Apple is on it's death bed

You say Billions of people only use mobile?
What do they do on mobile?
Nothing but FB, Twitter, Instagram and Whatsapp..

Tell me this, have you ever clicked on ads in your FB app? have you ever clicked an ad and purchased something on twitter or Instagram?

You bring up india and Africa?

I do not think we are talking about the same thing family

I am talking about ad revenues not user bases.
You're being a little short sighted. Eventually, those users will buy something on there. If online is your home, eventually you have to buy things for it.

Not being short sited at all, Mobile users at this point are not buying shit from FB apps, Twitter Apps etc. When you are on Social networks you are not in the buyers mindstate.

When you are searching for something you are.

Later down the line maybe but at this point people are not buying shit on mobile platforms except for apps and music.

Companies are using FB for sales and branding funnels not direct sales family.

:smh: Stop. While everyone else is missing their quarterly estimates (Google included), FB just blew past estimates ,AGAIN.

Instead of trying to learn, you're trying to argue with me. You don't know what you don't know. I literally know this business inside and out. I used to run an online ad network.

This is such standard knowledge in tech that it's shocking that you're actually attempting to argue with my about it. Basic research lead you to the light man. This is stupid. I'm not wasting anymore of my time.

Facebook Shares Spike On Revenue, Earnings That Beat Estimates

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kathlee...ue-earnings-that-beat-estimates/#1f278cddad9e

Facebook FB +0.13% had another standout quarter, buoyed by its strong mobile advertising business and its success attracting new users to its suite of apps.

The Menlo Park, Calif.-based company reported revenue and earnings for the first quarter on Wednesday that easily beat analysts’ estimates, sending shares up nearly 10% in after-hours trading. Facebook FB +0.13%’s results came after the company reported record revenue and net income in the fourth quarter, despite heavy spending on longer-term projects in virtual reality, artificial intelligence, expanding Internet access globally and hiring thousands of new employees.

Revenue in the first quarter, ending March 31, rose about 51% to $5.38 billion, from $3.54 billion in the same period a year earlier, topping the $5.26 billionexpected on average among analysts polled by Yahoo Finance. The gains were driven by Facebook showing more mobile ads at higher prices, especially video ads. Mobile ad revenue represented about 82%of total sales in the latest quarter, up from 73% in the same period a year earlier. In the U.S., Facebook is expected to capture $10.29 billion in display ad revenue this year, or about 31% of total display ad spending in the U.S., according to forecasting firm eMarketer.

The company posted a profit of $1.51 billion, or 52 cents a share, up 195% from a year-earlier profit of $512 million, or 18 cents a share. Excluding certain expenses, Facebook said it would have earned $2.23 billion, or 77 cents a share, easily topping forecasts of 62 cents a share on that basis. (See the full results here.)

RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Mahaney said in a note before the report that Facebook has ample room to expand its ad business, especially through video ads and new formats. Last year, Facebook said users view 8 billion videos daily. In January, the company said people consumer 100 million hours of video on Facebook every day. The company recently created a dedicated tab for watching videos on the app. Facebook has been successful at showing more ads on its apps without dampening user activity, but will need to closely watch this balance moving forward.

The company should also see more ad revenue growth from Instagram for years to come, thanks in large part to the app’s popularity among millennials. Over the last year, Facebook has ramped up advertising on the app and made it made it possible for both advertisers and users to post videos up to 60 seconds in length. In 2016, Instagram is expected to have mobile ad sales of $1.3 billion in the U.S. and $1.53 billion worldwide, according to forecasting firm eMarketer. Instagram recently announced it plans to organize users’ feeds by an algorithm instead of by its current chronological order.

User growth in the latest quarter was strong. Total monthly active users grew 15% to 1.65 billion, from the same period a year earlier. Before earnings, Mahaney estimated that Facebook would see year-over-year monthly active user growth of 13%, down from 14% in the fourth quarter. Year-over-year, daily active users in the latest quarter increased by 16% to 1.09 billion. Facebook FB +0.13% has been seeing increasing engagement levels across geographies, Mahaney said.

The social network faces increasing competition from younger social players like Snapchat, particularly in the battle for teen users. But user activity on Facebook FB +0.13%’s suite of apps continues to grow. Facebook FB +0.13%-owned messaging app WhatsApp recently reached 1 billion monthly active users, while the standalone app Messenger has 900 million monthly active users. Instagram has more than 400 million monthly active users. Facebook FB +0.13% also reported earlier this year that Groups reached 1 billion users for the first time. Currently about 60 billion messages are exchanged per day on WhatsApp and Messenger, compared to about 20 billion messages today via SMS texts at their peak, the company said. Users create more than 1 billion posts on Facebook per day.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg laid out the company’s 10-year roadmap at Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference earlier this month. Zuckerberg unveiled new Messenger bot tools for businesses, which make it possible for users to chat with artificially intelligent bots built on the app. Facebook has drastically expanded the functionality of Messenger over the past year. Facebook’s concierge tool “M,” which is available to a small subset of users in the Bay Area, can help users complete a range of tasks, such as finding a stroller to order, purchasing clothing, making restaurant reservations, ordering flowers and retrieving information. Even without “M,” Messenger users can hail Uber and Lyft rides, book flights, make voice and video calls and send stickers, among other features. At F8, Zuckerberg also emphasized the company’s focus on artificial intelligence technology, improving global connectivity, advancing virtual reality (VR), especially social experiences in VR and expanding live and real-time sharing tools. Since Facebook last reported earnings in January, the company rolled out “Emoji Reactions,” its first extension of its trademark “Like” button. Facebook said that in tests the feature boosted users’ engagement with posts

Facebook reported that first-quarter expenses grew 29% from the same period a year earlier to $3.37 billion.

“We had a great start to the year,” Zuckerberg said in Wednesday’s release. “We’re focused on our 10-year roadmap to give everyone in the world the power to share anything they want with anyone.”

Facebook rose .12% to $108.89 during regular trading on Wednesday. The stock is up about 4% this year as of Wednesday’s close.

Fuck. Just saw the FB news. I remember when there were concerns that FB couldn't figure out mobile and their stock dipped. They are straight killing it now. When they really got Facebook Live rolling, the updates to Messenger and the bots, continuing to blow out Instagram, and Lord knows what else they got planned for Oculus and WhatsApp, Facebook is going to be a juggernaut for the foreseeable future.

I'll believe it when I see it. Oracle was an M&A machine. Apple is sitting on damn near a quarter trillion in cash and they still aren't buying companies. Beats might remain an anomaly.

I connected with the guy who was driving all those acqs

a brother too

Yeah. They're killing it.. growth actually ACCELERATED which is crazy for a business that big and that had already growing 47%... grew 51% from last year.. revenue run rate of over 20B with 80% of that from mobile.. that's bananas.

Bro what they are talking about has nothing to do with my point.
These niggas are basically cheerleading for a company that has inflated expectations.
Facebook's ad platform is known to not convert for a lot of markets. So the growth you are seeing is all fluff and will die eventually.
Search will always be the top ad platform just by simple mathematics.

Bro

we are moving towards personalization.

google that

that means companies who can:
1. identify a customer i.e. identity
2. have so much demographic data that you can do machine learning e.g. recommender systems
3. have so much feedback e.g comments that you can then do sentiment analysis and what we are working on now namely emotion analysis

is winning............

An advertiser can run a campaign on fb, see the performance, see the feedback via comments and create a feedback loop to take some action

You type a lot of words but post no numbers.

Post some numbers to back up your position or go the roy jones route

I never thought that they were not tech geeks but they are speaking from one side of the technical universe. They are not marketers bro..they are going off of what the "tech industry" is saying.

The truth is Facebook's ad platform is trash and inflated hype. You can make a lot of money just off of projections and hype..ask Twitter.

I keep stating that creating funnels and brand recognition is perfect for FB but for the majority of "BUY NOW" markets the traffic does not convert.

People on social networks are not there to BUY and never will be!

It doesn't matter if it is desktop or mobile...a nigga on fucking FACEBOOK is not looking to buy a damn house from an ad he has seen on there. Shit display ads are hard to convert unless your keywords are trump tight.

Search is where it is at and that is for a very looooong time whether it is desktop of mobile.

A introverted nerd that sits and codes all day can not tell you how to sell some shit.

.

LOL. I had a SEO company in the fucking 90s man... when people were still using Alta Vista..

I bet you if you named a list of top web marketers right now that I probably have a few of them on speed dial..no bullshit.

As a matter of fact, some of these guys show me their new marketing material before it goes live to get my feedback on it.

and @largebillsonlyplease can vouch because he's seen transcripts of some of my talks with them.

I dont' care because I didn't lead with this shit because it wasn't necessary but since you're going there.

I know enough about marketing to 'market' myself as a T-shaped marketer if I wanted to.

But this is stupid.. you can have at it.. I'm out...I'm okay with your sticking w/ your view

Fam trust me I get that.
But you have to understand..The basement coder knows how to make the shit but they do not know how to sell bro!!!
For instance...Apple has it's ALIEN brain, nerdy introverted lames who come up with the tech...Do you think them same people are the ones who put together the advertisement and marketing campaigns?

Kaya and dude can spit the projected jargon but they do not know shit about the market...THE SHIT THAT MAKES ALL THIS WORK!

My comments were aimed towards the market not the tech. They know the tech..I know the market.

so if tech people don't know the market then were are the tools you are using coming from?

do you not understand how products are created?

where do you get your metrics from?

some nerd wrote the code

how do you select your demographic?

some nerd wrote the code

well guess what?

products are not necessarily created in the mind of the "nerd" but rather a collection of people including people who know the domain inside out

so for you to think products are created by people who know tech and don't know the market is bull

in fact i'll put it to you that google si losing touch with the market hence their decline

and this is what i experienced inside their campus not some article i read

Can you elaborate on how google is loosing touch with the market?

what is google's 3-5 growth plan?

what is apple's 3-5 growth plan?

First off, a lil disclosure. I own FB, Apple, Alphabet and Twitter stock. I've run ad campaigns on both FB and Google platforms. I'm not an analyst.

Saying google is dead is laughable. Google is much more than advertising. Yes advertising pays the bills but Google has the most viable longterm bets of any company out there - Medical (verify / life science / calico), content (YouTube), game changing internet provider (fiber), cellphone provider (project fi), cloud, software (android, gmail, chrome), think tank (jigsaw), building a city from scratch (sidewalk labs). Self driving cars. Any of which has the potential to outpace the ad revenue in year to come. No company is that deep with innovation.

I can go on and on about the medical stuff but it's boring, yet with extreme potential for profit and game changes. I could go on about how YouTube could flip one switch and kill Netflix and Amazon video. Google could buy T-Mobile or sprint and dominate cellphones carries. Google stepped into the ISPs space with fiber and had Comcast shook.

That not to mention that Google is currently on a test drive with Twitter. They are in bed together not to run Twitter ads but for Twitter data. Google is a data company first and foremost. They take data and make it useful. They took search data and figured out where to post adds. They using Twitter data for the same. If Twitter doesn't run a single ad, it's still valuable to Google.

For example, take google maps. Maps seemed boring, until Google got in the game and now you can't travel or go away wear without dropping the address into Maps for turn by turn navigation. Now that we are conditioned and reliant on maps for day-to-day habits and lifestyle the map data gains value. Google know knows where you at all the time. What stores you visit, how long you stay etc. Soon Google Maps will start serving you ads and conditioning you to rely on them for purchase. Google plays the long game.

If Google just captured the public bus routes with its self driving cars, it would be a huge income generator. Did y'all forget Google was an initial investor in Uber. When Uber settles he regulatory hurdles with taxis and on demand transportation, Google will come a knock to collect its chits. Über will increase profit margin by getting rid of drivers and using googles driverless cars instead. See longterm.

Apple plays the finesse game. They make products a luxury so you aspire to having them. They will always be able to sell the next iPhone as long as it is an aspirational purchase. Apples product bench is not as deep, but they product an essential to access the pipeline - the cellphone. Apple sees the car as the next iPhone. The problem with Apple is that they have no track record outside of tech.

FB is a young Apple. Zuck is Jobs reincarnated. A company built around a personality is not a good longterm strategy. I started by mentioning that I've run ad campaigns on both FB and Google. Facebook still has a long way to go with enhancing its conversions algorithm. Google again has data to a science.

If all you look at is who has the next best app, you'd think that snap chat, messenger and FB were the winners. Apps come and go... Social networks come and go... Data is the king.

If all you look at is who has the next best app, you'd think that snap chat, messenger and FB were the winners. Apps come and go... Social networks come and go... Data is the king.

Great post!

Hey fam can you tell the board the big difference between a campaign on Google search platform and Facebook?

Also would you agree that the Facebook demographic is not the best for BUY NOW campaigns.

Google again has data to a science.

nah homie

what you started out listing is stuff google is throwing at the wall

all companies are data companies first and foremost

shocked that you didn't mention fb and their unique data

google+ was supposed to create what fb has, an entire profile of a person tied to a unique id

and they failed with that

in addition personalization will see search becoming less relevant

concerning twitter: that channel is way too noisy, try doing sentiment analysis for a brand on that, location is not there most of the time, id is not there, and there is a LOT of spam

google fiber was a way of forcing the market to step up, google has no plans to get into infrastructure like fiber, that is capital intensive and a very long term play that has no winners. carriers are still paying off for 3G equipment

google fi: again pushing the market but not going to be some sustained market google is wanting to be in

self-driving car: don't know why people think this is going to be some proprietary technology that 1 company will possess. google is not going to make cars so if you think they are going to license their proprietary self-driving algorithm and that will make them a winner then i telling you that won't work either. See qualcomm, they possess most of the 4G patents, how are they doing?

Last important item mofos are missing:

to win you need the best talent, to attract them and keep them

apple is laying off all their contract recruiters and some of their full-time recruiters

someone tell me what this means

Simply put, advertising dollars are spent for 1 of two purposes -- to create brand awareness or to convert a sale. FB is marginally acceptable for brand awareness campaigns but Google is far superior for sales conversions.

Most of FB ad revenue comes from institutional agencies that allocate online advertising to a specific platform. FB is the flavor of the month. They will try the newbie FB for a few then eventually go back to old reliable - Google. The only platform better for conversion than Google is tv ads. There is just something every powerful about tv ads.
