Baseball.........Anybody still interested?

In honor of the new season, who would make the all-time roster of your favorite team? To make it a bit more interesting, only guys who've played during your lifetime can be on this roster, so that it includes guys that you have actually seen on a regular basis.

It's been a struggle being a White Sox fan over the years, especially the last five seasons. Yet, now is one of those times when it's the most fun to be a fan of a team - when the team is really young, and it's clear they are about to become really, really good with the potential of being dominant. Looking forward to seeing other lists.
This is a very good post and great idea. I'll do my Phillies on here soon.   @playahaitian Cuzzo, Get In on this.

Y'all still got time to jump on the bandwagon for your 2022 champs, the San Diego Padres.

After the end of this week, there will be no more.

Great list, JW!!! I've got to think about that second base list, though. I might switch 3 for 2. Manny was no joke. And you probably don't get that 1980 chip without him. Manny and Garry Maddox won that game five in Houston. That 1980 championship series is still the greatest NLCS ever played. And Scott Rolen should be in the Hall of Fame, in my opinion.

Looks like you might have just missed being old enough to see Bill Madlock. He might be the second best Cubs third baseman all-time next to Santo. The brother played 15 years, won 4 National League batting titles, an All-Star MVP, and had a lifetime .305 average, and nobody seems to remember him or gave him any Hall of Fame consideration. The only name I'd quibble with you on is Mark Prior. I think Rick Sutcliffe was a better Cubs starter than Prior, and he was better for more seasons. He got cheated out of a second Cy Young Award in 1987 because that was the year Andre Dawson won MVP, and they didn't want to give two major awards to guys on a last place team. Also, was it hard leaving Bull Durham off of your first base list?

I went back and forth with Madlock, and being born and raised in Chicago Santo was the obvious choice, but I never got to see him play. I went with Cey because of the leadership role he played on the team and that doesn't take anything away from Mad. I chose Prior over Sutcliffe, simply because I think if not for Baker, he would have a better career, again not taking anything from Sut, but Prior, Wood combo had never been defeated back to back until the playoffs. Yeah it was hard to leave Leon off the list, as he was one of my favorite players growing up, if I absolutely had to substitute a 1b pick, I would drop Lee and pick up Durham. To be honesit I really wish wish I could have seen Ernie Banks and Billy Williams play.

Just think what the infield could have looked like, Ivan Dejesus, Julio Franco, Manny Trillo, and Sandberg, shit would have been insane.
Can you imagine Schmidt and Sandberg playing together!!!! :eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2: Here, I'll make me even more sick and give you a little unknown fact. The Cubs actually didn't even want Sandberg!!!! They really wanted Luis Aguayo. Phils negotiated them down to Sandberg because they reasonably thought he wasn't as good. They also didn't want to play Sandberg at 2nd cause Juan Samuel was there. :hithead: I mean, I loved Juan............. but God fuckin damn!!!!:sad::sad:

I always thought the Schmidt/Carlton Phillies should have won at least another championship. That was a STACKED team!!! Then again, the National League was a stacked league back then with the Pirates, Reds and Dodgers being just as good. Also, I see you went with Bake over Von Hayes. BTW, it must have been really cool to be able to hear Harry Kalas every summer and Merrill Reese in the winter. Two all-time iconic voices.

Oh shit, I forgot about Samuel !
Add in that little league stadium that they have now, and it's a wrap for a few seasons.

Yeah, Von had some good years but the teams were so goddam bad his numbers were really insignificant. Phillies should have beaten Baltimore in the 83' series. Paul Owens fucked that up. :smh: Yeah Harry was the best. Right alongside Richie Ashburn (Whitey) (nicknamed for his gray, almost whitish hair not cause he was a crakkka) :lol:and Andy Musser. Some people forgot Andy use to do Big 5 basketball games on Prism as well. And of course Harry was the iconic voice for Inside the NFL game reviews for years. Harry's call of Mike Schmidt's 500th home run is something that will live with me forever!!! Glad the Phillies won the title in 08' and he was able to get another championship ring before he died the next year. One thing about Philadelphia sports is they have always had some of the best announcers in all 4 major sports. Gene Hart for the Flyers, Marc Zumoff for the Sixers, Merrill for the Eagles (though ion fuck wit them bitch ass niggas) Steelers all day but they have had great announcers in Bill Hillgrove and the late great Myron Cope (the creator of the terrible towel). Even legendary P.A. announcers like Dave Zinkoff for the Sixers and Dan Baker currently for the Phillies and Eagles.

Andy Musser was in Chicago for a while. I distinctly remember him doing Bulls games on television for several years. Loved the Zink video. BTW, why was the Spectrum so jacked for a game against the Nets? That video sounded like the Celtics or Lakers were in town.

I'm that was game 5 of the 1st round in 84. Nets upset the Sixers. Road team won all 5 games. Otis Birdsong and Michael Ray Richardson had 24 a piece. Doc got in early foul trouble. :smh:
