is what the "ignore" feature is for.

All these cokely haters, I can't stand their asses either, but you don't see me calling for them to be banned and shit. damn! :smh:

I've already told you what to do. The upgrade is going to fall flat on it's face as:

1) you still have single points of failure.
2) you running a PHP based forum and are most likely going to be CPU bound as your are trying to scale vertically instead of horizontally.

vertically = more powerful machine
horizontally = multiple cheaper and less powerful virtual machines that can be more powerful the more expensive single one

The guys at MojoHost can get this setup for you if you ask. I'm pretty sure someone there has read Scaling PHP.

I don't even know if this would be an option, but it might be a possible solution for the blatant trolls. If reputation points are going to be implemented, allow members to set an "auto ignore" threshold for posters with a certain amount of negative reputation points. Something to the effect of "Ignore posters with 'x' number of negative reputation points." This would effectively allow the board to vote someone off the board while still allowing the would be troll to participate on the board in a limited capacity.

I think he already made up his mind.

This thread is just to justify the increase in prices coming so it's not a sticker shock

**Update**

I spoke with my host today, told him what I'm trying to accomplish, and the problems I need solved.
He already has and idea what he thinks will work best, but wants to confer with a few people then
get back with me next week.

I'm still going to make the move in the 30 day time frame, I along with the Mods need time to learn
the Admin section, features etc.

Thanks :shades:
