BGOL review .. BATMAN V SUPERMAN... (thoughts, summary, spoilers)

So Batman is NEVER allowed to evolve (or in this case DEvolve)??? He's supposed to stay staunch and reasonable forever? This isn't 1950's. I think the character progression from a trust worthy protector of life into a shattered punisher type shows progression as well as tragedy.

They problem I have is that too many of you guys are stuck on tropes you grew up with. You want Superman to be smiling Superman, Batman to be the dark avenger that never kills even though the amount of fire power being thrown at him can level a mountain. Unbreakable and unwavering. Grow up. Let the characters be damaged..allow them to shift and maybe come back to where they were.

*and guess what? Each one of you fools will be there on the front row, pop corn in hand for The Justice League movie, forgetting totally all the rants you made 2 years earlier for this film.

Ninja, evolve to what?

* getting played by Lex
* being less of a detective than lex
* being oblivious that diana prince is watching him
* being a walking dream sequence machine

here is the problem i have with people like you just cuz i don't agree with you i get attacked for having my own eff'n opinion. after paying my money to watch the same movie you saw. now, it just so happens that there a lot of people, who know comics, share my opinion about the movie. People who, like myself, wanted to LOVE the movie and the movie fell flat. hard. And, like i stated, if you had read what i wrote - completely - if the were going to made him a killer use that as areal device to have him bttle Superman. from a philosophical disagreement standpoint. that would have made sense with regards to why they were coming to blows. they wasted it. ridiculously squandered that opportunity.

nobody asked superman to be smiling all the time. not what i stated at all. stop butt-hurt projecting. I loved Man of Steel and superman was not smiling in it at all. It was a very serious portrayal of the character and my favorite Superman movie to date. And yes, because i am a comic book fan, and lived for so long without comic book movies, i will be there - day one -to see these other movies because i want to see the characters brought to the screen done in a way that does them justice (no pun intended). I want to see the genre grow. I want to see a teen titans movie based on the George Perez/Wolfman Tera story line, I want to see Green lantern done right, I want to see the comic book movie collections grow from dc and marvel but don't crap in a bowl, stick a spoon in it and tell me it's pudding. That is precisely what happened with this movie. It was all over the place and left too many questions. Oh, and not so coincidentally, after all the fans reviews and confusion regarding some of the themes dc releases cut footage that will be in the dvd. GTFOH. ninja, even DC knows they screwed up. They took out a pivotal scene that would explain how lex knew about mother boxes and kept making a pinging sound when he got locked up in his cell at the end. NO ONE knew how he knew that leaving the theater. but for real, i am glad you liked it. to me it had too much potential to suck as much @$$ as it did. I have no beef with you just a major difference of opinion. peace.

I was WAITING on this one

but I REALLY want to hear Fatman on Batman with my brother Marc.

yo, i was waiting on this. you know he just directed a recent episode of the Flash, he is friends with Ben and he has major ties to dc and he lovesssssssssssssssssssssss Batman. Even this cat said that this IS NOT his version of Batman. If BvsS was by some people he did not know they would have gotten ripped. but to his credit he pointed out all the huge flaws but was very diplomatic about it. i did not think he was going to disagree, even passively, as much as he did.

it's big news.. do you know how long people from 30 to 40-45 been waiting on a movie like this...

I'm just glad more and more people are coming to our side and rasing the exact same issues. My only concern is that this fucking movie is going to make a billion dollars, Warner brothers is going to say I told you bitches, and they going to "transformer" this shit up and give us two rushed ass Justice league movies knowing that fans are going to buy whatever they sell.

Listened to half the babble-on podcast

I think this is great for K. Smith he never sounded so damn confident before...
He was actually talking sh&t real good
Like he really didn't believe he could direct.

Maybe this will motivate him to hone his craft and take more chances...
He can do it too.

yep told somebody this same thing at my work this week

This movie made folks who considered themselves more than just casual 'comic fans' realize they did NOT know as much about the DC Universe as they thought they knew.... So now they are upset because 'things done changed', and it doesn't jive with the way they 'thought' things should go.

But we have seen this before....

Game of Thrones. Season 5.

When lots of GoT 'book readers' were up in arms about events happening on the tv show that never happened in the books.

(Like Barriston Selmy getting killed, for example.)

Week after week they kept on complaining & spitting vitriol about 'the direction' of the show... up until episode 8 ("Hardhome") dropped.

Ok I had decided to finally move pass this shit this morning but you are killing me with your defense of this movie... I understand your point (if you are a hardcore fan you understand everything that is happening here) but you have actual comic book fans, casual comic book fans, and fans of just the animated movies and series... Bitching about this movie and how it affects the future DC universe. The fact that you are willfully ignoring this major problem terrifies me.

I loved man of steel... I really did and it changed a lot of how most people viewed Superman but I enjoyed the changes because the movie took the time to explain shit... Like why Superman killed Zod because he knew that Zod wasn't going to stop. He was going to destroy humanity and rebuild krypton. He was genetically breed for this purpose. Superman was the first Kryptonian naturally born in forever and had the ability to choose his own way. He killed Zod because he knew that at that moment that was the only choice that he could make.

did I learn all that shit from the comic books.... NOPE. I learned all that from the movie. A movie directed by the same guy that directed this movie.. That's why I am no longer blaming Zack Synder for all the main problems with this movie.. When a director says before the movie even launches that I want fans to view the 3hr version... You know that there is a problem.

I think his vision is in the 3 hour cut and I bet that the only reason why it's three hours is because the powers that be wanted Zack and the writers to include all this shit so they make their money and try to have Justice league out around the time that infinity wars will be coming out.

The writing is all on the walls here and nobody can tell that me that's not the case here. This movie reeks of studio interference.

 knowing Hollywood accounting they will report this as a loss.

Ultron made 1.2 billion and Disney labeled it disappointing. So start there as far as what the "studio" will deem a success. As far as the 500 mill worldwide, the movie cost 400 - 450 mill give or take a few mill given all the marketing so they technically broke even this week. If it was made on Deadpools budget then this would be a financial coup. However , it wasn't. Deadpool, and star wars had longevity and did not have a steep drop from week to week. If this movie drops, domestically to 80 mill or below that's 50 percent shift. Still a good haul but we are talking about a large drop and then you have to project for the rest of the month. The JLA is going to happen. Warner Bros is not going to give up on this. Their investors have been in their @$$ cheeks about Marvels success so we will get more. I just hope they are written better and not so disjointed.

‘Suicide Squad’ Undergoes Expensive Reshoots to Make it More Fun

When the Suicide Squad trailer was released, most remarked at how fun it looked in sharp contrast to the bleak, dark world of Batman vs. Superman. Fans connected to it immediately in a very big way; to this day the Suicide Squad trailer has about 15 million more views on YouTube than the Batman vs. Superman trailer, which came out over a month earlier. But, it may have all been a clever trick of editing. It turns out the movie was not as fun or funny as you might have expected and now, according to reports, Warner Bros. has sunk a lot of money into expensive reshoots to help lighten the tone of the DC Cinematic Universe.

According to Birth Movies Death, all the jokes or levity that you see in that first Suicide Squad trailer consisted of the entirety of all the jokes or levity that you’d see in the whole film. Namely, the film really isn’t as fun as the trailer would have you believe. Given that, and the critical response to the distinct lack of fun in Batman vs. Superman, the site reports that Warner Bros. is currently spending “tens of millions” to “alter the tone of the film” and bring some humor to the goings on. Before you get too concerned, they’re not looking to turn Suicide Squad into Deadpool, just that they’re “beefing up fun character moments and interactions.”

Now reshoots on a big superhero movie are not uncommon, nor are they anything to get worked up about; almost all blockbuster films have them baked into their original budget before filming even begins. But, these Suicide Squad reshoots are a different animal. For one, they’re abnormally expensive compared to most reshoots. For another, they’re in reaction to something that happened after they wrapped shooting, including something that has been playing out over the past few days. Its a proactive reaction to both the response to the trailer and the response to Batman vs. Superman. Normally that would be concerning, but this looks like something that could actually very much improve the film.

We’ll be honest, the Suicide Squad trailer looked great. It was like DC’s answer to Guardians of the Galaxy. Even after Batman vs. Superman, we’re still excited for Suicide Squad, and if it can match the tone of that trailer, all the better. And if Warner Bros. is this aware of the perceived “lack of fun” in the DC Cinematic Universe, perhaps it could permeate to a number of their other franchises. James Wan has already said publicly his Aquaman will be more fun, and both Zack and Deborah Snyder (his producer wife) have said Justice League won’t be as dark as Batman vs. Superman.

Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5.

Hold up, the movie that should be R rated and dark is getting reshot because the movie that SHOULD have been the epic, action packed, fun movie (BVS) is too dark, confusing and takes itself way too seriously? These characters have about 80 years worth of stories how are they fucking up this badly?

Some of these I will agree are just nitpicking...

But dang.... I was also wondering about when did Lois hear Superman call out Martha. She was clearly in another room. Again.. poor editing.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.... Really..

You know something. When I watched that new trailer, I knew the tone was different from what I previously saw. I was actually hyped up because it did look like the type of movie that I wanted, but damn...

This is blatantly because they were fully aware of the shit show that they were about to put out last weekend and they wanted a plan B just in case the numbers didn't hit. You can not tell me that all the reports about the WB executives having concerns over Batman v. Superman weren't true now. Every single reaction by the studio... again.... reeks of desperation.

So I've probably watched about 20 spoiler reviews on this movie... and this one is one of the best... mainly because they also hit on the exact same issues that the majority of us have pointed out and some things that I didn't think about.

Hold up, the movie that should be R rated and dark is getting reshot because the movie that SHOULD have been the epic, action packed, fun movie (BVS) is too dark, confusing and takes itself way too seriously? These characters have about 80 years worth of stories how are they fucking up this badly?

I don't know what's going on with Warner Bros, because the dark tone wasn't the problem, the fucking script was the problem.I don't understand, why they would go back and reshoot Suicide Squad :smh:

Like I said earlier in the thread, people don't know what they want, because people criticize Marvel for making their movies family friendly and yet criticize DC for making theirs too dark.

I don't mind the family friendly tone Marvel has and I don't mind the dark tone DC has also.As long as the movies are good I don't care.Even though sometimes, I wish Marvel would make their movies slightly dark

I'm sticking more of this on WB then DC, because DC animated consistently puts out topnotch quality work. DC Film division is just lost right now.
Actually, it might not even be DC's film division fault. :smh:

When it comes to movies... having the rights to "Final Cut" is everything.

Whoever has it... controls the absolute final product.... And can cut out scenes, edit them a different way, or even 'reshoot' them in the 11th hour.

DC's animation division has 'final cut' authority on all the cartoons they put on the shelf. That's why those stories always appear 'as intended'.

But when it comes to moviemaking.... The Hollywood Studios RUN SHIT... and usually retain the right of Final Cut... Especially if they are ALSO financing the movie, or distributing it overseas.

Thats also why 'big time' Directors like Martin Scorcese, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron and the like... Usually negotiate to keep "Final Cut" authority in their contracts, to prevent overzealous Studio Executives from ever TOUCHING the movies they make, or cutting scenes at the last minute to maximize profits.

Those guys almost NEVER make a movie without having 'The Absolute Final Word' on the fully-edited version of the film that actually makes it to the Silver Screen. :smh:

They MAKE the full movie. In its entirety. Without any 'creative input' from any Accountants or Marketing Execs of the Studio.

All the studios have to do is pay for it... advertise it... show it to the public... then manufacturer the DVDs.

Everybody wins. Especially the audience.

But Zach Snyder hasn't reached their level yet, as a Director. :smh:

Guess that means Will going to be cracking jokes in the movie..probably will also give Deadshot a lame catchphrase like"I ALWAYS hit the bullseye" or something :lol:

Here are the things the public knows they HAVE to do in part 1 and part 2...

1. Batman & Wonder Woman locate these other meta humans.
2. Introduce flash
3. Introduce aquaman
4. Introduce cyborg
5. Convince them to join the group
6. Have some kind of headquarters
7. Introduce Stephenworf
8.introduce Darksied
9. Explain motherboxs
10. Future batman makes another appearance
11. Future Flash makes an appearance
12. Future flash gets power armor
13. Rebirth of superman
14. Future flash discovers he can time travel
15. Explain evil superman
16. Lois dies
17. Alternate future is stopped
18. Justice league joins

These are all the things that they HAVE to cover in only two movies.

Zack Snyder says he sidelined Superman at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice because he wanted Ben Affleck’s Batman to build nascent superheroteam the Justice League in the movie’s sequel.

Snyder’s divisive movie climaxes with the man of steel apparently dead following his battle with the Kryptonian monstrosity Doomsday and a nuclear blast, although ripples of anti-gravity energy from his coffin suggest a resurrection is imminent. The American film-maker said he thought it was important for Superman to take some time out from the story.

I wanted Bruce Wayne to build the Justice League,” Snyder told Entertainment Weekly. “With Superman around, it’s a different conversation when you create the Justice League, right? It’s like, ‘Me and Superman, we want to make a Justice League.’ … Bruce Wayne having to go out and find these seven samurai by himself, that’s a lot more interesting of a premise.”

Two movies in 2017 and 2018 will see Batman joining Wonder Woman,Aquaman, the Flash, Cyborg and others under the Justice League banner. Entertainment Weekly reports the first of these films may follow a “searching for Superman” template, similar to the hunt for lost Jedi knight Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which at least suggests that Kal-El is alive in some form.

“He comes very close to death in space, and the reason we did that is because I wanted to show – and keep the idea in the viewer’s mind – that he can come pretty close to death and the sun can revive him, or he can be revived,” said Snyder, who borrowed the film’s finale from the 1992 comic The Death of Superman. But the director said the last son of Krypton could not simply be revived by sunlight this time, as he was after being hit by a nuclear missile earlier in Batman v Superman.

“I think something more is gonna need to be done,” said Snyder. “There’s a mythological journey for Superman. There’s the birth, death and resurrection thing. And when you bring him back, who knows what he is when he comes back.”

This is what happened after the first few Spider-Man flicks, but after the fan boy giddy wore off, all the chinks and flaws was apparent to everyone and that ship sank fast..

BVS: LEXCORP SUSPENDS BUSINESS, DISTANCES ITSELF FROM LEX LUTHOR

BY ALEX OSBORN

A new piece of viral marketing for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has surfaced online, teasing what's to come for Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor and his company LexCorp in Warner Bros.' DC film universe.

"Due to unfortunate circumstances, LexCorp Industries will be temporarily suspending its global operations," a post on LexCorp Industries' Instagramreads.

"When interviewed about his actions against a fallen alien, Lex Luthor responded with; 'Ding, ding, ding, ding. Are we entering the second round?'" the post continues, with the company attempting to distance itself from Luthor by adding: "We do not understand Mr. Luthor's actions and LexCorp does not take responsibility for his actions. Thank you for being patient."

What do you make of this statement from LexCorp in the wake of Luthor's actions in Batman v Superman? Be sure to speculate in the comments and, for more on Dawn of Justice, find out what comic book geek Kevin Smith thought of the film.

Shit is beyond corny :smh:

Correction: Warner Bros is total shit.

Really it's the film division of the company. Whoever's in charge needs to go. They really need people from the comics side to take the helm or at least be in the fuckin decision making process. The fuckin bean counters are killing the brand.

These muthafuckas need to just take their time and develop a cinematic universe instead of trying to keep up with Marvel. They allready second guessing SUICIDE SQUAD. This shit they just released was pushed back a year. And now they goin forward with JLA in a couple weeks with fuckhead Snyder at the helm. I guarantee he finds a way to fuck up DARKSEID.

Early on in Batman v Superman, Batman stares solemnly at a tattered Robin suit, a moment director Zack Snyder uses to explain a pivotal moment in Batman’s history. And while we always assumed it was Joker who was responsible for the suit’s worn appearance, we now have confirmation.

Speaking with IGN, Snyder revealed the history behind the moment.

In my mind, it was that Robin had died about 10 years earlier in some run in with a young Joker. So that was an interesting thing to me. Sorta a fun backstory to play with. I felt like there had been loss and there had been sacrifice.

In the comics, “A Death in the Family” remains one of the darker story arcs in the DC universe, and it sounds like that’s where Snyder is finding his inspiration. It’s a sobering moment in a movie that’s already pretty bleak, but great because it explains why this version of Batman is so angry and road weary.

Not only does it provide audiences with some important backstory, but it suggests Joker is not Robin, as some fan theories had guessed. However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of Robin becoming Red Hood even though Snyder claims Robin is dead.

Whether or not we’ll ever see this moment play out on screen remains to be seen. Ben Affleck has reportedly written a script for a standalone Batman flick, so perhaps there will come a day when we learn more about Robin’s run-in with the Joker.

Watched a few videos while at work I'm going to post when I get home. One video is about is DC will cast Alexander Luthor's father after the backlash of Eisenberg portrayal. They went on to say that Eisenberg auditioned for Jimmy Olson and the Riddler. They offered him the role of Luthor and he said he was going to portray him as the way he was going to protray Riddler and Olson.

Why didn't he fuckkng say a line about this in the movie... I damn line or flashback or dream.. Something. We just had 3 god damn batman movies that didn't have a robin in them and then you just randomly drop robin in this one.... Do we even know which Robin??? Nope.... Do we know when he died? Nope.... Do we know that this is why Batman is now Murdery???... Nope.... It's create your own robin day kids? Choose the one you like? The shit made no sense. I mean... This shit looked like a Robin Statute that Joker spray painted?

The first time I saw it, I thought... Well this was the costume that robin wore and Joker spray painted it on his dead body, but shit looks like a fucking concrete statute..... Why would he spray paint a fucking statute.. I know that Batman meets the joker in suicide squad, so is Suicide Squad supposed to be before Batman v Superman... Because I just don't see Murdery batman letting Joker walk and we all know from the trailers that the joker is alive and kicking. ????

You don't need a fucking video explaining how Robins death shaped Batman if your movie did a better job of explaining That robins death shaped Batman.

Side note... If suicide squad is either slightly before or after Batman v Superman.... Then they better explain why lex didnt have files on the metahumans from that movie.

Damnit now I'm fucking angry all over again. Fuck this movie so much.
