Anyone Fucking with VR?

My wife bought me the Microsoft Mixed Reality, Dell's version and I cannot put this shit down. I am spending so much time playing SuperHot, Space Pirate Trainer, and Arizona Sunshine that I have been losing track of time. My kids have been looking at me sideways because I have been hogging the fuck out of the setup. I am thinking about building a dedicated VR rig and purchasing the Samsung version of Mixed Reality and giving the kids my Dell.

SUPERHOT VR

VR Laser Battles - Space Pirate Trainer

VR ZOMBIE Co-op Shooter - ARIZONA SUNSHINE

The youtube videos don't do it justice. When you are in VR, that shit is like being in the future. FUCKING AMAZING!

Explains alot.

I got the PStation jawn and although I know its not hardly as good as some of the above set-ups, its good enough to get a good idea of how awesome VR is. When I get my weight up I'm going to invest in one of the other joints, but the question I have is does any of them have a wireless headset yet at a reasonable price point? Btw (no disrespect) but OP, could u casually mention to your wife that Theart wants one of those jawns too? Ijs...

It's a gimmick. PSVR too expensive, too many cables and not fun at all. Returned that shit

Agree on the cables.
It just needs better games. More big budget games/studios. Right now most of the games are bloatware and tech demos, and tacked on VR.

The games need to be built from the ground up for VR and FULL length games.
Example,
Resident Evil 7 was amazing and terrifying. They worked on that for years. Trying to go back and play that game on a T.V was laughable. Theres nothing gaming on a TV can do to mimick actually BEING in that house. VR is the ONLY way to play that game imo.
If they can get more well known franchises/games as well done as that, it will move units.

heck, if you let me tell it, the biggest potential for VR isnt even for gaming.
Google Earth VR, man listen...

I already know what her response would be so no need to ask. Regarding your other question, there is a wireless adapter. I will post it when I get home from practice.

I'm a big VR fan, rocking the Valve Index with a Alien Ware 51 rig, so maybe I can answer some questions you guys are thinking.

Does VR suck? Hell no, once you go full VR it's hard going back to normal gaming systems. The only caveat is that you may have to pay extra to get the full experience.
Is it a gimmick? No, it's its own experience it kinds of reminds me of 2005 PC gaming where you needed power under the hood in order to reach its full potential, however, like the early PC gaming, the games are only as good as the developer's attention to detail because back then even though PC games had more power to play with, they often had much smaller budgets than their counsel counterparts, so while you would get better quality when done right, often those experiences were few and far apart. I will say with the VR, things are growing really fast, and the games are actually cheaper. I have around 100 games where I estimate 50% of them are good, 20% are great 2% suck, while the rest include Boneworks, Halflife Alex, Saints, and Sinners, Onward and Final Assult are on some next level shit.
How is VR Porn? Short answer, you get what you pay for. Being a BGOL vet I can't remember the last time I've paid for porn, and at first, it was the same with VR Porn because sites like X-hamster does allow you to cop VR Porn for free and it was all good, that is until I got a chance to see full 6k 120 fps VR Porn, after that I only cop high-end VR Porn, for about 7 dollars a pop, I know paying for porn seems sacrilegious to some but trust me there is nothing more real looking than high-end VR Porn. If I had that shit when I was a 12-year-old pre-teen, my nuts would have dropped the next day.

Is there a big difference between the high-end Index vs older headsets or cheaper models? First, let me answer can you have a good experience with an older headset? Yes. What are the main differences, for one comfort, where the better sets tend to fit your head much better and don't place much pressure over the bridge of your nose, the difference between my original Vive headset and the Valve Index is day and night, whereby the index feet more like a glove. Next, the higher end and newer models tend to have higher graphics this makes a big difference as well as the refresh rates for that silky smooth ultra-realistic emersion experience.

Is it hard to set up? Well depends on the make and the model of the setup, for example, the Vive and the Index have external lighthouse trackers that have to be properly mounted and being that I have mirrors in my cave, in order for me to get the proper tracking I am forced to cover my mirrors with a cloth. What's fucked up is I had no way of knowing this when I first brought it and was clueless to why my tracking sucked, but once I found out about the mirror hack my VR experience been damn near perfect.

Helpful things to know before buying: One of the biggest things I questioned was how good is it at allowing you to play in a limited space ie your living room or a small bedroom. While I cannot tell you how it is for the quest or any other headset, I will can say that the Vive and the Index does a great job of chaperoning the player giving you markers to help you destroy your room. You can also adjust the subtlety but I strongly advise new players to set the help all the way up, because once you are in the game its literally like your in another world.
Another thing that is good knowing is that the Vive and the Index parts are compatible, you can use the Vive controllers with Index headset and the Vive lighthouse trackers.

Most disappointing things that happen with my VR:

1-Breaking my wall-mounted TV while playing VR. Remember I said, you should leave your chaperone one high while playing, well short story this is why. I was trying to throw a grenade in a room filled with enemies so I manually pulled one off my belt, aimed and tossed it at them, the only problem is my TV came from nowhere and jumped in the way. The set cracked and I had to buy a new one.

2-Broke a controller had to spend a buck on a new one, I think mines hit the desk while playing. This was on me because I was being mad reckless, lesson learned so never again.

3- My original Vive headset got damaged due to a water leak from a flood. It only took a drop, but to be honest I am glad I upgraded, can't think about going back.

4- Brought a Protube rifle stock for vr fps games so I can use it to emulate real riffle, to top things off I decided to buy a haptic feedback gun butt that supposed to give it a real kickback while firing your VR gun. But sadly I am still waiting for a gun that was supposed to arrive at me 5 months ago, their bullshit excuse is that they changed from the 1 to the 2nd version with more bells and whistles for the same price. I would have said fuck you, kiss my ass, if I didn't want it really really badly. Now with this corona shit, I may have to wait a few more months.

5- Brought a Thrustmaster steering wheel, one that supposed to work with both P.C. and Xbox (which I also own) but for some reason, my VR racing games Assetto Corsa and Project Cars supports every wheel known to mankind except mines. I contacted Thrustmaster and the games, but nobody has given me a workaround solution. I still have the brand new wheel packed up and I think I saw somewhere online that there finally away to play it on VR, something I may test over the next few days while locked down.

My best experiences on VR:

1- had a female friend come over she wanted to check it out, I put on my VR Paradise strip club joint, where I help her get off while she was watching the show. BTW VR Paradise is by far the best and to me only sex game worth getting.

2- Playing Onward with my ProTube stock rifle, basically this is a metal tubing with magnets and controller mounts that turns your control into a virtual rifle gun. It may not look like a real gun, but in the game, it looks and feels just like a rifle, the only problem is when you have to pull off your controller, you have to detach the strong magnets, grab what you going to grab and use it, then to get back to the gun you have to do the same thing in reverse all blinded. It's a lot easier than it sounds and I never ran into any trouble, outside of cracking my TV set as aforementioned.

3-Watching NBA games, Netflix and other movies on a giant virtual TV or a virtual Movie theatre. The VR theatre is amazing especially when they are showing 3d movies, it actually looks and feels like a real movie theatre with real people there seated watching along with you.

4- This is random as fuck and it may not technically be my best experience on VR but Google Earth VR is cool as fuck, the graphics are simply amazing but there are some nights such as corona lockdown nights where VR traveling to different places in the world is almost a real as being there.

What type of person is VR for? If you love first-person shooters, driving games and porn and if you ever wanted to know how it feels to actually be in the game, then VR is for you.
If you are a seasoned P.C. gamer who wants to step his game to something a little bit mature and immersive, then P.C. is for you.

Who isn't it for? If your into games like fortnight or you like socializing with people online with other gamers then maybe VR isn't for you right now. Don't get me wrong VR has a hardy community of die-hard owners, but even the most optimistic VR gamer will have to admit to you that the VR community is light years behind the console community when it comes to the social online experience.

What do I expect from the future? As in the case of most new tech, the prices for VR are way too high right now, but I like most expect prices to gradually drop while the tech gets better, but where I really expect VR to take off is in the development department, this is due to the first big-name high budget projects such as Boneswork, and Halflife Alex are not only VR gems, but they also are games that made a profit while on a big budget. I also expect the consoles to play a little catchup with both Sony and Xbox getting better specs gaining more players and allowing VR games to reach a wider platform of players. This will cause prices to drop and a bigger project to be worked on.

My top VR games.

Keep in mind that video shots of the game don't come close to doing these games any justice once you see a good VR game the way its meant to be played and guarantee you will feel like you are living in the future.

The stock Quest is not comfortable for a long period of time, so I tricked mine out as a FrankenQuest.

One of the downsize is the 2hr battery life. This is easily solved by buying a battery bank, any would do but I chose the VR Power one that gives me an extra 8 hrs. of play I use the VR power and it works as a perfect counterbalance.

The untethered experience cannot be beat. I have seen some videos of the guardian mode that was the size of a tennis court or a parking garage. That would have prevented you from tearing up your shit lol. I even take mine outside on my covered 15x45 patio.

How big is the maximum playspace for Oculus Quest? Test in a public parking garage!

The Quest guardian mode is phenomenal. The unit also has external cameras, which kick on as soon as you break the defined guardian barrier. It also has a sit or standing mode. Perfect for watching games, movies, and tv shows. The watching experience is better than anything that a movie theater can offer plus I can watch shit from my personal movies on a 100ft screen, the shit is fucking amazing.

Playing VR is mad disorientating after playing for a long time. VR transports you to a different world and coming back to this fucked up corona infested place requires a 5-10 second adjustment.

The only downsize is graphic fidelity is not going to match a tethered experience but in a lot of cases, it comes very close especially if the devs do a good job with the port.

Flight sims are Fucking amazing, there is a game called war thunder which is a free game, sure you may pay a few bucks for a few planes and tanks but its not play to pay. Anyways its fucking amazing especially if you have a good Thrustmaster setup.
Racing games are also hot, but one thing to keep in mind is that your rig should have the power to push the frame rate in all games if not you may get a little disorientated. I had the top of the line video card and computer to push it, but that was a year ago, now I can push most games a max but have to scale down when it comes to monster games, but the good news is that the developers are always updating and optimizing games, so I imagine as time goes on this will be less of an issue.

I don’t have a PC, just an Apple Air and a couple of iPads. Does War Thunder work as well with the Oculus Quest stand-alone headset?
