AMC/Regal/Cineworld Theaters may go bankrupt (CINEWORLD GOES DOWN!)

AMC locations across the U.S. are renting out entire theaters for moviegoers starting at $99.

Groups up to 20 people can enjoy a private user experience. The price for rental goes upwards to $349 depending on the movie chosen by the group and the theater location, AMC states on their website.

Currently, 34 films are being offered in rental packages. Older releases start at $99 plus tax while newer movies begin at $149

:roflmao2: :roflmao:Well anything to avoid bankruptcy but with the limited number of new movies out I don’t see it working to well. You still have to pay for snacks as a add on.

You know...
This isn't such a bad idea if you have a group of movie-going peeps to hang with.

Personally...
I always thought about theaters doing this for personal private screenings.
And it has been infrequently done over the decades.

Shit.
I would love to have an IMAX or Dolby Cinema theater for myself and friends.
But fuckin' Cuomo still doesn't see theaters as "Essential"

I'm not a snacker when I go to the movies anyway.
I save that money for after-movie eating.
Or wait until I get home.

And before you know it,
That number of movies is not going to be 'limited".
There's going to be so many movies with backed up schedules,
That there's barely going to be any way to keep them around for longer than two weeks.

Location for this is going to be the problem we went from almost 10 AMC theaters to 3 here two are great theaters but it's a ride to get to them the other one has had rats and bed bug issues and besides the sounds system upgrade nothing else has been done to it since the 90's. If this was iMax I wouldn't mind but they shut all of them down till further notice.

A few folks I know have been crossing the river over to New Jersey to go see movies.
I ain't going that far.
Though I was really getting desperate to see "TENET",
I decided unless it's on IMAX, I'm good.

that is going to fail. groups of people getting together to watch what? they desperate at this point.

As I've said in another thread related to this,
If there are going to be any theaters left,
Those theaters are going to be large/Special Format like IMAX, Dolby Cinema, RPX, etc.
And the blockbusters we all like to see will be released as "Events" for those theaters only.
I only go to see films in those formats.
Can't understand why this is so hard for theater chains and studios to understand.

Theater Chains shot themselves in the foot decades ago with the multi-plex model.
Eschewing their larger auditoriums for smaller ones to get more audiences in,
Increasing their profit margin.
Only to have technology make that a shorter term gain.

I feel Patty Jenkins on her diatribe.
I want to see "WONDER WOMAN 1984" among other blockbusters on the largest screens possible.
But HomeGirl's misguided.

Maybe Theater Chains and Studios need to build movie theater palaces again.
With the latest theater advances possible.

Decades ago SFX Master Douglas Trumbull tried to get movie chains and studios to considered various presentation tech he created like "ShowScan".
As have Peter Jackson and Ang Lee later with HFR and 3D
A lot of theaters balked at the expense of newer projection equipment then.
And with the later two guys decades later.

Could 4DX be what the people will clamor for?

that is going to fail. groups of people getting together to watch what? they desperate at this point.

I'm actually considering this.

If you got kids or high risk people in your circle and you just want them to have that REAL movie theatre experience but it the best way possible?

This is a legit option.

Not long term

but a long overdue temporary Stop gap

I told my buddy a movie theater has to be the nastiest place going right now. Recirculated air, them chairs that are never cleaned, folks coughing and shit. Nope do people really think high school aged kids are really cleaning them joints? ASAP a movie is out more bodies are rushed in. If AMC or whoever was smart they would install outdoor screens and turn the parking lot into a drive through movie.

Too be fair my nephews worked in a theatre and DOES depend on the hood its located at.

Overall its filthy but them kids worked they asses off..

Its the damn adults who nasty as f*ck i had to pick them up and see what they had to deal with.

But the "high end" theatres especially Alamo etc? Were clean seriously

It CAN BE DONE.

After reading some of the comments in this thread AMC need to seriously consider hiring some of y'all.

Nah.
4DX had early success in its beginnings.
But from what I heard from folks that worked at some of the REGAL theaters here in NYC,
It's become somewhat of a bust.
The tickets were way too high for what it was.
And the screens are way too small.

I saw "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS" in 4DX (after seeing it in IMAX, and Dolby Cinema) last year,
At the Times Square REGAL.
I wasn't impressed.
Felt it was too much of a gimmick for its $30 price.
And Yeah...
That screen was WAY TOO DAMNED SMALL!!!

Shit practically reminded me of The New York Experience exhibition back in the 70s.
Older New York Peeps know the deal with my latter sentence.

damn...

I could NEVER get tickets back in the day it was always sold out

but then again this was the height of black Panther.

I hear you though

4DX is REALLY dependent on the movie and how it translates

but there was ANOTHER format I cannot remember now that had like 3 screens that surrounded you and directors shot EXTRA scenes with a special camera so that experience was UNIQUE to the regular movie

you know what I'm talking about?

I honestly had to google that one.
Because I couldn't remember it either.
It was ScreenX
The REGAL in Union Square had it.
But I HATE that REGAL theater.
The screens are too small.
And the auditoriums are badly designed.
So I wasn't going to pay a premium to experience it.

All these movie chains owe disney marvel PARTICULARLY Black Panther an eternal debt

That movie SAVED that industry

RIP Chadwick

They never really appreciated us

They should have embraced independent films more, more affordable rereleases etc

Yo am the ONLY one who remembers the $3 movie a couple blocks off times square way back?

And part of The Industry (along with some of the public) still refuses to give "BLACK PANTHER" any credit.
Kevin Feige believed in it
So you know everyone else involved wasn't going to slack.
Feige wasn't having it.
But at the same time, he left Coogler, Bosemann, and Co. alone.
Because He knew.

Hell.
My Girlfriend watched "BLACK PANTHER" for the first time at my crib a few weeks ago.
She had helped me put up my LG 65" last year.
And wanted to check out my new Nakamichi soundbar and Sony 4K player upgrades I did a few months ago.
She absolutely LOVED it.

Dude,
I started hanging out at those Times Square theaters in the late 70s throughout the 80s.
I won't be home until 4am some days.
Because I'd be going to them after concerts at various spots in Greenwich Village.
I saw a lot of WILD shit in those theaters back then that would turn peep's heads.
LOL

There opening here in NY,yeeeaaaah!,you have to wear a mask and it's only going to be you 10 other people and maybe a worker or two, spaced out in the whole place unless you want to be a baller and rent out that joint for $$$$ to watch "Who framed Roger Rabbit".

I believe I saw it on instagram months ago where the Harlem Rapper Unkasa rented out the joint for a movie and they were serving alcohol in that joint, that has to be a NYC thing cause it wouldn't work here or I would be mimicking it my damn self.....

Nyc is not on the list of being able to rent this according to the article

The other thing all the good movies have been pushed back till next year who in the right mind would pay for a older movie that’s already on VOD or Blu Ray.
There’s the thread dedicated to this announcement where I said you could actually use this situation to host seminars, job fairs, meetings, promote products to possible investors or partnerships, if you are an upcoming filmmaker you could use This outlet to showcase a short film to push it to possible producers or movie distributors..you able to cop a mic for an extra $100 so that means you can host.. as far as a person in biz this is a perfect opportunity to have a nice looking presentation to promote to a certain demographic of people for the cheap.. just imagine you had a product like some kind of bottled lemonade, you can have a representative from Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco, bjs, Walmart, target, Amazon, etc in one room aka the theatre showing a commercial about your product and than explaining why your product should Be sold in their stores or on their online store.. less than $500 to have you present your product very professionally.. that’s who would or should be interested in this situation

Apple TV may soon be the place to watch a long-delayed James Bond film, should the parent company decide to skip the film's theatrical release.

Apple is said to be bidding on an upcoming James Bond flick, titled "No Time to Die," hoping to bring the movie exclusively to Apple TV+.

Earlier this year, Apple purchased Tom Hanks' World War II film, "Greyhound," when it was apparent that a theater release would be impossible.

The Bond franchise is owned by MGM, and according to Binged, the company likely feels pressure to sell the film to the highest bidder. Many would-be theater releases have taken to releasing films on streaming platforms in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to Apple, Netflix is said to be in the running to purchase the upcoming Bond film.

Spot on. They need to offer starving indies rights to air their B list movies for a change. For Free. Mandatory snacks or beverages only.

Plenty of ethnic movies and niche films can be displayed for once. The contract movies ain't gonna save ya.

Apple TV, Netflix, Disney +, Hulu, Amazon Video, HBO Max - which one will survive?

They are not ALL going to be viable soon.

They are buying movies at a loss. Movie companies are selling at a loss.

There will not be enough money for quality action movies in the future.

When I say quality, I mean big budget action movies because those movies bring in the dollars.

Independent movies traditionally do not make money. They are not bread and butter.

Amazon and Apple make a shitload of money outside movies. That shit should scare everyone from theaters to Netflix. It's about ecosystems with them. Fuck else does Netflix offer? Amazon and Apple can get the streaming money that Netflix gets on top of all the other money they get. The way these corporations work, slick bastards like Amazon/Apple might do big productions and write off the loss while growing their ecosystems and profiting other ways. How could netflix compete?

Netflix has the advantage of being the first mover in the industry. They are also branded within the culture. For example, people will say, give me a Coke, but not necessarily wanting a Coke, but wanting some other soda. Netflix has this advantage. Their problem lies within subscribers and continuing to add new subscribers monthly. Unless they start bringing in some of the blockbuster releases, I am not sure they can maintain post-pandemic.

i think they all survive
but of the choices i think Apple TV is most likely to get out of making original content business and even that is a stretch

They all will survive they have to much content, movies they have made and TV series to fall off anytime soon and during the start of the virus and the closing down of theaters they have become the big winners in all this. Netflix and Prime have started taking on overseas and Independent movies. Big budget doesn’t always mean blockbuster movies major of the money spent is for actors and stunt people and over used special effects.

Ice Cube, the legendary rapper-turned-actor, has found his true calling; campaigning for the release of The Schumacher Cut. The former member of N.W.A has shared a short video calling for AT&T and HBO Max to release Joel Schumacher's director's cut of Batman Forever, something that was revealed to exist earlier this year.

The video is in aid of the #ReleaseTheSchumacherCut social media campaign, and, as is sometimes the case with these fan endeavours, Ice Cube was reportedly paid for putting his voice to the cause. Still, sometimes your personal and financial desires collide, and having someone of Ice Cube's profile calling for The Schumacher Cut is sure to provide the campaign with a lot of publicity.

1) Who is gonna pay a 250-450 a month streaming bill to keep them all profitable?
2) People are gonna wake up and stop paying for all these services
3) I do not get your point about big budget movies. Studios make a big budget movie in order for it to be a blockbuster in movie theatres. They want people to pay $10-20 dollars to see it multiple times. You do see that if a blockbuster movie is released on streaming for $30 dollars then the studio lost the money they intended? Netflix is not paying 1 billions for that movie. Therefore studios will not make those kinds of movies because they do not make enough money. So your new action movies are gonna be Steven Segal or some Indian dude jumping over a rock.
