Any BGOL Bloggers here?

I was reading through D Town Redd's old thread Free Hustle Tip #9: Getting traffic to that blog and I realized although some of the info still holds true, some of it is outdated.

If it wasn't for D Town Redd, my site wouldn't be what it is today. I think I am about less then a year away from being able to live off of my site 100%. The info that I learned on BGOL is invaluable. If you were around in 2008 to pick up on the knowledge from D Town's "Make Money Series" you should currently have a nice little side hustle.

Depending on how much traction this thread gets... I will post tips on things that have helped me along the way. Also, for the newbies, if you have any questions, I will be glad to help.

For the BGOL bloggers who are on the board, please post your site(s) links, and how they are doing. Use this thread to pay it forward, by posting tips. True to BGOL fashion all links posted will make money from "link love". :)

Right on time boo, I have five blogs, please drop some info and also point out what info is outdated. I'm trying to get traffic to my sites to sell the domains.

Post the sites... BGOL provides endless traffic. You should put the sites in your sig as well.

I know their are a lot of people who go for your throat here... but when it comes to making money everyone looks out for each other.

I've got one blog which I haven't touched in a few months (slacking I know).

If you've got some hints on how to make some decent money with blogging then please drop the info.

There are a couple of ways to make money from Blogging... here are some.

1. Various Ad networks. i.e. Ad Sense, etc...

2. Domain sales... I am not real familiar with this one. You guys know more about this then me.

3. Website Sponsorships/ Partnerships through large companies. My site was picked up by a national clothing retailer as soon as I made my year mark. I have a 1 year contract.

4. Hosting events... this is another way I make money. Companies approach Bloggers to introduce products.

5. Consulting work... I also make money doing this for people looking to get started in blogging and wanting to know about monetizing. Also if you are an expert in a particular field conferences approach you to come an speak. You get paid doing this as well.

6. Freelance Blog Work... companies pay you to come write for their sites.

7. In House Bloggers: Companies... manly large publications reach out to established Bloggers to come run their blogs and/ or social media sites.

Ummm those are the top 7 off the top of my head.

There is an abundance of information about how to make money. But the real to making money is driving traffic.

What are some ways to drive traffic to your blog/website?

1. SEO is important, but much of what you find is snake oil. To make your site come up in search especially google search has a lot more to do with other blogs/websites linking to your content. Good content will get people to link to you.

2. Post often. Once someone comes to your site after finding something interesting. They will come back, especially if they register, but if your content gets stale, they will stop coming.

3. If you own your domain name, go ahead and register it for more than a year. Registration sites will offer you 1 year or multi year registration options. Go ahead and do a multiyear. Google does pay attention to this.

4. Visit blogs and websites that share your interest. Participate in the community. Comments, forums, etc. Chances are that the people in that community will visit your site and may become patrons of your blog/site and may even spread the word.

5. Conventions are a good place to find bloggers like you. I made many connections at Dragon*Con with other bloggers. Don't be afraid to pimp your site.

These are just a few ideas. Some of this I found on my own, but most of it I hear as advice given by Leo Laporte of TWIT.

Anyone else have ideas?

Good info.

Lenny I posted a question in your thread...

Matter of fact, PM me your site:angry:...

:D

I'm not a hater, I've got your back 100...

The only reason I've considered doing this is because you threw up that thread saying you were going ALL IN...

THAT exposed me to what I had missed out on before (D Town's threads)...

Now, MzKitty is saying she's months away from "retiring" (not literally, but being able to live 100% on earnings)...

Since you've just begun, I'm very interested at where you are now with yours... that's all.

No Haterade here bruh, matter of fact, I commend you...

100% support...

My sit[e has been having some issues, my ads aren't showing up. I have the guy who did my layout taking a look at it. Its frustrating while I wait though.

I'm also thinking of moving from godaddy to siteground, since I've heard great things about them.

I'm def. gonna bookmark Dtown's thread..

It takes money to make money... you should consider paying someone to do your site. .. less headache! :) The dude who is doing my new design charged $300. The chick who did my current site charged $100. I am sure you can find others in that range... its not a lot of money to spend.

1. SEO is important, but much of what you find is snake oil. To make your site come up in search especially google search has a lot more to do with other blogs/websites linking to your content. Good content will get people to link to you.

SEO- It generally takes a year for Google to take you seriously. You have to consistently post for a year (unless you have a niche site that little to no people are posting about) During this year you are earning credibility.

Tip: Make sure the people on your blogroll pertain to your site.

Tip: Each site has 3 keywords... decide what your 3 keywords are and post around those as much as possible.
The more you stick tot hose 3 Keywords, the higher you will rank.

2. Post often. Once someone comes to your site after finding something interesting. They will come back, especially if they register, but if your content gets stale, they will stop coming.

Tip: If you have a Twitter account and you notice the trending topics on the right side. The trending topics are what everyone is buzzing about. Pick one and write a post around it that directly relates to your keywords.

example: Lets say you ran a parenting website and you see that Angelina Jolie is on the trending topic... write a post about how Angelina has so many kids and you wonder how she is able to balance the paparazzi and raise her kids.

3. If you own your domain name, go ahead and register it for more than a year. Registration sites will offer you 1 year or multi year registration options. Go ahead and do a multiyear. Google does pay attention to this.

my 2 cents: Yup, the above is true. They take people more serious who can show they are in this for the long haul.

4. Visit blogs and websites that share your interest. Participate in the community. Comments, forums, etc. Chances are that the people in that community will visit your site and may become patrons of your blog/site and may even spread the word.

my 2 cents: Yup, the above is true. The more you comment on other peoples sites, the more they click on your name that directly links to your site. Especially if you say something off the wall. Also, make sure you have a link to your site in your signature. Create sigs that stand out that fwd people to your site.

5. Conventions are a good place to find bloggers like you. I made many connections at Dragon*Con with other bloggers. Don't be afraid to pimp your site.

my 2 cents: Yup, the above is true. Also, create business cards for your site. Add your google voice number on the cards. Give yourself a title. When you show that you are professional and take your site serious, the more people refer other people toy our site.

See above for my responses...
