Magic to put Channing Frye on the trade block?

CQVgcLOWIAIix9y.jpg

He signed a four-year contract in 2014
According to Zach Lowe of Grantland, the Orland Magic are avalaible to trade Channing Frye for a very little in return, though Magic officials deny it. Frye signed a four-year contract, worth 32 mln, with the Magic back in 2014 but with a frontcourt pretty filled with Tobias Harris, Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon he may find very little space.

Frye shot 39.9% from the three-point line last season.

This year? The West is a slugfest every year.

The only thing different is Portland is getting replaced, probably by Phoenix or the Lakers.

The day the East starts looking good, that's when I'll be surprised.

How Cavs Players And Organization Are Moving On From Tristan Thompson

Thompson-Cavs-Remove-Image-Cover.jpg

Tom Szczerbowski | USA TODAY Sports

After Thompson did not accept his one year qualifying offer and also decided not to show up for the team’s training camp or practices, don’t expect anyone within the Cavs organization to stop and think about him at times. Right now, Thompson is not a part of the team, and everybody knows that.

“Right now, my thoughts are just about the guys that are here and how hard and how well they are working and no specific expectation otherwise,” said Cavs coach David Blatt about Thompson’s absence from the team’s practices. “Just happy to see our guys working as well as they are.”

Blatt didn’t even stay up last night to see whether Thompson accepted the team’s $6.8 million qualifying offer.

“I was liking the dream I was having,” Blatt said smiles . “Usually I don’t go to sleep that early, but last night I was tired. We’re just back at it. We’ve got to focus on the now and here and that’s what we’re doing.”

While the team has begun to focus on themselves and who’s at practice, the Cavs organization has started taking the necessary steps towards removing Thompson’s images and gear from the Quicken Loans Arena. They could very well put those up the next day if Thompson re-signs then, but as of right now, Thompson is not a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers and isn’t attending any practices or team functions. Chris Haynes took a photo of what one of the first steps was.

Furthermore, the Cavs have also stopped selling all Tristan Thompson merchandise at their team store store, according to a screenshot by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

Re: 2015-2016 NBA Thread - Training Camp 9/29

Can somebody please try to explain to me, what can be going on in Tristians mind, because from what I understand, even if he were to sit out the entire season, he would be in the same exact situation next year due to him not for-filling his one year left in his contract..
Even if he wanted to jet the team, he really played himself by not signing the one year exempt clause, now he is really at the mercy of the team with very little options..
Help me out, am I missing something with this picture?

I think Seth should have signed with the Pelicans. Gentry would have given him more playing time. Rondo & Karl are bound the bang heads at some point. I really hope that Seth gets a shot at playing significant minutes.

LeBron James sends message in photo with Cavs holdout Tristan Thompson

12132712_812459145538446_639244673_n.jpg

"Get it done!!!! Straight up. #MissMyBrother @realtristan13"

No progress in Thompson's contract talks

LeBron James posed for a photograph with Tristan Thompson at a wedding Saturday night in Miami.

The fact that James spent time with Thompson, who is currently in a holdout situation with the Cleveland Cavaliers after missing the first four days of training camp while trying to negotiate a new contract, wasn't particularly noteworthy. They were teammates last season, share an agent in Rich Paul and several other associates from their agency, Klutch Sports, were at the event.

However, the message that James wrote along with the photo while sharing it on his Instagram account certainly was intriguing.

"Get it done!!!!" James wrote, adding the hashtag "#MissMyBrother."

After expressing optimism that Thompson would get a deal done "sooner than later" on media day Monday, James said he "probably won't address it again too much more" when asked about Thompson's contract situation on Tuesday.

James stayed true to his word at first, choosing not to offer any statement Friday after Thompson let a one-year, $6.8 million qualifying offer from the Cavs expire Thursday night.

Apparently, Saturday was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

With the qualifying offer off the table, negotiations will presumably shift to the Cavs and Thompson's representatives focusing on a multiyear agreement. Thompson's agent, Paul, recently vacated a five-year, $94 million max contract demand for his client in favor of a preferred three-year, $53 million deal, league sources said. The Cavs already have tendered a five-year, $80 million offer to Thompson, according to sources.

This is not the first time James has used Instagram as a platform to lobby for a Klutch Sports client. In September 2014, James urged the Phoenix Suns to "break bread" with Eric Bledsoe, calling him a "future All-Star in this league in no time." Less than three weeks later, the Suns and Bledsoe settled on a five-year, $70 million extension after Bledsoe initially turned down a four-year, $48 million offer.

Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist dislocates right shoulder in win

ORLANDO, Fla. -- X-rays on Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were negative but revealed a dislocation of his right shoulder after Kidd-Gilchrist left Saturday night's 106-100 exhibition win over the Orlando Magic, the team announced.

i

Kidd-Gilchrist was curling off a screen late in the second quarter when he tumbled to the ground after absorbing a foul by a Magic player. He stayed down for several seconds and got up holding his shoulder. He was immediately helped to the locker room.

Kidd-Gilchrist was taken from the arena to a hospital to undergo X-rays and other tests.

A member of Kentucky's 2011-12 national championship team, Kidd-Gilchrist will remain in Orlando and will not play in Sunday's game against the Miami Heat. He is scheduled to undergo further evaluation by the team's medical staff in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday, according to the team's Twitter account.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said the injury put a damper on an otherwise productive preseason opener for the new-look Hornets.

Prior to his injury, the fourth-year forward was 2-for-4 from the field with four points and one assist.

Gilchrist signed a four-year, $52 million extension in August. He averaged a career-high 10.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game last season, although he was limited to 55 games due to injuries.

Cavs Notes: James, Thompson, Jefferson

CQfLRGLWgAA9PLU.jpg

October 4th at 11:40am CST • By Chris Crouse
LeBron James has ended his silence regarding Tristan Thompson‘s contract situation, posting a picture of the two of them on his Instagram account with the caption, “Get it done!!!!! Straight up. #MissMyBrother.”

Thompson let the deadline pass without signing his qualifying offer earlier this week, which reduces his options to signing a long-term deal with the Cavs, signing an offer sheet from another team or continuing to sit out. However, if he does sit out the season, he will remain a restricted free agent next offseason. It was reported on Friday that Thompson and his camp prefer a three-year max contract to the five-year max they sought most of the summer, but Cleveland is uninterested in such a proposal.

Here’s more from the reigning Eastern Conference champs:

A five-year, $85MM deal would be a logical conclusion to Thompson’s stalemate with the Cavs, Tim Bontemps of The New York Post opines. Such a figure would allow Thompson to get a bigger contract than fellow restricted free agent power forward Draymond Green, who signed a five-year deal worth $82MM with Golden State this summer, while saving Cleveland a significant amount of money in luxury tax payments.
Kevin Love‘s first year as a Cavalier didn’t go as smoothly as planned, but James believes he will thrive in Cleveland this season, Joe Vardon of the Northeast Ohio Media Group writes. “I just think [Love’s] more comfortable in the situation that he’s in,” James said. “He’s got a year under his belt, he knows what he expects out of himself and what his teammates expect out of him. I expect big things from him this year with a year up under his belt.”
New addition Richard Jefferson hopes to give the Cavs 10-12 minutes each night, but the injury to Shumpert could force him to play more, Vardon writes in the same piece. The veteran is just excited to play alongside the four-time MVP. “With LeBron and his versatility … when you have that piece, kind of like the queen in chess, that can do everything, you realize that, ‘Hey if I can play the four and LeBron can go to the two, somebody else can play the three or vice versa, it makes everyone’s job a lot easier,'” Jefferson said.

Heat Notes: Rookies, Green, Stoudemire

CQemCXHXAAEXEmv.jpg

October 4th at 8:58am CST • By Chris Crouse
A pair of rookies were the talk of the team after a few days of Miami’s training camp, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald writes.

“I didn’t know a lot about [Josh Richardson],” Dwyane Wade said. “I like his poise, his ability to play the 1 and 2. He’s impressed me.” Chris Bosh was complimentary of the rookies as well. “[Both] rookies have impressed me. Justise Winslow is very smart. Josh plays under control, doesn’t make many bad decisions,”

Winslow is a lock to make the team and Richardson, who is one of 13 players out of 20 currently under contract with a fully guaranteed deal, appears to be a safe bet to make the opening night roster as well.

Here’s more out of Miami:

Goran Dragic advocated for the team to sign Gerald Green during the offseason and he is confident Miami will get productive minutes from the 29-year-old, Jason Lieser of The Palm Beach Post writes. “His ability to jump and shoot against anybody is going to be unbelievable, and on defense, he can improve a lot,” Dragic said. “He’s long and athletic and he’s gonna listen to the coaches.” Green and Dragic were teammates in Phoenix during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 campaigns before Dragic was traded to the Heat.
The Heat are happy to have Amar’e Stoudemire aboard, but many of the players didn’t expect him to sign with the team in free agency, Lieser tweets. Stoudemire didn’t base his decision in free agency on money and Miami signed him to a one-year deal worth $1.5MM.

Carmelo Anthony believes he can be a star in the NBA for another four or five years

CQb__1OWcAAKS8u.jpg

Carmelo Anthony believes he can be a star in the NBA for another “four or five years,” according to Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. That would take the 31-year-old to at least the end of the five-year, $124MM deal he signed with the Knicks in the summer of 2014. Even though Anthony is about to start his 13th NBA season and had major knee surgery in February, he insists he can remain among the league’s elite players. “The way that I play,” Anthony said, “the way that I know how to pace myself, the way I know how to pick my spots out on the basketball court, I’m not a guy who’s playing above the rim every play, so it works in my favor.”

There’s more out of New York this evening:

Sasha Vujacic has looked comfortable in his bid to return to the NBA, Begley writes in the same story. The former Laker stood out with his shooting and passing during portions of team scrimmages that were open to the media. When Knicks coach Derek Fisher was asked if Vujacic is the same player he remembers from when they were teammates in L.A. five years ago, he replied, “No, he’s better.”
Confidence won’t be an issue for Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis, Begley writes in a separate story. As training camp wrapped up today, Fisher said Porzingis is a candidate for the starting power forward spot. “I played two years professionally [in Spain],” Porzingis said. “Obviously the level is not the same as here in the NBA, but I feel confident I’ll be able to play at this level.”
Getting Robin Lopez as a teammate prompted Anthony to change his mind about the big man, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. The former Blazer is living up to his reputation for intensity at training camp after signing a four-year, $54MM deal with the Knicks in July. “I hated him as an opponent — a helluva pick-and-roll guy who set crazy screens,” Anthony said. “I used to think it was dirty, but now I think they are clean.’’

Kings Pick Up 2016/17 Option On Ben McLemore
CQaomYJWwAAz0Ex.jpg

October 3rd at 2:45pm CST • By Eddie Scarito
2:45pm: The Kings have released an official announcement confirming that they have picked up McLemore’s 2016/17 option.

2:30pm: The Kings have exercised their $4,008,882 team option on Ben McLemore‘s rookie scale deal for 2016/17, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reports (via Twitter). This will keep the 2013 No. 7 overall pick under contract through next season, which is the final one on his rookie scale pact. The team has yet to make an official announcement, but it appears that Sacramento has made the decision in advance of the November 2nd deadline. The addition of McLemore’s option will give Sacramento more than $61MM in guaranteed salary for 2016/17, which is approximately $28MM below the projected $89MM cap.

It’s not a surprise that the Kings would elect to retain the 22-year-old, who showed marked improvement during the 2014/15 season, his second in the NBA. With the trade of 2014 first-rounder Nik Stauskas to the Sixers this offfseason, and now having his option picked up, it’s apparent that the franchise views him as its shooting guard of the present, and likely the future.

McLemore made 82 appearances during the 2014/15 season for the Kings, all as a starter, averaging 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. His career numbers through two NBA campaigns are 10.5 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 1.4 APG to go along with a slash line of .409/.342/.809.
