I'm a car expert 3 luxury cars that cost more to fix than they're worth

Luxury cars aren’t known for their affordability, and they can even cost more to fix than they’re worth.

According to Kelley Blue Book (KBB), the average transaction price for an entry-level luxury car was $56,846 in July 2025, while higher-end models average about $120,654. That’s more than double the price of the industry average of $48,841.

And while the sticker price is steep, the real financial strain often shows up later. Here are three luxury cars where repair and maintenance costs can outweigh the investment.

Earning passive income doesn't need to be difficult. You can start this week.

Tesla

“Once a Tesla needs a new battery, it’s often a better option to buy a new car than to buy a battery that is worth more than what the car is worth,” Melanie Musson, auto industry expert with AutoInsurance.org, wrote in an email. “Depending on the car and the battery required, a new one could cost $15,000 or more.”

In some cases, EV batteries can last between 10 and 20 years, according to J.D. Power, but there are factors that can reduce their lifespan. Batteries degrade faster in hotter climates, and charging the battery at a Level 3 fast charging station can overheat the battery as the process is too quick.

And if you’re battery lasts that long, you may need to pay out of pocket. Tesla’s entry-level options only provide a warranty duration of eight years or 100,000 miles, but premium models come with coverage of up to 150,000 miles.

Land Rover

“Land Rovers can be a nightmare to work on. They’re hard to repair, and the parts are expensive,” Musson wrote. “If you have to get a new transmission, it could cost $10,000. The suspension, which is prone to failure, will cost around $4,000 to repair. Once repairs start piling up, it’s easy to see why buying one past its warranty is risky.”

According to KBB, Land Rovers have the highest maintenance and repair costs over 10 years of ownership, averaging about $19,250 over the decade.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is also known for its costly repairs.

They depreciate quickly, so at a certain point, it’s not worth rebuilding the transmission that would cost as much as $6,000,” Musson explained. “When Mercedes-Benz vehicles start having problems regularly, it’s probably a good idea to get a replacement vehicle.”

CarEdge found that Mercedes-Benz models average around $12,962 in maintenance and repair costs over their first 10 years — more than the industry average for luxury brands. There’s also a 41.24% chance of a major repair being required during that time.

And when compared with other luxury brands, Consumer Reports noted that Mercedes costs more than twice as much to maintain and repair over ten years as similarly-priced luxury brands like Lincoln.

I have a friend with a rover and it's always something going on with it. You can have them shits.

Ninjas buy car far out of warranty. If you bought it new, you know how it was driven and maintained. If you cop any used car that shit should have the balance of the factory warranty or an affordable extended warranty. Those joints sit on buy here pay here lots because they’re always at auction. The fact that few people know Land Rovers are shit is baffling.

Buying a slightly used still under warranty luxury vehicle was the move. Even better if you could extend the manufacturer's warranty. But used car prices are ridiculous these days. Manufacturers want you to lease, payment plans forever like Amazon Prime, Netflix, iCloud, perpetually renting never owning anything.

Can anybody recommend a 5 seater SUV with enough room for a HETEROSEXUAL couple to fuck in the backseat comfortably?

I had to put that in capital, can't have some of you mantusslers giving the wrong dimension.

Is Range Rover doing this on purpose?.... They have to know the history of the range rover, but year after year it is not reliable.

Range rovers are mostly leased . They are OK for the first 3 years . Once they are turned back in you have pretend ballers buying them used right when the issues start. Range rovers fall apart at the 3 year mark and will kill the average person on maintenance.

Rich people that do have them lease them but also have multiple cars and use the range on occasion then get rid of that shit once the lease is up. Then the stupid asses go and buy them right when the air shocks go out and costs them 10k to replace. Then the chain reaction of implosions starts.

Why can't they make a range rover that lasts longer?....like a toyota or lexus?......is this on purpose?

Because they pack them with electronics and shit like Air suspension which is wild expensive , especially when it breaks. The suspension going out is one of the most expensive rape jobs on a range.

My rule of thumb is if I see them at Buy here-Pay here lots its a shit car. I have a year left on my car, I’m trading that bitch in after the first major bill. Still there are cars you don’t touch without a warranty: Maserati, BMW, Range/Land Rovers, Alpha Romeo.

As I stated, high end cars depend on who owned it. Others it’s just the parts. There was a Rolls Wraith in the showroom when I copped my newest whip, the dude looked at me and shook his head. LMAO! He said they repair em, and a particular brake line is $4000. And you gotta order it and wait weeks.

Not a luxury car, but an expensive sports car. The Mazda RX-7. The twin turbos are a pain in the ass, and you have to find a specialist that works on rotary engines when something goes wrong with the engine.

I remember it was the shit back in the day....

Cars are scams.
Just need something from point A to point B.
That being said a Range Rover and that Benz GT is serious.
This is a fact. Just have something that's comfortable with enough features to keep you happy. I swear, if I were to ever win the lottery I would just get either an Acura or an Infiniti SUV and keep it pushing. I probably wouldn't even buy a brand new SUV. What is the point. It doesn't matter if my ass is the first ass that was in the seat.

Dumb ass gay nigga. Imagine spending over 100k for a car to flex and that shit keeps breaking down. I don’t know why niggas keep giving these crackas all that money for that giant trash box . Oh that’s right, they want to show off and impress people who don’t give a flying fuck about them or what they have.

i have a co-worker that has a 2023 Range Rover. And she said that in the 2 years she's had it, its damn near been to the shop every month.
Suspension, a/c issues, you name it.

I have a Mercedes suv myself, and just purchased a Mercedes CLS 550 on Friday.

Mercedes is trash too , my attorney just traded in her 2023 C63 AMG for a Lexus IS350. Said the AMG was pure mechanical trash. All the ambient lighting inside went out too. Just a piece of German trash

My wife drives a gle 350 and that shit is nice and smooth to drive, but then again all she does is the school run and Pilates
I can understand why people love them… but I abuse the shit out of my cars so I can’t drive any expensive ones

i was able to drive the 2024 GLE 350 for a week last month, while my suv at the dealership for them to fix a recall on the airbags and brake boosters.
That was a very nice ride. Just a tad bit on the small side for me. Loved the high tech digital dash and 4D navigation.

Driving a car to a few miles a day is not driving. At that point why not get a piece of shit just to get around.

The fact that he didn’t know anything named ROVER is pure ass is on him. They’re the fucking worst. I remember my uncle loooooving Lincoln Town Cars. Had several of em. ALL of em the air suspension blew out the ass sagged like a baby’s diaper. Every damn Lincoln town car that you saw broke down in somebody’s yard, it looked like a low rider. I never touched Lincoln’s after that. My sister bought one about 10 years ago, issues out the ass! When I tell you I looked at a Lincoln Aviator, I googled it and saw they have air ride issues. Land and Range Rovers are shit! The C8 Corvette is a huge fucking fail. Transmissions last 6 blocks. Just google any car you want. It’s not hard.

Didn't know that about C8 Corvettes. A fucking shame with the cost of one :smh:
sidebar: every time they change the engine/body the price goes up $10k+

The worse edition yet. I was obsessed with it. I have the C7 and was gonna trade for the C8. I roll up for my oil change and I usually roam the showroom and lot to look at em. Well, on this day, as I pull up to the service garage, there was maybe 20 Vettes lined up, all needing service. Transmissions, electrical issues, misaligned fenders and panels, peeling dashboards, check engine (which means your Tranny is going). They have 3 scheduled maintenance issues where if you don’t get it done when it said they void your warranty; all under 7500 miles.
