Vga quality is like DVD compared to HD , you should use dvi if your computer has that

Computer with HDMI cable. I been doing this since 2002 with my old crt. I prefer to download instead of stream but people I hook up I turn them on to streaming. I guess in a way im "old fashioned" like that.

Same here...i dont think ive ever streamed a movie. Just PPV events. I like turning people onto firesticks and kodi etc though. Shit nowadays u get the whole movie in under 2 minutes anyway

So true lol. I dont mind the wait on downloading cuz it dont take long. Plus I have enough stuff downloaded to watch while whatever I got going finishes. Or I just play a game or something in the mean time. I like the convenience of using a pc because I play alot of old games on emulators or im always finding stuff to watch. I got my mom an android tv box with kodi installed and she loves it. I just told my uncle about it today so he'll probably want one. And a female friend wants one too when she moves

If you a downloader look in to plex , here's how it works

Let's say you have a 1tb drive full of movies and tv shows

You install plex server on your computer , the program runs in the background
Plex lets you watch your movies on the phone/tablet/tv
You can get plex on anything from roku to chromecast

Now tell your family brother/sister whatever to create a free plex account , they send you the username , you add them as friends
Now they can stream your movies on your HARDRIVE from anywhere different states , don't matter

All this is free

Plex automatically adds cover & movie info and plays any file format
You add a movie to the plex folder and it appears on the plex app right away

built a media center pc for streaming...firesticks n such don't get enough power and/or processing capability to always buffer streams properly

Roku 3.

I download a lot of my content from torrent sites and the USB flash drive port is the most stable way to play it. Especially since I live on an island with spotty internet service.

I forgot about plex. And you make a very valid point. Most of the stuff I watch I delete when I finish. Unless I really liked it. Ironicially alot of the stuff I do got saved most of the folks I know dont care for lol. But I still might start using it. But I keep trying to get everybody I know to stop using me as a "crutch" and learn how to do this stuff on they own. They act like I just automatically know this stuff and I dont. Half the time im just googling the info if I dont already know how to do it but they just think im some computer guru lol.

This. I just download whatever I want still. Better quality, less hassle. I have a generic Android box with Kodi for free ppv and shit. But any movie or show I want that I don't already get on cable, I just dl it.

Its funny. I have a smart tv and I dont even use any of its features lol. It has usb ports on it too so I can hook up an external hard drive or flash drive and play content that way but I never tested it out. And with me having my computer hooked up thru my surround sound im always looking for the best copies of anything I watch preferable with 5.1 sound.

Chromecast - Showbox - Webvideo Caster
Now: Fire TV stick w/add-ons or from showbox to webvideo caster.
I'm going to mess with Plex like BenQ suggested.

What I do I download the new crappy movies , keep them in a separate folder
After a few months after everybody seen them or don't care I delete them and start over

Movies like the revenant ,hateful eight I keep
For example today I downloaded the first 3 movies on this page
http://sceper.ws/category/movies
I put them on the temp folder , after a few months I delete everything in the folder

I have 150mb download speed so it only takes a few minutes to download from torrents
People want to see new movies no matter how bad they are

i gave up trying to teach people how to download movies , this is much easier
They just buy a roku , open the plex app , look at the nice movie covers and hit play

my upload speed is 12mb so 4 people streaming at the same time at 2mb 720p is fine without any buffering

You just have to tell them not to share their account with anyone or you can remove them

Dedicated laptop running Kodi on Linux to HDMI. I heavily download and stream, mostly downloads are movies and music. About to build a freenas box and use that for my downloads. Might switch to beeline or firestick if that goes well.

Got one of these and it's wonky as hell. If I stream something from my computer and then try to stream something else shit just quits. pos far as I'm concerned I'm just basically using the 2 USB ports.

Still using my WDLive HD.

Glad I kept mine even though it has to be reset every now and then.

I'm going to try that PLEX joint tho.
