Arrow on CW

I'm liking this show. I've never really cared at all about Green Arrow but this series is keeping me interested. They don't shy away from him killing dudes with arrows at all. Is Arrow this blatant in the comics? Seems like he should have a long body count if he is. He really needs some sort of mask though. The black around the eyes isn't cutting it. The security guard's sister in law and the lawyer's friend are both gorgeous by the way...

is it me or does arrow have more black people on the show than treme?

i said that earlier its like the black people increase each show and they have good roles too

by the way this show is good. that Japanese guy made a killer out of him. he had to be a killer to survive. but it looks like everybody wants him to be a angel. they better not turn this into homoville i mean smallville.

Feelin this show....probably because I never followed DC anything...that makes it better.

I don't care about anything people are actually complaining about.

I was thinking that watching the last episode. It's not just "the Black partner" like on "Grimm" or "the Black guy/lady in charge" like "Fringe" but quite a few Black characters in notable places.

So Dinah can fight sometimes...Two episodes ago she takes someone down, but this episode she's helpless?

I like the way he show is going. Black dude said up front "I'm not your sidekick!"

Walter knows his chick is up to something. Also that IT chick is sexy in a nerdy type of way.

Digs is awesome. That line a couple eps ago about how he respects Oliver's perceptiveness after Oliver tells him he doesnt think Digs regards him highly was some cold blooded shit.

Good show so far. I really like the tone and how they don't shy away from shit. Also, as noted, I appreciate the black characters (plural) in notable roles. Some of you are lying to yourselves caring over your Treme hate to this thread (there certainly aren't more black characters Arrow than Treme in notable roles, but I digress). Some obvious silliness aside, this is the surprisingly good new show on right now. I'm turning my pops onto this. The early previews for this series really didn't do it justice.

I like the fact that they're keeping the show violent.

Arrow thru the dudes hand last ep was hard.

i think line was written about me. for the record i don't hate treme. any show that has black characters rejecting tv stereotypes has my respect.

Yeah, this series writers seem to actually KNOW and care that it's based on a fucking comic book...unlike Smallville. Smallville tried so hard to stay away from the comic book stuff that it fucking sucked ass. For example, THIS is a picture of Deathstroke from the Smallville series...:hmm:

Its excellent how they are moving right along. No 5 year wait for someone close to him to find out his secret! No bullshitting on his obvious need for a side kick. Most show s those two plots would have been at least two seasons of nonsense.

My only quirk so far is that bullshit as hood. Around someone that doesnt know him, sure he could probably get away not being recognized. But around his ex in close proximity, non the less, cut the bullshit. I think they are really under estimating the intuition and sub-conscious clues people tend to get around familiar things, in this case people. Even with the voice change: The way he moves, height, build, profile of the lower-face, beard etc...the subconscious catches those things.

Sidenote: I think they could/should expand more on the lead detective, particularly his motives: For example: While killing the bad guys the Arrow has also cause collateral damage. If not then you run the risk of his character coming across as he is now: A DICK!

Dinah does eventually become Black canary one of DC's top martial artists maybe the producers are droping hints at what's to come

'Arrow' First Look: See the Huntress in costume!

arrow-huntress.jpg

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tell me what made you want to introduce the Huntress — and so early in the show’s run, for that matter.

ANDREW KREISBERG: Geoff Johns [from DC Entertainment] was up on the set when we were shooting the pilot and while we were sitting in Vancouver outside freezing our butts off [while] shooting the island sequences, we sat around going, ‘Well, we don’t want to jinx ourselves, but let’s say we do get picked up: What kind of DC characters do you think we can bring to the show?’ And we started spit-balling, I’m not sure which one of us it was but somehow we got this idea for the Huntress.

She is the dark mirror version of Oliver, and it was a nice contrast to him because he’s pretty extreme. He goes a lot further than not only his comic book version but lots of comic book characters — most have a code of draws the line against killing. Our [Oliver] is obviously past that. [So we wondered] what could we do if we brought the Huntress in. Since we already have a character who goes to extremes, how much more extreme can we make her?

What we really liked was that on an emotional level, she and Oliver are both damaged by their pasts. As we say on the show, they’ve both gone through a crucible and come out the other side. This is the way they’re coping, but somehow, Oliver has taken the darkness inside with him and is doing something positive with it. She’s taken the darkness inside her and is seeking revenge and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process. All of these interesting philosophical discussions: What is vengeance? What is justice? Where do you draw the line and how far is too far? And then the fact that she’s hot and Oliver is into her makes it all the more complicated. [Laughs]

What ended up being the answer to your first question — how did you make her more extreme than Oliver?
When you watch the episode, someone close to Oliver is almost killed by the Huntress’ actions and that sets him on his quest. So it’s kind of interesting because in some ways he’s seeking revenge and then he collides with somebody else who’s entire reason for being is revenge. And what’s interesting is that Oliver is on autopilot in some respects as far as his mission. Everything is about the mission and righting his father’s wrongs. And it’s only until he bumps into this sad, damaged, angry but beautiful woman that he realizes how lonely he is and the toll that lying to everybody in his life is taking. So he’s going after a bad guy and he suddenly realizes that he has a lot more in common with her than just about anyone else in his family. That creates this amazing fun relationship for them.

Will we see more of her after her initial appearances?
We hope so. It’s two episodes for now but we definitely hope we see more of her. We certainly set her up as an interesting foil for Oliver and we’re excited to see where else we can take her.

Let’s talk about her costume.
For the Huntress — she’s basically wearing a cape and a purple bikini in the comic. That wouldn’t play so well. So her costume is much more functional while also being sexy and you see there are also hints of purple, which ties into her comic book costume. We also think that on our show, no one is wearing a costume — they are uniforms or outfits. Also, in the comic, Helena is devoutly Catholic. You can see in the Kevlar she’s wearing on her chest, it’s actually in the shape of a cross, which we thought was really cool.

Will her Catholicism play a big part of your TV version of the character?
Her religion has really become revenge. She wears a cross around her neck and that plays a key role in the episode. We don’t touch too much upon the religion, but the iconography is certainly there from the comic books. You can see the DNA of the comic book version in the outfit that our Helena wears. It was just really fun to see because since the pilot, it’s really our first out-and-out hero outfit that we’ve designed, and we really think we’ve succeeded.

Yeah, I know who she is but hate when things change from episode to episode. It insult the audience.

True but we should stop looking at Laurel as Dinah and as a completely separate character, much like his best friend Tommy Merlyn.
She was taken down by the same huge guy that popped Queen and both were taken by surprise so it's plausible that she wouldnt kick his ass. The one time we've seen her do anything, she was stealing on a rich punk in the club so we shouldn't promote her to ninja status just yet.

A lot of people are sitting in prison based on worse circumstantial evidence than they have on Oliver.
But since I doubt the show's ending next week, the family will get a good lawyer to get him out with that being a subplot for a while.

man, I thought this show was going to be on that bullshit but after watching the first 3 episodes I'm hooked now, this show goes hard

Outside of the fight scene and a little bit more inside knowledge into the Green Arrow mythos I was disappointed with the whole plot of him getting arrested etc. First the detectives whole premise for arresting him was juvenile, the "evidence" was flimsy as hell! If anything, you would think he being a "Detective" would keep his suspicion on the low and start paying wayyy more intimate attention to Mr. Olivier Queen. Instead we get this emotional ass cat...WACK!

Secondly, Oliver has to be a dumb-ass his reasoning for this whole fiasco is because of his strange timing with the GWs timing? Fucking really? How many people show up to star city daily? and his logic was they may tie him specifically to the vigilantly? If anything he brought unnecessary heat and ever present attention, even with the not guilty verdict, to himself that I doubt would have ever been there.

In this case though, he has a deep emotional connection to Queen, he holds him responsible for his daughter's death after toying with both of them before his disappearance. He should be emotional because he's down to the last member of his family and will do anything to keep her safe.

Fine and I get that! But even he can't be that naive thinking those bullshit charges would stick. It's been 5 years since his daughters death, surly he could wait another month or so getting solid evidence on the arrow that would stick! No?
Worst it's going to be harder now for Mr.Detective considering O.Q is aware of his very public suspicion.

Man, police try to get people on dumb shit in real life, I find it refreshing to see them do it on tv.:D
