AMC/Regal/Cineworld Theaters may go bankrupt (CINEWORLD GOES DOWN!)

I would love to know how many people engage in so called piracy/illegal streaming in the U.S. alone.

I have had Tenet at home for at least a month now. Haven't even gotten around to watching it. Hell, it was probably in the BGOL movies section before that.

A simple YouTube search will garner step by step instructions on how to download apps like Cinema HD.

Every time I sit down at home with some popcorn and Pure Leaf Raspberry Tea I marvel at how this hasn't hit the mainstream.

People are still out there using Redbox. There's so much theater money yet to be made because people are just resistant to change.

i need at least a 1080p, 5.1 rip minimum.

i prefer a 4k dolby atmos rip.

those are not available yet.

How can a movie like Avengers Endgame make 1 billion dollars today?

Please explain the logistics.

theaters are just a venue for showing movies. the movie industry is not shut down. the theater industry is shut down.

and the sooner that movie studios understand that they are going to have to change how they sell and show films the better.

Right. If theaters fail, movies will fail.
There will not be enough money to make a quality movie.
CGI jobs will be poor quality and all outsourced to India or Bangladesh.

I just want to know all these VOD movies dudes are buying up that is making it profitable for them :dunno:

Dudes aren't going to pay, they're going to download a clear copy for free

but I guess movie studios aren't supposed to realize this :hmm:

'Wonder Woman' director warns movie-going could become extinct

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Patty Jenkins' new "Wonder Woman" movie has been delayed three times during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the director is sounding the alarm that movie-going itself is under real threat.

Jenkins is among dozens of top Hollywood directors appealing to the U.S. government to provide a financial lifeline to cinemas. Without it, she warned, the century-old tradition of going to the movies could disappear from American culture.

"If we shut this down, this will not be a reversible process," she said in an interview from her home in Los Angeles. "We could lose movie theater-going forever."

Jenkins said widespread closures would lead Hollywood studios to stop investing in films for theaters, and turn to streaming instead.

"It could be the kind of thing that happened to the music industry," she said, "where you could crumble the entire industry by making it something that can't be profitable."

Expensive action movies like "Wonder Woman" would be much less common on streaming, she said, and audiences would miss out on the experience of watching on a big screen in a large group.

"I don't think any of us want to live in a world where the only option is to take your kids to watch a movie in your own living room," she said, "and not have a place to go for a date."

Some of this year's major Hollywood films, including Walt Disney Co's "Mulan," skipped cinemas and went straight to streaming. Jenkins said that option is not under consideration for her sequel, "Wonder Woman 1984." Her 2017 "Wonder Woman" film took in $822 million at box offices worldwide.

The follow-up starring Gal Gadot as the lasso-wielding warrior is now scheduled for release by AT&T Inc's Warner Bros on Christmas Day in December. It had originally been set for June.

Jenkins said she was watching the progress of the pandemic and hoping that Wonder Woman can lead a return to cinemas that gives people a welcome escape from reality.

"I really hope that we are able to be one of the very first ones to come back and bring that into everyone's life," she said.

Cinemas don't need to be safe as well.
Even with a lifeline, I do not know how that solves the issue with safety.

:roflmao: This bitch here. It's 2020. We past Netflix and Chill for dates. In fact, if I were out there like that, I'm LOVING the fact that I could do dates for movies streaming so the pussy right there in the living room.

Kids don't give a fuck about the theater. Sit still. Be quiet. Bathroom is a mile away with no pause. FOH. Kids can jump around and play with their dolls/action figures from the movie while watching it.

Delusional ass dinos. She wants people to escape reality because she already has.

If the music industry managed to overcome piracy and streaming, the movies will do it no fucking problem. They just scared right now and need someone like the ghost of Steve Jobs to get in their ears. Embrace the technology. Americans have shown over and over that they pay over piracy.

Like I said b4 big biz looks at consumers like they are morons and only exist for the biz to benefit off of.. they don’t even look at consumers as living things just dollar signs... they don’t even care about making great products.. as I said b4 they put more energy into selling the product than actually make a product great.. don’t believe me..how many trailers have you seen that look great but the movie is garbage or forgettable? It’s because they put more energy trying to convince you to pay than actually making something that was worth your money..Hollywood been doing this since 2000... more trash has came out in the past 2 decades than ever b4 but they make great trailers making it seem otherwise

Spot on. Consumers are math to big business. Right now, studios just trying to make the math work. Any fucking time there is a paradigm shift in business we get what we are getting now with movies. Some dinos can't grasp a world without theaters being number 1. These the types who are millionaires but have grandchildren who work technology better than them. It's going to take an open mind to make the math work.

As I've said in another thread related to this,
If there are going to be any theaters left,
Those theaters are going to be large/Special Format like IMAX, Dolby Cinema, RPX, etc.
And the blockbusters we all like to see will be released as "Events" for those theaters only.
I only go to see films in those formats.
Can't understand why this is so hard for theater chains and studios to understand.

Theater Chains shot themselves in the foot decades ago with the multi-plex model.
Eschewing their larger auditoriums for smaller ones to get more audiences in,
Increasing their profit margin.
Only to have technology make that a shorter term gain.

I feel Patty Jenkins on her diatribe.
I want to see "WONDER WOMAN 1984" among other blockbusters on the largest screens possible.
But HomeGirl's misguided.

Maybe Theater Chains and Studios need to build movie theater palaces again.
With the latest theater advances possible.

Decades ago SFX Master Douglas Trumbull tried to get movie chains and studios to considered various presentation tech he created like "ShowScan".
As have Peter Jackson and Ang Lee later with HFR and 3D
A lot of theaters balked at the expense of newer projection equipment then.
And with the later two guys decades later.

Shitty year for her ex-boyfriend from years back too, Bryan Callen. Stand-up comedian, the gym teacher on The Goldbergs & Schooled, former co-host of the popular Fighter and the Kid podcast, and one of Rogan's best friends.

Talent agency let him go, divorced, dropped from the shows, and no longer co-hosting the podcast. Has some other side hustle shitty podcast(s) now with comic Sam Tripoli.

Oh yeah ... him and his dumbass friend / co-host from TFATK (former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub) both downplayed COVID for ages. Did some stand-up touring in Texas earlier this year. They both got it.

Good point about "event" experiences.

A family member said years back - "I don't understand people wanting to see shitty comedies or rom-coms on the big screen. Not the big moneymaker ones. The regular ones that are a simple DVD rental or download. Why waste your money? See something that warrants the big screen experience!"

Hell ... to this day I still remember that night in July 2008. Won tickets to the advance screening of Pineapple Express. Took my brother to that one downtown. Place was packed. Lots of laughs. Had called my cousin earlier that week to get together with us to celebrate a birthday. He wanted to see The Dark Knight too. It was sold-out everywhere. Had to buy your tickets online. Met up with him for the 10pm showing about 15 - 20 mins away at another venue. Got there and the line for the IMAX screening was wrapped around the building out into the parking lot. Even though we got shitty seats (too close for IMAX) ... it was great all the same. It was one of the movie events of the year. Everyone loved that shit. People clapping afterward ... that's the movie experience! Got out of there by 12:30 - 12:45am and had to be at work by 7am, haha.

What does a movie theatre have to do with the content of the movie being shown?

This thread is about movie theaters closing. Theaters play movies. They don't make the movie.

What movies are trash? Just because one person doesn't like it doesn't mean another person will.

Most "good movies" have the lowest box office turn out.

Only reason for me to go to a movie theater is to see a big fight like Canelo vs. Charlo, or Fury Wilder 3, and of course wouldn't do that now due to COVID. Any movie I would rather watch at home using Cinema HD.

Damn, the gym teacher from The Goldbergs, one of my favorite shows.
So he's off the show now? He's a major character on the show.
Guess they gonna have to bring back Goldberg the wrestler to take his spot on the show.
Fucked up, if the accusations are true though.

Yes. Also, his close friend Chris D’Elia has been laying low from separate accusations too. See Google, Reddit, or TMZ.

It's not about the movies. It's about the delivery system. Whether people will view the content at the theater or at home in a COVID world. Dinos trying are to not let go of the theaters.

Folks insisting that we won't get big budget movies. That's the content argument. I don't believe that. A lot of ways they can cut costs on production and people going to want work.

You won't get big budget movies.
You will see the quality decline.
Weather is it acting or actual effects and settings.

Sure most movies you can make in 1 week. You can get a Bronx Tale. Low budget movie. But excellent actings and story.

But you aren't gonna make a Marvel movie in 1 week.

It's not about the movies. It's about the delivery system. Whether people will view the content at the theater or at home in a COVID world. Dinos trying are to not let go of the theaters.

Speaking of 100 million, Amazon just bought Coming to America 2 for 120 million. Not surprising that a company run by Bezos sees opportunity where the dinos don't. Amazon ain't even charging to drop it on Prime.

Amazon is investing in cornering the market on data. Debo has entered the building. Fucked up when movies can be a side hustle to them.

The universe ain't playing nice with the dinos.

For some reason the whole collapse of the theater industry reminds me of Bane's misdirection speech: "This great city, it will...endure".

Life will go on. Content creators will find ways to drive profit and market share.

Years ago while working at the Ritz Carlton Atlanta, I met a young brother who was a guest. We got to talking and he mentioned he owned an entertainment company. He said something that always stuck with me..."There will always be money in entertainment because people live for the weekend...after a hard week of work they just want to be entertained rather than put out more effort improving themselves".
