Apple is on it's death bed

Netflix. Wouldn't shock me if they did another Beats Music-sized deal and acquire Netflix. Especially if they're serious about doing content.

Neflix would be way more expensive than Beats. It makes sense and apple has the cash. Neflix is trading at 38B and they would probably need to pay at 20 percent premium at least to get any real action on it. So about 45B... that's a massive acquisition...don't see those that often... I don't think Apple has the nuts to do it.

Throw a dart at a dart board and maybe I'll get a bullseye

Google and Apple are dying...ok...

Google is going to be replaced by Bing

Android is going to be replaced by Windows

Besides the dumb ass comparison to a RAZR. You can't know shit about phones to say that.

At least try to compare it to a company like Blackberry(RIM) or HTC

:smh:
When people say shit like this it cracks me the fuck up!

Apple is seriously slacking and relying on reputation at this point. They need to upgrade all their fucking computers and do something major with the iPhone 7. I love my MacBook Pro, but it should come with better fucking specs.

Kaya just posted a graph for you. If kno..w the current trends is how you make your living, you need to get up on this. It's such standard knowledge in tech right now that you won't get any push back on it. FB is beating the shit out of google on Mobile. @kayanation just posted a chart above.

"Tech-savvy" people rarely use search on mobile, boss. When you're mobile, you're using waze for directions, mobile apps like whatsapp, SC, etc to communicate, and so forth... people on mobile devices aren't primarily trying to "search" for info. They want info "PUSHED"
to them.. they arent "pulling" it on mobile and search is pull technology.

Just listen to the next google earning's report, you'll hear analysts asking them about
this shit repeatedly. It's a real problem for them.

I hear what you are saying but can you up some numbers of the type of people that only use their mobile device?

Like I said earlier, FB is a good platform for some ad campaigns but fails miserably with a majority of others.
FB is killing the game right now because everyone uses it...then top it off with everyone has a mobile device.
The truth is every online marketer worth his salt is throwing up campaigns on FB to test if it is the new wave.
From the circle of top marketers I run with the result is FB just does not convert well.
Using FB's ad platform as a funnel works pretty well but that is about it...but that is just from testing myself and a ton of others in the same industry.

I forgot to mention facebook messenger

:itsawrap:

i can now order an uber right in messenger

test that shit now, text someone and say something like "i'm calling an uber" and a link shows up under the word

fb messenger about to become a marketplace and they are encouraging vendors to create profiles in messenger

they took that shit from china's tencent

more channels for advertisers

you mention food and these advertisers will pay to show up as the link!

this is also the purpose of google now in marshmallow. but barely any phones run marshmallow.

.

Just look up some graphs that show how people use their time on iOS or Android devices. Should find a plethora of that show just how little of it is used to do general web searches. A large percentage is "local" searches and those aren't as monetizable as desktop.

Mobile search as usurped desktop but the problem is that people are doing it less frequently and for different type of searches that aren't as profitable as desktop.

That's a fact based post below but I bet anecdotally it matches up for most people you know. I only do web searches on desktop. It's just not the way I use my phone.

Again, google is a strong business. Kaya is just using language to draw people in... but it's desktop dominance doesn't translate over to mobile. People don't use mobile the same way and then Facebook gobbled up all the big mobile properties.

But check this

"
Google’s growing problem: 50% of people do zero searches per day on mobile"

that a horrible comparison since if i remember correctly motorola failed to adjust with the times

phones went to apps and motorola was running theyre bullshit software

nope not buying it

they killed themselves for failing to be innovative

google actually bought motorola for their patent portfolio and sold the mobile phone business to lenovo.

they wanted the patents. motorola was way more than just phones.

I switched from a PC to a Mac three years ago and I'll likely never go back to a PC for home use. MacBook Pro runs as good now as it did when I got it in 2013; I got maybe two years MAX out of my last three PCS before they slowed down and became basically paperweights (even with upgrades to memory, etc).

if your computers are "slowing down" you are doing it wrong.

I totally agree with what you said in bold and that is the point I am trying to make.

The people that use their devices for their main portal of the internet are not necessarily the ones most marketers are looking for.

I think we can both agree that the majority of "only mobile" users are just fucking around on FB, Twitter and Instagram?

Those are good leads for certain types of ad campaigns but terrible for ones that only convert if they are purchasing something.

For instance, people will shit all over BING and say no one uses that search engine.....BULLSHIT!

The demographic that uses BING, older people who do not know how to change their default search engine out the box but know how to reach for their wallet will always convert like crazy!

Now I am not saying that Facebook is not a monster because that would just be delusional but the average that uses Facebook...mobile or desktop is not primed to buy anything.

Facebook ads are great to use as a funnel...you can put up your ad campaigns, push them to your FB page and them sell to them from there. Facebook is also good for branding but their platform sucks for advertisers selling some shit.

Search is not going anywhere for a very loooooooong time fam.

You can't compare Apple to motorola, because they're more than phones

So is the mac book going away too :hmm:
Kayanation is a damn hack. But I will tell you this, when I see a headline that says Apple wants to buy big companies, I can't help but wonder if Timmy is really a genius. He's going to grow the company that way? Sad. Just sad.

That's not what I'm arguing though. IBM still sells mainframes. I already mentioned above that Google will have a strong business for decades.. just like Microsoft still earns billions from Windows..but it's not a growth business anymore.. it's slowing contracting but massive businesses like that spit out massive profits towards the end of their lifecycles.

I think what Kaya is saying (and it's true) is that their core business is no longer growing and they own a monopoly from a previous paradigm shift whereas Facebook is winning on mobile and it looks like VR/AR is up next and Facebook is way more positioned to win there than Google.

So the argument is about who is in a better position to win the future (for consumer) and FB is much better positioned.

That's what Kaya is saying.. he just used the clickbait shit to get people in..

but short-term...google and Apple are going to EARN 100s of billions in cumulative profits over the next decade.

@kayanation I know this is an Apple thread but I might as well get your opinion on other software that's out there?

What's your thoughts on Splunk? IMO, I think it's overrated and expensive as fuck (granted the people who know Splunk are making a killing...even know some cats working remote doing Splunk shit). Not saying it's not good but it seems like it takes a good minute to get a grip on what it can do. Any alternatives you think are better?

Who are your favorites in the Visual Analytics software field?

So are you saying that their core business is declining(For the long run) or their core business is stagnant at this point?
I just don't understand what you are trying to say.
Laptops/Desktops will never go away and sole mobile surfing is dominated by people who are not in the buyers mindstate.
As far as the push crowd...yes I agree with that.

Now I don't know if Google is slacking on jumping into the mobile race but I personally believe that they do not have to at this point.

Nah Bro, you could ask me anything tech related, most likely I played with it or use it heavily.

Splunk is surviving based on relationships, as you said they are expensive.

Right now ELK and Solr (inc Solr Cloud) is the growing alternative.

I have used both ELK and Solr and for non-enterprise hardened alternative, Solr Cloud wins.

A good managed version of Solr Cloud is Silk by Lucidworks.

For other uses, ELK wins and is super easy to set up and maintain compared to Solr Cloud.

In 10 mins you could set up a 3 node cluster and ingest twitter realtime streaming and create visualizations based on some queries.

Right now everyone is in fuck Splunk mode.

AAPL is in its acquisition "ORCL" phase. Beats is the first in a long line of acquisitions to come & they will make a splash here. Whether its TSLA or NFLX etc. Although neither is really making money , but they have market presence. AAPL may go on a spending spree of unsexy names but black bottom lines.

They will at some point buy a major player when AAPL gets completely stagnant. And they are close to that tipping point.

Shareholders will demand action with the tremendous amount of cash on hand.

Cook is more of a manager than innovator like Jobs , but maybe some young blood will influence buying a key start up that turns into gold. One thing is for sure they will need to increase the dividend to keep people interested. Nothing like profit sharing.

Might want to start your own thread so you can grab not only Kays attention but some of the software guys around here.

Agreed. More expensive than Beats, but makes sense since Apple is making more revenue than ever on Services. Beats helped bolster Apple Music. Netflix would help bolster iTunes and Apple TV. It would make Apple a major player in your living room through the TV. And if they ever get their a la carte TV package off, having Netflix being a part of that bundle would be a major revenue stream for them since it's becoming clearer and clearer that companies can't sustain off of selling hardware alone.

Good article about the big boys going hollywood looking to create content.

Slacking? Google got murdered by Facebook on mobile. The last 3-4 years has been a bloodbath. On mobile, a billion people spend all their time on FB, Whatsapp, messenger, and Instagram. Again, @kayanation posted a chart for you on page 3.

Mobile is where the growth is.

You're making the classic mistake of looking at the present. Google absolutely has to figure out mobile.

And desktop isn't always there. There are entire massive billion user makers that NEVER use desktop environment. They went and are going straight to mobile and leapfrogging desktop altogether (check india, some countries in africa, etc).

Read "The innovator's dilemma" and you'll get it.

It's more than just phones.

The world is changing and apple is lost.

Apple controls the flow of digital content, they're not going anywhere.

The iPhone 7 will do record numbers.

The iPhone 6SE will be the free device for carriers back to school, Christmas, Black Friday if it's not already and will do well.

We shall see.

Apple now makes more revenue from its services than it does from selling Macs. Revenue from services like iTunes, the App Store, iTunes, other internet services, and licensing has increased 20 percent year-over year. It's a shift that means Apple can now generate a steady stream of revenue from existing devices that are accessing its internet-based services that the company controls.

"APPLE PAY IS GROWING AT A TREMENDOUS RATE."

A big part of the services boost comes from a growth in App Store revenue. App Store revenue increased 35 percent year-over-year, and iCloud is also continuing to grow. "Apple Pay is growing at a tremendous rate," admitted Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company's earnings call, noting that there are 1 million new users per week. While Apple Pay is growing, Apple CFO Luca Maestri notes it doesn't "provide a meaningful financial contribution at this point." The overall shift means Apple's services unit is now the company's second largest category during the recent quarter, ahead of Mac and iPad sales but behind dominant iPhone sales.

While services are now ahead of Mac revenue, that doesn't mean the Mac is failing. Mac sales dropped 12 percent year-over-year, but Maestri believes the company "grew market share" despite a "challenging quarter for personal computer sales across the industry." Mac sales generally outperform the rest of the PC market, but sales have declined in both of Apple's 2016 quarters.

It's too early to say what this shift really means for Apple, and whether Macs will rebound in both revenue and sales. Apple recently revealed minor updates to its MacBook and MacBook Air lines, but there's still room for a bigger refresh of the MacBook Pro models. Either way, Apple looks set to continue to generate money from existing devices that access its own services, just like many of its competitors.

Please apple has been making huge profits for years and it is the biggest tech company in the US. So what if there quarterly earnings fell a little short, it isn't the end of apple

What do they do on mobile?
Nothing but FB, Twitter, Instagram and Whatsapp..

Tell me this, have you ever clicked on ads in your FB app? have you ever clicked an ad and purchased something on twitter or Instagram?

You bring up india and Africa?

I do not think we are talking about the same thing family

I am talking about ad revenues not user bases.
