Thousands of young people cycled alongside police officers to protest against London’s knife violence.
As many as 4,000 youngsters rode on BMXs from London Bridge to Oxford Street on Saturday as part of the #BikesUpKnivesDown campaign.
The BikeStormz event came as more than 50 people have been killed in the capital this year – including nine this past week.
The event was organised by 19-year-old bike enthusiast Jake100 and Mac – who said it was the biggest turn out since the movement started in 2014.

Mac told the Independent: ‘We want people to put the guns down, put the knives down and for everyone to love their life, live their life and be peaceful and respectful.

‘Never leave your house with a bad intention.’
The movement has been supported by the Metropolitan Police and the London Mayor’s Office.

Ruby Bailey, 13, from the Street Elitez bike community said: ‘This is the big ride of the year.

‘We’re not here to cause trouble. Everyone thinks we are, but we’re not. Some of the people here used to be in involved in knife crime, but since they got on their bikes, they switched their lives around and stopped using knives.’

The event was heavily supported online, with one person writing on Twitter: ‘Massive respect to the young Londoners organising the cycle demo on Tooley St, even spotted some parents there with their bikes supporting their kids.

UK stabbing rates remind me of 80's and 90's NYC stab rates. I still carry a knife to this day but it's been a life time since I jooked or sliced a fucka. Guns were too damn loud and expensive.

Knife crime in Britain is on the rise
How many stabbings took place in London and other regions in the UK over the last year?
At least 35 people have been fatally stabbed in London since the beginning of the year.

Met Police records show 37, 443 recorded knife offences and 6,694 recorded gun offences across the UK in the year up to September 2017.

In London, the problem was even more pronounced than the rest of the country, with 12,980 knife crimes taking place in the capital - 2,452 more than the equivalent year.

Four teenagers were stabbed to death in London on New Year's Eve alone, and 22 were killed in March - meaning the capital now has a higher murder rate than New York

The popular US city had a mere 21 killings in comparison.

Commander Neil Jerome of the Met's territorial policing command condemned the crimes, saying the four families had lost a loved one to "senseless violence and the callous use of knives as lethal weapons".

A shocking night of violence took place on February 20, 2018, with six people reportedly stabbed in North London.

Russell Jones, 23, became the eighth person to die in a week after being ambushed outside shops near Ponders End station in Enfield on Saturday, March 17.

On 29 March a 23-year-old man died in hospital from stab wounds after being attacked and left for dead in Greenwich, South East London.

On April 4 a man in his 20s was stabbed to death in Hackney, East London. He was the 13th person to die in London in just 22 days.

While there are currently no fatalities from today (Thursday, April 5), there have been a total of six knife attacks across Walthamstow, Mile End and East India Docks.

On Saturday, April 7, a woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing a man outside Highbury and Islington station.

Are stabbings on the rise?
Knife crime across the country has risen by a staggering 21 per cent in the 12 months to September 2017, according to quarterly figures released by the Office of National Statistics.

Stabbings in London are at their highest level in six years, with a 23 per cent rise from the previous year.

Overall, crime had continued to fall in England and Wales, consistent with the general trend since the mid-1990s.

What has the Mayor of London said about it all?
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “These statistics show the terrible repercussions around the country of a Government that has been desperately weak on crime for the last eight years, as well as weak on the causes of crime.

“The most violent crimes, including knife crime, are rising across England & Wales. This is clearly a national problem that requires national solutions.

"The Government must urgently increase funding for the police as well as restoring funding for the services that provide alternative paths away from crime, such as youth services, education, probation and mental health services.”

Replace Mayor of London... with POTUS. This is his response to everything...blame the guy before me, and the guy before him for what's going on in my tenure.

coming to the US, soon as their coveted gun control passes!!! human beings will always find away to kill each other! after they ban knives and acids.....they will start killing each other with spoons and forks!!!
Bats, crowbars, can't 4get my favorite fire...

1 thing you can say with knife crimes the intended target gets hit and not no innocent bystanders

What kind? Pics?

Nothing big like my old 007 or ratchet. 3" folded is just fine. Peel and orange from time to time with it as it's primary use is for peeling fruit.

Man this ameriKKKa where even cow shit has been used for bombing.

I always have a knife or utility tool on me personally. If it ain't knives, it'll be sharpened popsicle sticks.

When I moved to Oakland in 2008 there was 115 murders in a city of around 400,000 people.

If this London knifing trend continues you'll see about the same number of murders in a city 20 times as big.

If anything this is is an argument FOR gun control, not against it.

Its strange out here you have these lil estate youts that would stick you for no reason then some wannabes who are looking for stripes pulling out zombie knives. I had a co-worker get jumped for no reason they threw his bike and bag into a canal. Crakka had heart tho he held on to one of those lil fuckers until the police came. crakka looked like the white mitch green after fighting tyson.

In high school, chicks used razor blades, some made sure the were rusty so the wound would be infected or take longer to heal.
chicks were scarred for life.
I remember people having razor blades in their mouths, it amazes how they never got cut in the mouth.

No guns = box cutters, kitchen knife, pocket knife, bats with sharp objects attached, etc.

I was there in April (Stephen Lawrence 25th Anniversary of his death) and there was big discussions on the Murder rates among blacks youth.. heard Min. Leo Muhammad speak twice during my stay. The Community is definitely trying to keep the streets blood free.
