Dory joined the billion dollar club....$1,001,480,568

:money:

It'll make its money via the academic circuit but to think the movie was going to crush in theaters is, to be diplomatic, slightly unrealistic.

*two cents *

Crush? No. But it should've done far better. It had to combat the bad press.....the narrative wasn't Nat Turner. It became Nate Parker's story. That shouldn't have happened. It never happens with anyone else.

The most symbolic shit to me was how many parallel's between today and back then there were. The biggest one is the poster with the american flag around his neck like a noose......they attempted to hang Nate Parker....maybe not in the general sense like we're accustom to seeing but they definitely did it and did it soon as the buzz for this came out. And it was everyone from every race.....

Da fuck? We don't need white people to see shit. Stop adding white people in every fucking equation.

We don't "need" it but he's right. This film wasn't going to do good with simply just black people seeing it. Blacks went out and saw it. No one else did which is what the problem was.

That's not what I'm saying.

What I'm saying is that for a black movie to rank high revenue numbers... white people have to like it and view it.

We only make up 10 to 15 percent of the American population.

I saw it and know quite a few other people that saw it. The reality is that black folks can't really carry a movie to make it a box office smash. Add to that the subject matter, bad press, protests, the number of theaters it is in(2105 compared to 3,058 for that Sully movie). I saw it last night and there were only about 40 people in there(my date and I were the only black folks).

It will get better. Funny we live under white supremacy and constant brainwashing. We cannot expect the numbers to match other films. The local BLM in my area told everyone they not going to see it because they read the transcripts of Nate Parker case. I'm going to see it with a few brothers. We can't measure are success by European standards. Hollywood has done everything they can to sabotage this film.

But compare it to the other first week movies though.

And factor in the hurricane .

It actually did well and the long weekend isn't over plus we need to see if it has legs

Go look at the other MAJOR RELEASES...

masterminds ain't did nothing...

deepwater, voiceless... nothing

Couple of these movies 4 weeks in and ain't make they money back yet.

So I ain't tripping.

People are so stupid. What did they see in those transcripts that proved he was guilty?

Agreed. And my point is that a movie has to have black and white support in order for it to be Blockbuster Hit.
Unlike Birth of a Nation that has just black support.

Plus a lot of movies theaters refuse to show Birth of a Nation also.
Why would they refuse to show it?

A bunch of feminist bullshit. They keep saying he got off on a technicality but when you press them about what technicality they ain't got the answers. They just get mad and block you, accuse you of supporting "rape culture " or just not reply back.
I always wondered how black women back in the 60s/70s fell into this whole feminism shit with white bitches to shit on Black men and now I understand.

I don't think people were expecting $20-30M, but $7 opening weekend? I think 10-15 was the average expectation. I haven't seen it yet, but I did purchase a ticket at AMC and bought the soundtrack...sad how little support it got.

That's my point in the other thread. All blacks don't have to like the movie however the criticisms I've seen are on some feminist nonsense and folk are NOW tired of seeing slave movies, but was happy for the Roots remake or 12 Years etc...

If you get $15 million for the weekend, that's not bad.

Red Tails tapped out at $50 million.
