You also have to consider that Tribe was mostly in house with Q-tip doing most of the production or involved in it.

A lot of De La Soul's creativity was an extension of Prince Paul.

I LOVE TCQ, but De La Soul started it, and is still together making music as we type.

The even wrote the BGOL anthem:

YESSSIRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

:dance::dance::dance::dance:

I was unsure of who to go with until you made me remember this. I'm glad I make my own hours nowadays. I'm late aas fuck thinking about these two powerhouse group. Ome more vote to De La!

Rap today sucks. :smh::smh::smh:

both are pioneers, but…

De La ushered in a new era in hip hop that allowed Tribe to come in.
De La pioneered skits on albums and changed the way artists sample music.
De La has had more classic albums than Tribe.
De La's albums always had at least 2-3 classic joints.
De La has more hits.
De La has influenced more music and more artists.
De La still makes music today.
Every member of De La contributed unlike the whole Jarobi era…:hmm:

if you go album for album, De La clearly wins.
still love Tribe though.
shout out to Jarobi wherever you are…

Damn, and I thought it was The Jungle Brothers who birthed both. :hmm:

De La has more hits than Tribe :smh:
De La has influenced more :smh:
Q-Tip still makes music, and Phife will be making an album
Wasn't it Prince Paul who changed how artist sample music?
De La did not have more classic albums :smh:

wtf? i just noticed the poll results. you niggas are WILDING.

de la's creativity is unparalleled.

pos's flow alone shits all over tip and phife.

stakes is high is one of the 10 best hiphop albums ever made.

these niggas STILL put out quality (grind date, nike album).

dont get me wrong, tribe is ill...but they're no where near de la.

De la was over rated. After 3 feet, their albums were ass. There live show sucked donkey balls.

De La and the jungle brothers were/are severely overrated.

I remember seeing them dissing Tip on Either BET or MTV talking about in the scheme of things, if native tongues was a cake, Tip would be a very tiny little m&m on a big ass cake.

Tribe all day.

The only one I would listen to rap today is Tip.

Just about all of it.

Stetsa Sonic >>> De La

The Jungle Brothers were underrated, they're the least popular member of the Native Tongues even though they birthed the whole thing. Well maybe, Monie Love.

Their first two albums are classic, but didn't get as much recognition because they were too conscious.

i'm not gonna Blunt this thread by googling album sales and shit…

but Tribe really had 2 great albums. the others were good with some classic cuts, but not great. De La's first four albums were each profound in their own way. if you did a greatest hits album for both, De La would have more cuts on theirs.

q-tip has more unreleased albums than released it seems. no disrespect to Phife Dawg, but he is irrelevant.

who gets the credit, the producer or the artist? Combo of both. give credit to De La, not just Prince Paul.

BackPack Rap was born from De La. love it, hate it, but it's true. that whole hippie shit they had allowed for non-commercial rap to develop where the focus was on the music and not commercial sales.

C'MON, SON!!!

The fact that you think that Tip is better that Phife show's me that you're into style over substance.

HOWEVER, I do agree that ATCQ had better live shows AND all of DeLa's albums went downhill after 3 Feet High.

But again, C'MON SON!!! :hmm::hmm::hmm:

Sorry, I'll give credit to Prince Paul, because most rap fans don't even care or know about the producer. That's why without Prince Paul they went back to being a more traditional rap group. They were good, but pretty boring and more hit and miss.

Midnight Mauraders is one of the top rap albums ever. If you did a greatest hits, Midnight Mauraders could be Tribe's and that's all they would need. If you did a De La one, would you really have much past Buhloone Mindstate, and I think Tribe's first three are better. Because you have a bigger catalog doesn't mean you were better or more influential.

Ahhh...brings back memories of joining them on stage when they performed this song at Essence Music Fest one year :D

I rolled with De La Soul, but do want to let people know that, actually, ATCQ was founded two years BEFORE De La Soul, and they're all part of a group credited with bringing jazz and blues melodies into hip hop

I have love for both, but more memories with De La Soul, PLUS they won a grammy as recently as 2006 for a collabo with Gorrillaz...

You do know that Q-Tip was writing for Phife early, right

This point doesn't matter. Pos and Tru(Dave) are light years ahead of Q-Tip and Phife when it comes to lyrics. When it comes to beats, Tribe might have an edge, but De La comes with HEAT! I got De La by a mile.

Tribe ain't FUCKIN' with this!:

and many, many, many more. Lyrically they merck Tribe and musically they go toe to toe until De La rises victorious on sheer consistency. Not to mention concepts! FORGET IT! DE LA GOT THIS!

Horrible decision to make. HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE.

De La is the most creative Hip Hop group ever.
Tribe has some of the all time classics in Music History.

Fuck this poll LOL..

I will not vote. Their albums put me in a place and time before all the fag swag diamond monkey goon thug pop trash the masses now accept as hip hop. Someone said it best already; ATCQ production and head nod appeal and De La Soul for lyrics and concepts. I just wish the masses appreciated this type of rap more than the younglilgucciboywackatellemflame shit.

Every opinion in here should include a list of which albums you own.
I got all of em.

De La Soul, all day.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^

no comparison to me - 3 decades of music from De La and they are still together making good music
tribe had what 8 years?

a tribe called q-tip is still a fav of mine but i dont put em close at all
lyrically pos and dove beene doing ill shit since day one

so why pick tribe? i heard them both at the same show and i got more hype for de la....and thats when i realized de la had better material.... tribe got 5 classic songs.... da la got 5 classic albums.. big difference

 Nigga is you CRAZY!!! Tribe's first three albums didn't have an average (notice I didn't say bad) song on them. From '90 to '94 they had arguably the best run of ANY hip-hop artist or group creatively. I'll put Low End Theory AND Midnight Marauders up against any album you can name from De La and anyone else for that matter(except Illmatic). And I hate to say that because I love De La.

This is loosely related to the convo.:

I'm glad Pos realized there are better MC's out there and gave props to them. Jay Electronica is the Return of the Native Tongue vibe IMO. I think that's the closest you're going to get in the next 5 years or so.

De La all day if I had to choose one!!!

.... but I loved when they were ALL Native Tounge together..

Im more of a De La Soul fan and when I listen to tribe which is rare I like Phife over Q-tip but they work well together so its not bad to listen to.

i like tribe better and its close in my book but im giving it to dela for sticking together and making it this far, still putting out quality music and handling all issues internally so the fans dont have to see you beef.

still love Tribe though.
shout out to Jarobi wherever you are…

$this-^

Including the fact that they remained intact and relevant for 20 years now. And I believe they won a Grammy not to long ago for "Feels Good Inc."

leaning towards Tribe but don't feel right comparing them...not voting either way
