Pole: Vettel

Riccardo on the 2nd row with Leclerc. Max driving outside the top 10 and Lewis on fribt row, not on pole. This race and start is bout to be on.

Lewis gonna have to go for the undercut when Vettel pits. I don't know if he'll able to put up a fight on hards towards the end of the race.

Not a Vettel fan but a 5 second penalty? He loss control, slowing or stop on the grass would have resulted in the car spinning out of control. What Vettel should had done was let Lewis take the lead once he regained control.

I mean, if you think he should've let Lewis get past, then you have to agree with the penalty then. Letting Lewis pass is more if he gained a position by cutting a chicane. It's a pretty grey area on this one I think. But at the end of the day, like I said before, Vettel ultimately screwed his own race. Lewis applied the pressure and he crumbled like he always does.

Letting Lewis pass is different than a 5 second penalty, a driver will still have the opportunity to regain the lead and keep the race competitive.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo

Vettel continues to make mistakes under pressure. What's it been, like 2 years now?

The Ferrari International Assistance, er...sorry, The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile is finally showing some balls. Fuck Ferrari, they never cried when they were getting all the calls, or non-calls. And that shit went on for decades.

As expected the Horses found pace from somewhere. Now it's up to the Arrows to follow suit.

Unfortunately, F1 is turning into boredom central. They really need to do something about the formula. I have plenty of suggestions.

Yeah, that's par for the course with Vettel. If he has Lewis on his ass, he goes into straight panic mode and Lewis doesn't have to do much. Liberty was supposed to have the 2021 rules signed off this month, but they keep letting the teams play these games and delaying shit. I like the fact that they do research and consult with the teams first, but they gotta take page out of Bernie's book and just do the shit. Trying talking fine detail at this point will only be cause for teams trying to cut off the competition balls to their benefit. That all do it, so you gotta take matters into your own hand at some point and solidify the rules.

Yes. Though I'm inclined to give Liberty a little time to get well and truly settled in. It can't and won't be easy straightening out the incestuous mess that Bernie and nazi Max left them. Wishy-washy Charlie wasn't much help either.

The changes in the formula I spoke of though would bring back competitiveness and allow us to see teams other than the Big 3 fight for podiums.
For starters, the car's aerodynamics are too complicated. Simpler front wings, simpler bargeboards, simpler sidepods. Make the cars thinner. That should lead to more overtaking opportunities. Also, the simpler aeros means the dirty air won't affect cars as much allowing closer racing and also more overtaking opportunities.
- Get rid of KERS and DRS. One makes the cars too complicated the other is too artificial.
- Bigger engines. Now that KERS is gone (who fucking cares about fuel economy on a race car anyway?) we need that power back. If the formula were relaxed back to, say, 3 liters we might see another Ford/Cos DFV. And hear it screaming down the front straight at Fuji - which brings me to...
- Change the rules for straightaway length. I'm afraid we won't see old Hockenheim or original Sarthe again let alone The Ring but there are circuits where the straights could be lengthened. Some of the best passing comes after a long run into the braking zone. And there's nothing like hearing those big plants wail at full rev.
- Bring refueling back to pit stops. Probably necessary with larger engines anyway but it brings another element of anxiety to the proceedings. Will the nozzle get stuck? Should he pit for a splash, or can he finish on fumes? Of course this is my favorite because of fond memories of the Tyrrell birdshot incident but that's just me.

The engine and body rules would allow the minnows to actually stand a chance. And we might just see privateers again. But of course, since there are no large sums of money to be had immediately, we'll continue to get the same boring racing week after week. Don't get me started on street circuits.

Paul Ricard this weekend.

It’s a fast track that doesn’t overly punish drivers if they go out of track limits since there are no gravel or sand traps.

The real battles will be in F1.5, so I’ll probably focus on this since MB and F are going to be the only two teams dicing up the front, unless a miracle happens for the Renault powered RB or someone flubs a race strategy <cough Ferrari - cough a lot lately>.

By the way, F2 is testing the 18” wheel package which will be adopted by F1 in ‘21, and the cars look sweet

With the addition of FIA GT / WEC announcing the LMP1 class will return to road car, a hyper car homologation based rule set which Toyota, Aston, Glickenhaus have already announced their commitment to compete in (who knows Ferrari may even throw the SF90 into the ring! They haven’t been a part of LMP since the 333Sp), and 2020 is shaping up to be an very interesting year for racing for fans of racing.

This right here. Unfortunately, F1 is becoming tiresome. I love to see Lewis do well not only because he's black but because he's one of the best drivers I've ever seen. He's always been racy. Always. Plus he's a gentleman driver and doesn't go around wrecking people because he's upset. But as usual, because he's black he doesn't get half as much props as he should.

Anyway, as far as the new LMP, I'm glad to see it. I'd prefer to see Group C again but I guess that'll never happen. Anyway, they had to do something because Toyota was racing against themselves. I have to see what the rule changes bring because the fucking rules are too goddamned complicated. Look what they did to the Ford GT at Le Mans. Not that they shouldn't have been penalized but shouldn't that have been caught in real time? Yeah, I don't trust Ferrari International Assistance. After all, you can't spell fiasco without FIA.

Heist, did you know the Glick SCG 003 is entered in the 24hr Ring? Two days brother. I'll make a thread to remind folks.

Oh yeah, I know. I know because I was supposed to be there.
One of my older mentors pals around with Chris Cogan. Told him I used to be active on Rennteam. He told if I can get my flight and visa, they’ve got me covered on a full pass + pits for the race.
Timing was too short. I couldn’t put it all together.

Damn, that sucks. I used to have family over there so it was pretty easy for me. I think now I kinda took that shit for granted.

Sadly he could win 10x DCs, and whypipol will still scream Senna or Fangio or some other silly nonsense.

You can say that again. Those cars and tracks Fangio drove were fucking hairraising, to say the least, but we'll never really know how good he was or wasn't. Schumacher, please. I never thought he was that great when he was driving. Another petulant german who stated wrecking other drivers when things didn't go his way. Plus he has that whole Ferrari International Assistance thing going on. People still talk about that shit today. Senna was a brilliant driver but he also tended to get nutty and wreck people. I can kinda understand in his case because his own teams were fucking him over right and left. Speaking of which...

Lewis would already have 7 if McLaren didn't screw him out of at least 2 probably 3 drivers championships.

Wanting to Lewis to win 8 F1 Championships, one more than Michael Schumacher, then he will be THE greatest driver to ever lived on paper.

In my book he's already the best all-around driver I've seen. Probably the only one close is Stewart. There have been better passers but nobody has been as consistently fast from day one. And he's a clean driver. Almost every one of the "experts" lists of the best drivers, 90% of them were dirty af.

I don’t know if it was sheer genius or sheer luck, but Lewis left McLaren AND his Father’s management at just the right time.

Oh, it was Lewis all the way. He is a smart dude. Very smart. I was quite frankly surprised. Maybe not book-smart but very clever and wiley. The few times I met him there wasn't much convo, you know, just grin-n-grip. But I listened to him (and other drivers) as they had conversations with themselves or patrons. Tells you a lot.

He definitely knew McLaren was screwing him and had his exit strategy in place. Same with his pops. The British papers covered it much more fully, once you get past all the sensationalism. Pops basically wanted him to take his brother and him along for the ride. Nothing against his brother but we know why that can't happen. Lewis supported him fully but he can't fix the unfixable. And pops was buggin' wanting all types of high-end shit, using Lewis' name without his knowledge, acting like a diva. He had to go.

Hmmm, I wonder why McLaren was screwing him over? He was their prodigy child. Someone who Ron Dennis had groomed and lent support to since before his teens when he was tearing up the karting leagues and was brought to McLaren’s attention.

I remember when Lewis spazzed out and posted a screenshot of the telemetry data from his and Jensen’s session! He claimed Jensen was being given better parts. That nonsense was definitely a full on diva moment and I lost a tiny bit of respect for him. That was like giving Red Bull and Ferrari the password to the account.

But as for his Father, I was never aware of the root cause for the split. I can certainly see his Father looking for some um - recompense - given all he had to sacrifice and endure to get him to the level where legitimate teams would take notice. But I guess he got too greedy. I don’t even seem him in the MB garage or at the races any longer.

I'd forgotten about that contretemps! Oh, man, he was hot. Also young. I'd say he's learned and hasn't really put a foot wrong since. I tend to give these guys a pass on a meltdown because the profession is so high-stress. It's what you do afterward that matters. And McLaren, so I've heard, was giving him parts from the #1 car. Now, this is not an uncommon practice but only a driver can feel the car. I know I can get in my car and feel immediately if something is off. Anyway, we know that alonzo was trying to sabotage him and the way he was driving I really think he would have won that year. Even with spygate. 2008 he took it. 2009 Dennis was gone so he was (I feel) kinda on his own at McLaren. Then the ban and all sorts of mechanical fuck ups and he still was the raciest driver on track. Then Button came aboard and they seemed to get along but the car was shit and the pit fuck ups and on and on. Plus that RB-8 was a muthafucka of a chassis. He was still going toe to toe with those boys though.

Anyhow, sorry, I could talk classic F1 for hours. Yeah, his father got kinda out of pocket. Lewis set his whole family up. Pops was also pissed that he moved to Morocco. Presumably, because he now wasn't under his thumb anymore.

Small surprise in qualifying right now.
Vettel made a mistake, blew a shift and had to return to the pits in Q3 without recording a time .... 3 minutes to go.

He better have some magic in his hands and feet or else he’ll be sitting deep in the front formation tomorrow.

Vettel shoots himself in the foot again. Qualified 7th. Ricard is a fast track and he’ll need a miracle to podium. He was 1.4 seconds off the pole sitter, who is ...

... a Mercedes 1-2 lock out...

...Hamilton, who takes his 60th pole with Mercedes while setting a record for the driver with the most number of poles with one manufacturer.
60 of the 63 poles Mercedes have achieved since their return have come from LH44.

Sidenote: Remember all the chuffa and noise about Bottas and his beard, and how he was going to take it to Hamilton this season.

Where are those voices now? LMBAO!
