Post up what you are jammin' or if you are in the market feel free to ask questions.

I'm not gonna go into what I think is best because we all hear different things between our ears, in the end you gotta go with what sounds good to you, these are just some different options out there.

My current cans are the Denon AH-D2000, I was looking for something with some solid bass response and these definitely do the trick, they have slightly recessed mids and great highs, they list for $349 but I picked up a pair for $229 shipped to my door.

DenonD2000NewInBox.jpg

Denon has a full line of quality headphones which can be seen in the link I supplied.

The Denon's have a impedance of 25 ohms so they will sound good coming right from your laptop/MP3 player, they are easy to drive but I use a Headphone amp and DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) which really enhances the total sound, I went with the FiiO E7 and E9 combo ($190 shipped), the E7 is a portable Amp/DAC and the E9 is a more powerful full size amp, once docked the E7 becomes a DAC for the E9 which by-passes the soundcard on your computer via the USB and gives you a clean signal for your E9 to amplify. (most laptop soundcards are substandard)

This combo gives you a powerful full size amp for home use and a portable amp/DAC to take on the road.

Note: Any headphones you buy can only give you what you give them so I try to stick with lossless music files. (WAV,FLAC,etc.) and I use the Foobar2000 audio player.

What specs on headphones/earbuds will indicate good range, for example deep bass and crisp highs? I'm tired of headphones that sound like my computer speakers.

You want to look at the frequency response, human hearing is from 20-20,000 Hz.

The Denon's cover 5-45,000 Hz.

I read on a blog that frequency response was a useless spec.

The freq. resp. gives you the range of the equipment, maybe because most extend beyond the capabilities of the human ear they said it was useless, personally I always look at this and total harmonic distortion (THD).

What numbers are best for THD?

For earbuds I'll probably get Shures and either Sienheiser or Grado for cans.

THD will not apply to headphones so you don't have to worry about that one but you will want to look at 'Sensitivity' and 'Input Impedance', sensitivity tells you how loud they will get at a certain wattage, impedance tells you how easy or hard a set of headphones are to drive, lower being easier, my Denon's have a impedance of 25 ohms, Sennheiser HD650's have 300, the lower one's can be driven from a laptop without a amp, the higher one's need a amp to bring out their best.

Sennheiser HD201... got 'em for 20 on amazon but they are going for 12 on buy.com i like them a lot...

I had those until I broke the plug on them. I would've got another pair but I went ahead and upgraded to the HD555s since they dropped from $170 to $85 plus free shipping and no tax.

They sound incredible, especially with 320kbps files, it's like how music is supposed to sound. You'll hear things in your music you didn't notice before.

Great highs, mids and bass.

The phones are open so music flows out both sides of them and sometimes the music flows out so much that the phones start vibrating on my ears.

They're a good steal for 85 dollars.

They comfortable too, the cushions feels like velvet and they should fit any size ear or dome. And all the pieces are replaceable, like if the cord breaks, you can take it out the phone and order another one.

These are the new Sony MDR-XB1000 cans, they are gonna have 70mm drivers, my Denons have 50mm and they pump bass so I wanna hear what these are gonna sound like, Sony has not released them in the states yet.

FYI: Beats have 40mm drivers.

Get em - if you like the 201s, and don't plan to listen to them around other people, you'll love these. They get loud. I left them playing on my laptop in the back of my house, and I could still hear them from the front of the house. Tweak the EQs on your music players, and these things will sound perfect.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Professional Studio Reference Headphones THE BEST I'VE EVER HEARD REGARDLESS OF PRICE

As you can see, I've used the fuck outta them. I'll be replacing the earpads now that I've found where I can get them from.

Started with the Dr. Dre Studio's good sound good [but sometimes over powering bass] but the damn arch broke 6 months later. Then i got the solos muddled sound lighter its ok.:hmm: Just bought the Beats Pro.. Best sound overall, bass lil less powerful of the studios, but pack a punch, mids n highs crisp n clear over the studio's. The Pro's have a more define and a much cleaner sound than the Studio's:D, comes with a heavy duty cord that locks in:yes:, You can daisy chain them. They don't come with the Icontrol cord like the Solo's but i ordered those cords[2 of them from Monster 70 bucks] I wanted headphones that'll last and since these are made out of aluminum they'll last a long time. The only thing i could say that's a knock on these are they're a lil heavy my ears fit right in the circular cups but maybe its something i have to get used to. But by far these baby's are great:dance::dance::dance:

C/s I have the studio pros too

Why do this again? The other one did ask about bose and beats, but there was a lot of good info there. Why start from scratch. THD and frequency are always important, two of the main things they use to actually quantify differences between headphones, speakers, amps, crossovers, and any other passive or active audio device. Something you do notice when you start testing out different equipment. Especially when impedance's are not matched.

Like $35-$40

are these really that good?..I just got me a zune hd and in the market for some good headphones..I got my eye on the Bose IE2s but kinda hesistant about drop $100 on some headphones..

Are all of you niggas music producers or something, or are motherfuckers just riding the bus wearing $300 headphones nowadays? If the latter, I'm surprised that I haven't read about someone being killed over some headphones... yet.
