Apple 'Investigating' Serious New iPhone Failures

Apple’s new iPhones are the talk of the technology world. But following the chaotic launch of iOS 11 (and two equallyproblematic updates), reports of a serious fault with the iPhone 8 Plus is the last thing Apple needed…

Speaking to the Independent, Apple confirmed it is investigating reports the iPhone 8 Plus is suffering from a severe battery failure which literally causes the sides of the smartphone to burst open. Currently incidents are limited (popular Apple site MacRumors reports several more) but this is clearly something Apple is taking very seriously.

Apple has launched three new iPhones, but the iPhone 8 Plus (middle) has received reports of a serious battery problem

At this stage little is known about the fault, though the Independent’s states Apple believes the problem is caused by “battery swelling” and it is not thought to pose a safety concern like Samsung’s infamous problem with exploding Galaxy Note 7 batteries.

That said Apple has had its own battery problemsduring the last year and initiated a battery recall program for some iPhone 6S models.

Following Apple and Samsung’s problems scrutiny of smartphone batteries, their reliability and safety has been a top priority across the industry. Samsung in particular has made dramatic strides forward in 2017 having launched its class leading 8 Point Battery Safety Check program and substantially reduced annual battery decay in its latest smartphones.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 suffered explosive battery problems and was withdrawn from sale

Needless to say the hope is these latest iPhone 8 Plus incidents remain few and far between. But while we await the results of Apple’s investigation I would point out you should be buying a different iPhone model anyway…

These smartphone companies, Apple or Non-Apple can't do fuck all right and still get to charge $1000 per unit. Smh

You're buying it wrong

A fresh case of Apple Inc’s new iPhone popping open due to a swollen battery has been reported in state media in China, the world’s biggest smartphone market where the U.S. firm is seeking to revive faltering sales.

The incident comes as Apple investigates similar cases reported in Taiwan and Japan of batteries in its latest iPhone 8 Plus becoming bloated, causing the device’s casing to open.

On its website on Thursday, China’s state-backed ThePaper.cn cited an iPhone buyer surnamed Liu as saying his newly purchased iPhone 8 Plus arrived cracked open on Oct. 5. There was no sign of scorching or an explosion.

Liu told ThePaper he bought the handset through online marketplace of JD.com Inc. He said he did not charge the new device and returned it to the seller.

Pictures taken by Liu and displayed on ThePaper’s website showed an iPhone 8 plus split open along the side featuring the sim card holding, with the phone’s internal parts visible.

An Apple spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter and declined to comment further.

The incident comes as indifferent reviews of the iPhone 8, which comes 10 years after Apple released the first version of the revolutionary phone, drove down shares of the company since the handset’s launch.

Some investors worry whether pre-orders for the device were well below previous launches, although some Apple fans are waiting for the premium iPhone X due out in early November.

iPhone 8 Plus Reportedly 'Exploded' in Taiwan While Charging

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco is still fresh in many people’s minds; now disturbing reports from Taiwan are suggesting that the new iPhone 8 Plus ‘exploded’ while charging.
The iPhone 8 has been out for just one week in Greater China, but the Taiwanese media report is raising some concern about the new phone, especially its battery.

According to Taiwanese media reports, a woman named Wu, from Taichung city purchased an iPhone 8 Plus last Saturday.

The device worked fine until Tuesday afternoon when it "blew up" while charging.

Photos and videos of the damaged phone have gone viral online.

They demonstrate that the iPhone did not explode into flames but instead the phone's screen was pushed up, maybe due to an inflated battery.

Wu reportedly tried charging her phone when its battery life was at 70 percent and she used the original iPhone charger. The explosion occurred during the day and thankfully there were no causalities.

Wu herself is allegedly an avid Apple fan and has been purchasing their products since iPhone 4.

The device was sent to an Apple facility for inspection to find out what went wrong.

While no findings have yet been released, many have pointed to the battery as being the problem.

There have been reports of the iPhone 8 Plus battery expanding while charging, splitting the device open.
