Black Hair Can Grow- Tips and Inspiration

:lol::lol::lol:

No, I have normal mammary glands. Women who get the manly look usually have...um...help. I would never want my bf to get that low because it messes up your hormones. I lift heavy so my chest as a whole is in good shape.

So, any tips for the fellas? Tips on growing and maintaining beards? Cutting your own hair? Anything? :dunno::lol::dunno:

Why yes, I am a man. I cut my own hair too. I guess the only thing I can add right now is the fact that I use...

Yeah. My beard won't connect. It stops at a certain point on each side of my face. Because of that I just rock a goatee. Like you if I had to choose, I'd keep this full head of hair I have though...:yes::lol:

Bentonite Clay!!

Bought some yesterday and tried it. I mixed it with ACV and water. I didn't know that they also have one for an internal cleanse. Anyway, it pretty much did everything that everyone has said it does. I let it sit for an hour. I was able to pull the comb all the way through my head without numerous stops along the way. Then I used a mix of shea butter and coconut oil and twisted it [my hair] up.

Anyway, I was impressed and will probably do it twice each month as recommended. It is messy but it rinses clean which was a shock. It's also a very good value. I got 5 pounds for $10.

Damn, it's like that? Not even a PG version of your thoughts?

:( Aww man. I hope you change your mind.

-Facts to think about Before I start-

-Before a black girl or a girl with kinky hair turn 5 years old, her hair is at shoulder length- (Then mother put a perm into her hair...cycle starts:angry:)

-If you look at black women or men with locs, ask them how long it took them to grow their hair (lower back). 9 times out of 10, it will be 4-7 years...

-When black men grow their hair to have cornrows, it takes about one year to grow and the length will be to the middle of the neck. (This is where the myth was created "boy's hair grows faster than girls"....)

-hair grows on an average of about 1/2 an inch a month. The speed that hair grows is around 1.25 centimeters or 0.5 inches per month. That’s approximately 15 centimeters or 6 inches per year....how can you grow your hair, if you're always cutting split ends because of the damage through the perm:confused:

-Split ends- There are different causes for split ends and there isn't much you can do to repair your damaged hair once you have them. In the past people have been trying to cure split ends by burning the ends of the hair so that they would seal. No need to say that this was not a solution for the problem and that it made the situation worse than before.

Split ends can not be repaired. The only efficient way to get rid of split ends is to have them chopped off. Avoid recurence by having a trim about every six weeks. Do not ingnore your split ends! The longer you leave them the further they will climb up the hair shaft. Finally a drastic (dramatic?) haircut would be unavoidable

There are a few products that will temporarily cure your split ends by sealing and coating the ends of the hair. As soon as the hair is being washed or brushed though the split ends re-appear. Intensive conditioning treatments might help to reconstruct the hair shaft, but again this will only be a temporarily solution.

The only real solution for split ends is simply avoiding them. Some people's hair will be splitting a lot faster than other's. It is a fact that dry hair will split faster(Always keep your hair moisturize). It is however not only your hair type that makes you vulnerable for split ends. Also how you take care of your hair is very important.

Coloring and perms make hair weak and vulnerable for split ends. This type of hair needs extra care and should be treated with the appropiate products. Use a lot of conditioner and comb your hair through before rinsing it out

Heated appliances can make hair become dry and finally it splits. Try to avoid using heated hair appliances as much as possible! If you are using them anyway, make sure to protect your precious locks with a potective product.

Towel drying is not good if you want to avoid splitting hair. You should blot your hair and then carefully comb it through with a wide toothed comb. Avoid using a hair dryer as much as possible since the heat won't do any good to your hair.

Elastic bands and all sorts of other hair accessories can damage your hair. Avoid using uncovered elastic bands since these often pull out hair when being removed. Other accessories will damage or weaken the ends of the hair.

And last but not least: Your health will affect your hair. If you have a dry scalp your hair will split faster because there is not enough lubrication on the hair follicle. Dull hair caused by a low fat diet will also be more vulnerable

^^^ Great tips and for clarification purposes. There is a difference between relaxers and perms. In this case, relaxer would have been the most appropriate term. Though both can cause damage, black women tend to use relaxers as it "relaxes" or straighten the hair, perms are typically used by caucasians to make the hair curly.

A perm, a service normally geared to caucasians or people with straight hair wanting to go curly. A the perming process includes roding the hair with perm rods, and applying a perm solution(not pleasently scented), which softens and swells the hair shaft. That sits and processes for about 20 min (time may vary per individual),then the rods are thoroughly rinsed and patted dry. Then the neutralizing solution, which contracts the hair shaft to lock in the curl in to permanently mimic the shape of the rod that it is wrapped around, is applied and allowed about 5-10 min to process. The rods are removed and rinsed and you are left with a beautiful curly hair pattern. That is a perm.

Accessories

One of the best things about being natural is accessorizing. I think well groomed eyebrows and a great pair of earrings go a long way. Here are some websites that offer chic and trendy accessories @ cheap prices.

Product Line Review: Qhemet Biologics

I love this product line. My favorite is the burdock root butter cream. It is especially great for fine-haired curlies like myself. Here are some video reviews of the product line.

Product Line Review: AfroVeda

I just found out about this product line a few weeks ago. I ordered all of the hair butters and so far my hair likes them all!!. I will say that the shea-amla whipped butter cream is probably better for those naturals with thicker/coarser hair. This is also one of the most inexpensive natural product lines I've come across. The ingredients are great though the shipping takes a little while because everything is made to order. But it's worth the wait.

Product Line Review: Oyin Handmade

This seems to be a favorite of naturals. I can't say that it is one of mine. I haven't used it in a couple of years, but I will say the Honey Hemp conditioner (great scent) and Juices and Berries are the shit....from what I remember...Whenever I used the HHC I had to use a lot, but it made my curls pop. I also used it as a leave in as well. This line also has products for skin, bath and body.

Good luck with your hair ladies. I know how important that is to any woman. And speaking from a man's perspective two things(aesthetically speaking) turn me on the most when I first meet a woman. A nice shape and long flowing natural hair.
