What If The Avengers Had Only Done As Well at the Box Office as Batman v Superman?

Over the long history of Marvel Comics, they’ve built some of their most memorable stories on “What If” scenarios. What if this character fought this character? What if this universe crossed over with that one etc. So, we posed our own “What If” to the president of Marvel Studios.
reply:
You keep saying that. It’s not true. It needs around $800 million just to break even, and it’s not there yet. So it’s not even a “success”, much less a “massive” one.
If you want to know just how not successful this thing has been, consider this: Domestically, it’s being beaten by Deadpool. DEADPOOL. A movie starring a character nobody knows, which opened in a month nobody opens movies in because it’s a dead month, which was made for one-fifth of the cost.
And you know what? Say what you will about how BvS isn’t out of theaters yet, but... it won’t beat Deadpool. It’s not going to cross $350 million domestically.
WB’s tentpole movie, the foundation for their entire cinematic universe, is getting stomped on by fucking DEADPOOL.
BvS lost its third weekend to a shitty Melissa McCarthy comedy. This weekend, it gets The Jungle Book, next weekend it gets Huntsman: Winter’s War, and two weeks after that is Civil War. This thing is done.
Rumor: Update On Batman vs Superman R Rated Theatrical Release
by Damian Seeto on April 17, 2016
![]()
Batman vs Superman has been out for a few weeks now and it has grossed over $800 million worldwide. A new report suggests how much money the movie needs to make before Warner Bros. considers releasing the R rated cut into cinemas.
Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzalez heard back from his sources this week that Warner Bros. might only consider releasing the R rated version of Batman vs Superman in cinemas if the original Box Office total is $20 to $30 million shy of $1 billion.
If the movie gets approximately $970 million or $980 million worldwide, only then will Warner Bros. will release the 3 hour cut of the film just prior to it coming out on Blu-ray.
Take this news as a rumor for now as Warner Bros. could always change their minds. However, fans will be hungry for more footage of Batman vs Superman as the original cut seems have to deleted a few scenes that would have explained things a little better. Not to mention it adds a few more violent scenes which is why it’s been rated R.
The only deleted scene we’ve seen so far is when Lex Luthor gets arrested. There will be 30 minutes of additional footage included so it might be worth checking out again if you liked the movie the first time you saw it.

Worldwide: $827,311,730
Apr 15–17
$2,420,000
$4,110,000
$2,480,000
$9,010,000
I think everyone agrees that it is going to make money, but I just don't see this having legs. Just from word of mouth. I have zero desire to see this again. It will need to dominate until April 15... That's when Jungle Book comes out and based on the response from the audience when that trailer was shown.. That shit is going to be another Disney win to hold them until fucking Captain America comes out destroying records in May6. I think it will likely get 600 million world wide but it cost them 250 million to make and they had to have spent another 200 million on advertising alone. That's not much of a hit.
Ya dont say.And it continues.......................
Man fuck Snyder. I can deal with Bruce ideology of not sparing criminals lives after losing Robin but now they saying that they've been killing bad guys for years. GTFOH
Robin Was Also a Killer in Zack Snyder's DC Cinematic Murderverse
![]()
In what should honestly not be a surprise to anyone who saw Batman v Superman, it turns out that Batman’s youthful sidekick Robin was also someone who preferred murdering criminals as opposed to sending them through that pesky justice system.
As discovered by Digital Spy in their perusal of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Tech Manual book, the late Robin didn’t wield his traditional quarterstaff when fighting bad guys. Instead he had a giant goddamn axe.Of course.
![]()
A halberd, to be precise: a two-handed battle-axe and spear which allows its users to both cut and pierce their enemies’ flesh. (The blade and pointy bits are kept out of shot in the images above, but that’s presumably it being held by the memorial of Robin’s vandalized uniform.) The streets of Gotham City must have been littered with the severed limbs of many a criminal before the Joker finally stopped Robin’s reign of terror.
Digital Spy also uncovered a few other, less murder-centric facts in the book, well worth checking out if you have a few minutes. Assuming Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White doesn’t push you in front of oncoming traffic first.
Man.... This right here was perfect...
Side note: I can't believe that I didn't think of the fact that fucking Doomsday was made almost exactly like fucking Nuclear Man...

Ben Affleck's Batman To Face Every Villain Ever
Affleck has plans to make the "definitive Batman movie".
![]()
DC Comics
If you've been waiting decades to see Batman face The Ventriloquist or The Mad Hatter on the big screen, your luck may be about to come in.
Devin Faraci at Birth.Movies.Death claims Ben Affleck's Batman will face every significant member of the caped crusader's rogues gallery in the planned solo outing.
Affleck and his co-writer Geoff Johns' goal is reportedly to make the "definitive Batman film" and they want to throw in every recognisable Gotham character into their screenplay to do it.
Here's what Devin says verbatim;
"Many, if not most, members of Batman's rogue's gallery will be making appearances in the film. It's going to be crammed with Bat villains... They want to tell the ultimate Batman story, and to do so they're going to bring in all the big guns. They're going to have a big, sprawling Bat universe already in place."
As Faraci suggests, the easiest Batman movie Affleck and Johns could create to involve every Gotham villain ever would be to use Arkham Asylum as the storytelling device/setting...
That certainly seems a smart path to go down given the popularity of the video game series that carries the same name/concept and would allow many A, B and C-list DC characters to have their moment in the sun, which could springboard into future outings... the kind of wider universe that is at the top of DC's agenda right now.
Despite WB's disappointment with the box office and critical/fan reception of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, it's unlikely that much will change regarding their filmic plans and an Arkham Asylum movie would seem a logical follow-up/solo movie for the Dark Knight.
It's just a shame Batman v Superman was so bad, Suicide Squad looks the sh*ts and the currently shooting Justice League movie is another movie release on Zack Snyder's production line... because a Ben Affleck written, directed and starring Batman movie that features everyone from The Joker, The Penguin, Scarecrow, Two-Face, The Riddler, Bane all the way to Dr. Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze SHOULD be something to be very excited about.

Warner Bros.
What do you think - is throwing every Batman villain into a movie an act of desperation to compete with Marvel or something that could really create the definitive Batman movie?
Should Affleck actually be adapting something like Hush or The Long Halloween to adopt several Batman characters into a movie other than Arkham?

Which Story Will DC Adapt for Ben Affleck's Batman Movie?
by Tom Bacon, May 1st, 2016 at 3:00pm

If there was one thing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice got right, it was Ben Affleck's Batman. Although the casting was mocked when it was first announced, fans left the cinema convinced that Affleck had become the definitive Batman. No surprise, Warner Bros. have since announced a new Batman film to feature Affleck, who'll direct the film as well as star in it!
But where will the story go for inspiration? The latest rumours from Birth.Movies.Death raise some interesting possibilities...
Under the Red Hood
![]()
A powerful moment in Batman v Superman.
Where previous Batman films have shown us a newly-minted crime-fighter, Batman v Superman jumped straight in with a world-weary vigilante who's been at work for years. In one telling scene, we catch a glimpse of a defaced Robin costume. For comic book fans, that was a hint that the famous arc "A Death in the Family" has already happened in the DC Extended Universe. In that shocking plot, the Joker clipped a Robin's wings.
Years later, though, we learned that Jason Todd was still alive. In fact, he'd become a crime lord / vigilante, obsessing over both Batman and the Joker. He took on the identity of the Red Hood, and established himself as a major figure in the wider Batman mythos. Because of that Robin nod, the "Under the Red Hood" arc - which reintroduced Jason Todd - is generally viewed as the most likely plot for the Batman film.
![]()
Could the Red Hood enter the scene?
There are two problems with this theory, however. The first is that "Under the Red Hood" has already been adapted into an animated movie, and so redesigning it again would hardly show creative breadth and depth for an Extended Universe still in its early stages. The second is that this arc veers dangerously close to that of the Winter Soldier, Captain America's rogue best friend. With the Winter Soldier at the forefront of Marvel's movies - introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and fundamental to Captain America: Civil War - is it wise to focus on such a similar concept?

Batman's amazing rogues' gallery.
If Birth.Movies.Death are correct, the film under discussion is very different. They write:
"Many, if not most, members of Batman's rogue's gallery will be making appearances in the film. It's going to be crammed with Bat villains, which means that just about every major bad guy you've ever wanted to see in a movie will be in this movie. According to my sources Affleck and Geoff Johns, who has been working with him on the film, want to make the definitive Batman film. They want to tell the ultimate Batman story, and to do so they're going to bring in all the big guns. They're going to have a big, sprawling Bat universe already in place."
Birth.Movies.Death speculate that the film could be a version of Arkham Asylum. Personally, though, those comments remind me of the "Knightfall" arc.
"Knightfall" is a legendary event from the 1990s in which Batman faced a relentless onslaught from Bane. Bane's strategy was a brutally cunning one: first he raided Arkham Asylum, freeing all the inmates, and leaving Batman struggling to cope with the chaos. Only when the Arkham escapees had worn Batman down did Bane make his move, confronting Bruce Wayne and literally breaking his back. As a result, the mantle of Batman had to be passed on for a time.
![]()
You can tell this was the '90s...
It's true that Bane has been done before, but in truth neither of the film versions have been particularly good when compared to the deadly villain of the comics.
I can see "Knightfall" easily fitting Birth.Movies.Death's rumour. The scale of "Knightfall" made it the definitive Batman story for many '90s readers, while the Arkham break-out took full advantage of a jam-packed rogues' gallery. I doubt that they'd break Batman's back in the movies, but it would still be good to see the Dark Knight pushed to the limit.
