Thoughts on IndyCar's Forward protection device?

They might as well have adopted the full halo. The outward sight line for the driver will be impacted the same without the additional protection the halo offers.![]()
They just might but I think they need to vote on it after the season. As a fan of the "flying coffins" of the 60s and 70s, I dislike all these additions to the bodies aesthetically but I understand the safety aspect. Especially the Indy cars who are much faster for longer periods of time and where debris seems to come straight at the followers because of the ovals as opposed to road courses where the cars are either turning or preparing to turn 75% of the time.
I was watching that race live, at the Triangle when the debris hit that kid and I knew right away it was real bad. It reminded me of Senna and I got chills.
Yeah, ultimately until that cockpit is fully enclosed I think we'll occasionally see freak accidents like that. I wasn't for the halo because F1 is just dangerous by nature, but it has proved itself at least once since it's introduction.
Ricciado and Raikkonen team move is a bust or is it too early to tell? When Vettel, Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc made those moves obviously to better teams they finished at a much higher place than their previous team finishes. This tells me a lot about how superior Mercedes and Ferrari as a engineering team than the other team engineers. We may never see a different team win a F1 Championship again.
Yeah, but let’s be quite honest, both these fools would leave Indy if they got a full season drive in F1. Let Haas come asking and these suck as would be on the next plane. You can’t compare what’s essential a spec series to F1. I catch Indycar when I can, but it’s a shell of what used to be which was a legitimate competitor to F1.Graham Rahal and Alexander Rossi are taking shots at the Spanish Grand Prix but if somebody offered them seats in midfield cars, they'd leave Indy in a minute.

No doubt. I'll be catching he Indy 500 in the coming weeks to see what Alonso can do this year. Indy is getting better, they race this year at COTA was a good one. It'll be nice when they get the 900hp engines in 2021 too.One of Indy's up and coming drivers, Patricio O'Ward has signed to Red Bull, obviously every Indy driver would love that shot.
Niki Lauda died today. Don't know if it deserves its own thread. The man was a great driver but also a backstabbing snake, so there's that.
