2026 Chicago Bears Season Thread

Jaylon Johnson has 1 more year on the contract and his salary goes down next year. So there may be a very slight chance of his return. The Deion Sanders mention was perfect in regards to tackling. Deion didn't give up catches so he didn't have to worry about it too much. Jaylon can't get that part of the equation right at all any more in giving up these catches and failing to get to the ball otherwise.
Hell the announcers were saying that Jaylon got beat by a double move on that play where he got called for a hold. When I saw the replay I was wondering where was the move cause Chism just went right by him

That video in the film room should be rough, because of how obvious it was

Tariq and Muhammad out here making good plays and our vet looking bad

That open field tackle and effort Bush made was what Jaylon was supposed to be doing. Why are you making career decisions against a fucking QB and you already got your bag.

Tariq and Muhammad still have dollars to get and accolades to add their names to. JJ has gotten both. And as a vet, he should be the alpha setting the standard.

But the more I thought about it this morning, and took a look at a bit of the all 22, I saw a dude who seems like he just CAN’T do what he used to do. There were a few plays where it seemed like he was trying to hustle across the field to impact the play, but he just couldn’t get into the next gear physically. There’s no excuse for the tackling, or lack thereof, at least make it look like you’re trying, but he legit seems like he just can’t run. Add that to being paid enough already where you think he should be set, and maybe it’s just not there anymore, physical and mentally? Dude has kids, girls at that. I’m slight cape’ing but seeing these dudes mental health struggles after this game is over, if he’s truly cooked, I hope that he either figures it out and walks away, or the teams does it for him. He was at his best, sadly, under some dogshit coaching.

Holy Shit!!!!!! Holy Shit!!!! Holy Shit!!!! Way to go Ryan Poles!!!! Two firsts and a fourth is obviously a lot. But this is worth it. We've got the best interior game wrecker in the sport!!!! Our defensive line all of a sudden is a strong point. Chances to win the whole thing rarely come along. It's here for us now. We can win the whole bag now!!!! Fuck those draft picks. Let's win a chip. BEAR THE FUCK DOWN!!!!!!!
:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

Two first?

He's 29, but did we need to give that much up?
Two firsts is a big price but this is not the time to fuck around waiting for picks to pan out. If Ben continues with his current level of success, those will be lower first round picks anyway. The defense needs help and Caleb will not be cheap for much longer. The championship window opened last year and the NFC is wide open this year.

I hate giving up that much capital, but after the 1st quarter of the NE game last week, our interior was get ho’ed by NE’s 2nd and 3rd string OL. Something had to be done and this is something.

Moving on from Sweat will hopefully ensure Poles can hit a splash or two in free agency too.

I usually hate giving up draft capital, but this is justified. We just got the best interior lineman this team has had since Dan freakin' Hampton. When you've got a stone cold killer at the peak of his power giving you a superior inside rush, all of a sudden, everybody on your defense is much better.

Ryan did what I was pleading for Chris Getz to do for the White Sox last month. He had one of the deepest and best minor league systems in the game, and plenty of available pieces to use for trade bait to get experienced blue chip pitching, but he sat on his hands, and we lost a perfect chance to get to the World Series. With a team full of kids, there's no promise that we'll get that close again. When a championship opportunity comes along, you've got to be bold enough to strike while the iron is hot. I'm glad my GM had the stones to make this move. Nobody will give a shit about those draft choices if they get a chance to watch a big victory parade coming down the Outer Drive into Grant Park.

In the words of the great Hawk Harrelson, "Don't Stop Now Boys!!!!!" A fifth round pick can still get you Khalil Mack, and why not bring back Nashon Wright who is wasting away with the Jets. He could be had for next to nothing. And why not dream even bigger and hope that Coby Bryant can make a return to the lineup for the postseason. Time to go to war!!!

I was thinking the same, I wouldn't mind some help at DB

I told anyone who would listen that the Bears were running the same playbook on Indiana that they did back in the late 90s/early 2000s when they wanted a new stadium (which ended up with Solider Field being gutted and rebuilt). 25+ years, same bait, same hook, same result, the big fish got away.
