Worked at Costco my senior year in high school. Felt like a baller making 11/hr with benefits as a part time employee pushing carts. Plus the tips (which weren't allowed), I made out pretty good. Great company indeed.

I shop with friends/family who ar too cheap to pay that $45 for the reg membership... I havent paid ffor my membership since I joined. That cash back covers it every year and gives me a free trip or two.

They treat you like a HUMAN BEING. .. employee appreciation parties, 100-200 bucks for all employees when they meet sales goals... The whole nine yards. I got a call for an interview for a position I applied for for 7 months ago. (I would've been starved to death at least 4 times by now... )

I'm not sure. As far as I know, they've always let you look around, you just couldn't purchase unless you had a membership or one of their gift cards. I was able to go in and look around, but the costco was so far away that Sam's club was better at the time. I let Sam's expire a couple of years ago after I found out how they were treating their workers and trying to influence them to vote and they just recently built a Costco near my home. I had been planning on getting costco but I was waiting for one of the coupon and cash back deals to come around since it is essentially free. The coupons they give I will use so it's a good deal. Get the executive if you plan on spending more than a few thousand per year. I have an executive and get $175 back annually, pays for the membership, and an extra few dollars back in my pocket.

Walmart doesn't force the government to give people food stamps. If workers want better wages than walmart offers, they can choose to work somewhere else, if it becomes difficult for Walmart to keep decent employees, they will raise their wages. Government forcing high wages typically just makes everything more expensive which negates the benefits of the slightly higher wage.

Walmart is a job killer. If those people could find better jobs they would. Many had better jobs before Walmart came and puts many other businesses out of business due to their lower prices and the convinence of buying many different consumer goods in one place.

Its a business model that works but it is a net negative for the communities they land in, their workers, and ultimately the country. DO some research on this and turn off fox news.

I got the executive membership. It pays for its self. Every year I get the rebate check from Costco and I use part of it to renew my membership. I haven't had to go out of pocket for the membership fee in like 10 years.

Don't sleep on the executive membership....upgrade.

What's better about Costco? Simply, it's the quality of the products they sell. The meat at Costco is top rate. So much better then you can get at a regular grocery store. It's reasonably priced too. The produce there is great. I find the produce I buy for Costco is fresher and last longer then the stuff you get from a regular store. The Kirkland brand (Costos brand) is really good quality too.

Last, the return policy at Costco is the best out there. I love My Costco membership.

In ATL - don't know if this will fully answer the question. In ATL- my girlfriend and I used to hit up Kroger because of the gas. Then we realized we could get quality food (natural, non-processed shit) from Costco. Costco is probably the best bet outside of a major farmer's market (e.g., Dekalb)... it pays off if you go ahead and plan out the trip in advance (then buy in bulk for like 1/4 of the year for kitchen supplies and a month for food).


To the OP - damn good post. I was this close to getting a sam's club card because they have slightly better deals on computers (e.g., Asus laptops for the low) but fuck it - I like how Costco is operating and will keep the membership.

I buy a lot of stuff from there but I have a family..wife and 2 kids. We buy milk, bread, eggs, coffee and fruit from Costco.

Also cause I've done the advertising for a company that is in Costco I know that all Kirkland brand products are made by companies. So for example Kirkland laundry detergent is really made by P&G the people that make Tide. Cosco's business practice is that if you want to be in their store you have to provide product at cost for them to rebrand. Its a win win for most companies so they are cool about it.

That income means they are not dependent on the product manufacturers as much as supermarkets. For example for a long time Costco and P&G had a falling out and Costco stopped carrying Pampers diapers. For any other store that would put a huge burden on them...for Costco they were like fuck you P&G. Even P&G admitted Costco was one of the few chains that could say that to them.

From a service standpoint....yeah they got it. If you have a return walk in show it to them and they'll take it back...no questions asked. Additionally, when you buy electronics Costco adds a year to the manufacturer's warranty.
