Raikkonen excluded from qualifying, will start from pits
Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying after his Alfa Romeo’s front wing was found not to conform with the rules.

Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly has been hit with his second major penalty of the weekend – this time for his Honda-powered RB15 exceeding fuel flow limits during qualifying.
The Frenchman, who was already set to start Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix from the pit lane after a weighbridge infraction in practice, was disqualified from the results of qualifying after it was found his car had exceeded the maximum allowed fuel mass flow of 100 kg/h.

They might as well have adopted the full halo. The outward sight line for the driver will be impacted the same without the additional protection the halo offers. :dunno:

They just might but I think they need to vote on it after the season. As a fan of the "flying coffins" of the 60s and 70s, I dislike all these additions to the bodies aesthetically but I understand the safety aspect. Especially the Indy cars who are much faster for longer periods of time and where debris seems to come straight at the followers because of the ovals as opposed to road courses where the cars are either turning or preparing to turn 75% of the time.
I was watching that race live, at the Triangle when the debris hit that kid and I knew right away it was real bad. It reminded me of Senna and I got chills.

Yeah, ultimately until that cockpit is fully enclosed I think we'll occasionally see freak accidents like that. I wasn't for the halo because F1 is just dangerous by nature, but it has proved itself at least once since it's introduction.

Yes that was freaky.

I've just had to accept that things are much different than the Golden Age when part of the thrill was the possibility of death.

Ricciado and Raikkonen team move is a bust or is it too early to tell? When Vettel, Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc made those moves obviously to better teams they finished at a much higher place than their previous team finishes. This tells me a lot about how superior Mercedes and Ferrari as a engineering team than the other team engineers. We may never see a different team win a F1 Championship again.

Not really. Hamilton and Vettle were world champions with their former teams, Vettle multiple times. Kimi has been on the downside for quite some time now. Riccardo moved to a worse team IMO. Lewis was fucked out of at least one probably two championships at McLaren. That is a fact. The McLaren team fell apart. The big 3 are Merc, Ferrari and RB. RB doesn't build cars, they are an energy drink, yet they throw huge money into engineers and testing. Their chassis are legendary. Merc and Ferrari we know build and engineer their cars from the ground up.
Do I think we'll see a different team besides those 3 win? Yeah, eventually. I hope. That's one of my problems with F1 - the formula is just too tight. I miss the days when privateers could slap a crazy plant into a chassis and win races. I miss Group C. I miss refueling during pit stops. Why in the fuck are we worried about fuel economy in a race car? Bring back the big, howling engines!

Oh yeah, it's Hammer Time baby.

Graham Rahal and Alexander Rossi are taking shots at the Spanish Grand Prix but if somebody offered them seats in midfield cars, they'd leave Indy in a minute.

Yeah, but let’s be quite honest, both these fools would leave Indy if they got a full season drive in F1. Let Haas come asking and these suck as would be on the next plane. You can’t compare what’s essential a spec series to F1. I catch Indycar when I can, but it’s a shell of what used to be which was a legitimate competitor to F1.

One of Indy's up and coming drivers, Patricio O'Ward has signed to Red Bull, obviously every Indy driver would love that shot.

No doubt. I'll be catching he Indy 500 in the coming weeks to see what Alonso can do this year. Indy is getting better, they race this year at COTA was a good one. It'll be nice when they get the 900hp engines in 2021 too.

Damn, how is it he's that far down the order though? I guess having that Andretti backing really made the difference.

Niki Lauda died today. Don't know if it deserves its own thread. The man was a great driver but also a backstabbing snake, so there's that.
